I love StarCraft, so I've decided to set some goals. And why not? From all the popular lore I half-listen to, the act of setting goals only helps you reach happiness, nirvana and fulfills all your dreams.
My first goal is to get to the A/B Ladder on ICCup, without any sort of cheating or massive amounts of fluke wins.
There's a few reasons I want this: Because it'd be soooooooo cool and I'd be all the rage at parties. Next, I've never really been challenged with something like this before. Sure, I've played in Ze Chess Club when I was 12, but since then, I've been so super-lazy intellectually, that now I feel like my concentration may not allow me to be good at StarCraft, and I want to prove myself wrong about that. I want to know for sure that I can still set a goal, and apply the kind of critical thinking and discipline to get that goal.
My second goal is to be a total nerd and buy a cute item of StarCraft clothing.
Like a t-shirt maybe? Yeah.
My third goal is to win a StarCraft tournament.
I want to win a big tournament with some awesome people in it. Sure, I could go get a 40% B- rank on ICCup, but that's not enough win consistency to win a tournament, so if someone hosts a tournament, and it has some good people and I win it, I will be very very happy, and will celebrate ala Firebathero.
My current rank on ICCup is D+

Good luck.
With enough effort I imagine d+ to b- is possible in 2-3 months for any naturally smart person.

2-3 months to b- ? you mean for a person who is totally dedicated to bw and doesn't have anything outside it, training like a korean for 12h+ a day... still hard to believe. well but i have never tried so...

i don't mean to be discouraging but setting unreasonable goals is simply ineffective. going from d+ to b- is a very difficult and long process, and i don't think you understand how much time/effort that would consume. start out with something more tangible, such as reaching a solid C rank within a month or two of dedicated training.
|
I don't think these goals are unreasonable if he's dedicated. I improved hugely over a period of 3 months by just practicing properly.
You go for it man
|
I can help you get to B- if you want to!

Even if you have Flash-like skills, it will probably take longer than that.
..But best of luck to the OP.

i think it's unreasonable because the op would have put in absurd amount of time. how much did you improve? aiming to go from D+ to B- without any time frame or specific training plan doesn't even sound like a "goal."
"i am gonna go from d+ to b- because it's cool and it's a challenge" won't get you far.

I don't see it happening at all UNLESS she get's tutored by very good players like shauni offered.
If shauni does decide to tutor her, I think I'd even like to watch the stream now and then, just to notice the improvement.
p.s. I don't think many girls are capable of getting to B ranks in the first place, so that might be one more thing to motivate you.
|
OneOther, I'm so with you on this one!
It's good to have ambition, but I think it's psychologically easier when setting more realistic and reachable aims and then conquer them one after the other and feel success on the way. not going for something over ambitious and feeling helpless...
|
If you want to get to B- within 3-5 months, you need either massive amount of effort and talent, or pay for a sc teacher. Even in the case that you pay for a teacher, you'll still need a lot of effort but then it's actually realistic. However, paying a sc teacher would mean that you spent 100-150 dollars to get to B-. Nothing wrong with that, but its something to think about. However, with talent and a decent amount of effort getting B- in 6 months is quite possible even without a teacher. Decent amount of effort meaning that you use maybe 3-4 hours per day on average efficiently. I dont mean to bring your goals or thoughts down, but it's important that you realize what you're going for.

I agree with Oneother too, he's always the voice of reason, still best of luck with your goals!
PS. Ray why are you so full of awesome ?

You might want to start with a closer goal and take it step by step.

Are you the Nina that uses pink font in the livestream chat when Day 9 told everyone to not use pink font unless it's a emergency?

Are you kidding? Now she has to do it just to prove you wrong and defend the honor of all female nerds everywhere.
Guys, women are smarter, they are more dedicated, they have more patience and they look hot in those progamer outfits. You are just asking for trouble when you say such things.
OK, my wife just walked away....

Nina is for real I've seen her on ICCUP. She is not a troll and she likes mangoes.

Try to set your goals lower, as everyone else has already suggested. And try to keep your motivation high, you're going to need it >____>

Also if you're already good at another RTS, getting good at SC should go faster.

The best way to do this is to just be a normal poster. Posts here and there, maybe a few "[H]stopping bla bla" posts. Generally not contributing much, and doesn't get aknowledged that much. Like me for example!
Then you enter all competitions for pro gaming uniforms. With alot of patience you will eventually get your hans on the shiny KHAN uniform (Or something else). Then you make a blog, with a photo of you in your new uniform. You also need an minskirt. Preferably with a good pair of long legs.
Now everyone will be O_O - OMG, Shes a girl?! Thats HAWT!. (The girls of the forum too!)
There, now you've gained alot of E-reputation.

At some time everyone had only 9 posts on TL.
If she is the same nina I saw on ICCUP she was playing a lot. Even if she does not remember me I remember her. How many women are playing on ICCUP? She was nice if it was her though. And she did type "I like mangos" whether she remembers it or not. (If it was her.)
I hope she reaches her goals too.

It's nothing personal against you dude, it's just that with so few posts, the possibility of you being someone's trolling alt account can't be ruled out.
