...... oh dear god, I'm so bad at introductions. A bunch of you know who I am already, so I probably don't need to bother. For the rest of you - I make dumb videos on YouTube. One was on Attack of the Show and Blizzard's official Facebook/Twitter... not really sure what they were smoking!
I figured this TL blog thing might be fun as a means to scribble down all the stupid nonsense I can't quit get into in casts. It's tough to transition from Baby's vulture harass to how my day at work was... unless I was harassed at work by guys on Akira-esque hover bikes, which is not as uncommon as you'd think.
Enough introductions.
I've been searching for good music to play in my car for a long time now. I listen almost exclusively to electronic music, which you may have guessed from the song selections I use for hype videos. Massive Attack's Collected album has run its course, and Unkle's new album was already wearing out its welcome. Nothing wrong with their new album, mind you, but it just never clicked with me as good car music.
You music buffs will understand. Some music is just MADE to be played in a car, on a nice system. I stumbled across the new Pendulum album "Immersion." For some reason, the music really clicked with me. I'd never been a Pendulum fan before, but there are some bang'n tracks on this record. For example -
This song surprised me, not only because it's so unashamedly techno, but it's also really amazing on my car's sound system. On the nightly drive home, a few of the songs from the album make me feel like I'm back in one of the many clubs I've hit for concerts. Good stuff. I'm eyeing a couple songs from Immersion as potentials for my next OSL hype video.
Speaking of my hype video... I need to get working on that. I had planned on a Round of 16 one, but now the ro36 has been condensed, so I don't have much time... We'll see. I won't make it if I know it won't be great.
Immersion is such a great album, I've listened to it countless times since it came out and I just can't put it away. Crush, The Island (part 2), and Witchcraft are my favourite songs on it. What songs are you thinking of for that hype video?
I'm definitely feeling that track, I would really love to hear it in a nice car sound system. Thanks for sharing that. And thanks for the great videos I love them.
Well, I never understood the allure of electronic music... but now after listening to Pendulum ... I still don't get it But thanks for sharing and for putting all the work into your OSL commentaries!
Damn that youtube and its copyright insanity, can't hear the tune now.
However, I heard Massive Attack for the first time in one of your Nuke at Night's, and the guest lists for that band are really amazing. Really good stuff. Good luck with the upcoming OSL season sir.
Thanks, all. To Cowazon - I think I might have to nix that idea. Pendulum doesn't have this album on a label in the US yet, so they're yanking songs off youtube. To bitter - there's not much to 'get' about electronic music. It's all about the power/polish of the stuff. Live electronic music is not of this Earth.. To Plants - I replaced the vid. And being able to 'pimp' my favorite bands is one of the best things about running my channel. To Atom - I've heard a bit of sebastian and LCD, but have never been a huge fan of either. I go through phases, but luckily, electronic has so many sub-genres... It will keep me busy for a lifetime. I was into Trance a few months ago, and now I have a taste for Big Beat.
I do like the new Immersion album. After Hold Your Colour I thought Pendulum had lost it's groove kinda (I didn't like In Silico at all), but I found a lot of the songs on their new album good.
SHE is pretty cool too but I don't think the genres relate too well.
Got their album today, I don't really like The Island Part 2 but Part 1 is fucking good! I'm also really liking Watercolour and Witchcraft I also think Genesis sounds very hype-ish
Im not a huge fan of Squarepusher, but as a drummer, their beats blow my mind. Any advice of some more music of this style?
I'm liking that She stuff. I'm not a big fan of Justice, though. They always felt a bit too Daft Punk-ish for me. As for the Squarepusher question, Squarepusher (he's just one guy) was influenced heavily by Aphex Twin's IDM stuff. Aphex pioneered the genre, so he obviously had a big impact on a lot of artists, but his tunes can sometimes be more abrasive. Hangable Auto Bulb is the first IDM album if you want to go see where it began That's another album I love to play in the car, especially just as the sun is setting.
sheesh engrish mode ON. his beats, his beats I think too that Justice is pretty Daft-Punk-ish as you say, but i just like the energy of their beats (specially Soulwax NY's excuse at A Cross the universe) and that "Stress" videoclip. I'll take a look at IDM, thank you in advance Nuke. Hope i learn something of electronic music on your blog :D, so you and the other blog readers please be gentle.
