I know it sounds really ridiculous but I'm as happy as I can be now, I think. I'm doing what I like, I have a great job with steady income, I have a great boyfriend, my own apartment, and no longer under the confinement of my parents. I am perfectly content with where I am in life. And to think that it was the depressive boy that made me think of this question... who makes me the happiest I have been in year.

There's this myth that I think describes the attitude of a happy person. In China there was this great flood, it kept moving inland and all the crops were being destroyed, people losing their homes. The emperor's advisor Gun told the people to build barriers to block and dam out the water, but no matter how hard they worked the water kept breaking through; the project failed and the emperor executed Gun. Gun's son, Yu, was appointed as his father's successor. Yu dug trenches throughout the kingdom, new river channels for the water to flow. For 13 years he worked, and eventually the water drained away and in the process irrigated and renewed the land.

I find it fleeting because I try to live vicariously thru the happiness of whoever I entertained, and then later it wears off and I realise I'm just some guy who wears a yellow sweater. I think I don't really aim for long-lasting happiness. I just take each day as it comes and try and be happy each day, and if I succeed then that's great. In my opinion this is a better approach than aiming for some life-changing event like "if only I had my dream job I'd finally have long lasting happiness", because you forget about being happy now. Also, as a result of becoming more independent and having to actually start paying for my stuff now, money may not be able to buy you happiness, but I think it is damn important in enabling you to do things that give you happiness. Also having financial security eliminates burdens and worries about money that could get in the way of feeling happy.

Normally I get feelings of disappointment or regret after watching movies. On another note, Me getting into top100 in fantasy proleague would make me happy right now : ( Right now I just fill this hole with food... ughhh

When I write about being distracted, I'm usually happy during that time. Listening to music, going out, helping other people, writing, drawing. I just took the OP's post to mean a lasting contentment. As in when you're not distracted, are you satisfied with who you are and what your life is. Doesn't necessarily mean achieving all your goals or getting your dream job... Just not feeling utterly disappointed.

Why can't you? and how do you define 'a living'? The reason is that I got into music reaaally late. I never even started really listening to music until I was like 18, since my parents didn't allow music at home. I can play the piano and the guitar now but nowhere near good enough, so it would take years of hard work to even start. I can compose music straight off the top of my head, but the biggest reason is that I don't have anyone close to me to work with, since I never cared to find those people because I only got this into music very recently.
