Didn't take long to make the actual image, but probably around 4-5 hours writing the code to do this. First I manually download a crapload of jaedong vods, then use Capturex to take the stills from the video. Then my program processes/resizes the images and store them into an index based on brightness, then it takes the original pic and matches each pixel to a random picture with the corresponding brightness and draws a huge pic.
Wowwwwwwwwwww that is so sick. The 2nd image is huge, but awesome. I must say I'm disappointed with all those Samsung logos though =( It's a discgace to associate Jaedong with Samsung. Still awesome work though. I always liked these things where a bunch of smaller pics make a huge one.

and if this isnt a 5/5 then nothing is.
Getting all the stills would take a long time, but there are mosaic picture creator programs around. I wouldn't know which ones to recommend. There's also programs that help you pull still images out of video files as well.
Very nice work by the OP, it's cool that you made your own program and did a lot of stuff manually. That giant picture is pretty cool.
I was curious to see what existing software there was to do this type of thing a little more automatically. Some other people showed interest in how this was done, now you can do it too!
1. The absolute easiest way http://www.andreaplanet.com/andreamosaic/ the really awesome part of this is it can open a video file and use it to create tiles. You can also set it to use various folders full of images.
2. For some reason the auto tile from video doesn't work in andrea mosaic. Use http://www.virtualdub.org/ it has an Export->Image Sequence tool on your video. Be careful using it though because if you don't lower the frame rate of the video (easily done from the menu) it will export every single frame of the video as an image and will take massive amounts of space and time.
Here's an example one I made from the Season 4 finale of Dexter, so careful zooming in it could contain spoilers!

It's probably cause he wanted to use the team most helpful to Jaedong as a backdrop.
