that's not so bad, i get spells of drowsiness while playing SC2.
|
i use VODs as a way to fall asleep when taking a nap. maybe it's because the korean commentary acts as white noise since i dont understand it. and I use ones that are 15-20 minutes, so i dont sleep too long. it's strange that i usually wake up soon after the VOD finishes.

Also, the protoss are probably practicing their mine tricks on you again with their High Templar warriors. The new trick is a sleep storm which causes a SC1's storms radius of sleep(lockdown except with unit sleeping animation instead and it works on al bio units) to any biological enemies hit by the storm when done by a Master of the sleep storm but only does it in a SCII's storm's radius when done by a HT who has not fully mastered it.

I've started using VODs to fall asleep within the past few months It only works if I watch them with the intent that I'm going to fall asleep.
They've helped my cure my insomnia/bad sleeping habits, amazing.

i fall asleep while playing desert strike map on iccup

Never happened to me before. I usually just watch the top vods on youtube (most viewed of the day) and a few from the recommended vods thread if that.
If you're falling asleep while watching, it's probably not due to boredom but rather sleepiness.

If I can't sleep I look for a long TvT BW vod and that usually lets me fall asleep.
|
I used to watch VODs all the time around 4-6 pm and I'd fall asleep after the third or fourth game. Now I feel so comfortable taking naps around that time :V

Zerg is obviously the superior race =]

Happens to me too. Haven't noticed any race patterns but SC VODs definitely make me sleepy )=
|
I fall asleep when live games are starting at 5am, i usually can get through the first game, but i tend to crash in between games or during the start of a game
|
I have watched BW vods on my phone a few times to help me fall asleep. I don't think it is the fact it is Starcraft but more the fact I am tired and it is a good distraction. If I don't watch SC or listen to music or something I keep myself awake for hours in bed just thinking about useless things.
|
It always happen to me. keke. I did not watch VOD. I fall asleep while watching live game keke.
The recently I fall asleep is SKT T1 vs WeMadeFox. I fall asleep during Best match keke. Because I watch the match only for Fantasy and Bisu match. When Bisu match really came, I am half awake - half asleep and within 2 minute I am knocked out keke. When I wake up it is 10pm. And I just sleep for the rest of the day. I didn't even off the computer. Ah, so sleepy.
|
I fell asleep today actually watching the Flash vs. Free vod (right after the 2nd half of Brazil vs. Chile). I haven't even been taking naps recently either.
|
Long TvT games put me to sleep no problem, which is why I avoid them during pl matches, lol. Actually, they don't even have to be that long. Something about that matchup bores the crap out of me.

yes, when i am tired and i play starcraft, as soon as i hear the first "you must construct additional pylons", i get angry and i wake up and am fine, but i cannot even attempt to play SC2 a bit tired, i have come very close to falling asleep playing.

How many times can you POSSIBLY say keke in one post? jesus man.
keke.
As for the OP, just try to get REALLY EXCITED, as in start screaming along with the koreans and making korean sounds if you have to, it really does help, especially during those super late night streams (or super early morning, depending on your schedule). Then again, I always try to see what the potential games are going to be, if its a bunch of TvT or ZvZ i cant bring myself to get overly excited (at least for the latter)

I usually watch the boring games as a way to fall asleep =/ Such as long TvT's with no action, or TvP's where there is no action either. ( turtle and move out ) -.-
|
I stopped watching VODS (aside from the recommended vods) because I don't get excited as much when watching anymore and it tends to make me sleepy instead. Haven't gotten sleepy playing yet though o_o
|
Never watched too many VODs to notice anything like that, but every damn time i try to watch more than 5-6 replays of BW in a row, no matter how good, I get incredibly drowsy, and have used this to put me to sleep when I had trouble with falling asleep myself. Wish I knew the reason.
|
SC2 will make people sleepy...even though I never played it, it's just not as intense as BW from VODs
|
it also has alot to do with the fact it occurs in the wee morning hours for many people in North America. East coast has it a lot worse though, 5am. vs 2am for West coast ppl.

Happens to me also, when wathing VODs in the evening, with the result of my pc burning all night. Made a batchfile that I run before watching VODs, this will shutdown pc in 2 hours with a single click.
Just copy text to notepad and save as a .bat file. (work in XP)
shutdown -f -s -t 7200
And the equivalent stop button:
shutdown -a
+ Show Spoiler +ShutdownAllows you to shut down or restart a local or remote computer. Used without parameters, shutdown will logoff the current user.
Syntax shutdown [{-l|-s|-r|-a}] [-f] [-m [\\ComputerName]] [-t xx] [-c "message"] [-d[u][p]:xx:yy]
Parameters -l Logs off the current user, this is also the defualt. -m ComputerName takes precedence. -s Shuts down the local computer. -r Reboots after shutdown. -a Aborts shutdown. Ignores other parameters, except -l and ComputerName. You can only use -a during the time-out period. -f Forces running applications to close. -m [\\ComputerName] Specifies the computer that you want to shut down. -t xx Sets the timer for system shutdown in xx seconds. The default is 20 seconds. -c "message" Specifies a message to be displayed in the Message area of the System Shutdown window. You can use a maximum of 127 characters. You must enclose the message in quotation marks. -d [u][p]:xx:yy Lists the reason code for the shutdown. The following table lists the different values. Value Description u Indicates a user code. p Indicates a planned shutdown code. xx Specifies the major reason code (0-255). yy Specifies the minor reason code (0-65536).
/? Displays help at the command prompt. Remarks If you indicate a major and minor reason code, you must first define these reason codes on each computer for which you plan to use the particular reason. If the reason codes are not defined on the target computer, Event Viewer cannot log the correct reason text. Examples To shut down \\MyServer in 60 seconds, force running applications to close, restart the computer after shutdown, indicate a user code, indicate that the shutdown is planned, log major reason code 125, and log minor reason code 1, type:
shutdown -r -f -m \\MyServer -t 60 -d up:125:1

This has never happened to me because
a) No matter how recommended it is, I never watch the entirety of a TvP/TvT match unless it's under 15 minutes (2fac/proxy robo/etc), I just skip to near the end if it's "omg long epic match pew pew" b) If I'm watching a VOD I'm almost always browsing TL/on MSN/doing whatever other stuff in a small window on the side, so if it gets boring I just stop paying attention to it
As for watching live, I crash all the time during early morning matches in between games. Commercials + replay time are way too long T_T. Never fall asleep during a game though.

when i was superh ardcore and downloaded every single vod that came out (this was back in like 04 05 lol) and i didn't even know what league was what and what round of games the vods were of i made myself watch as many vods as i could even before i slept
obviously after school and all that i'd be super tired so by the end of the night after watching so many hours of vods i'd be dozing off haha

For me, any game that involves playing against another player that isn't turned based wakes me up. I actually have to make a point of not playing any RTS or FPS about 30 minutes prior to going to bed or else I end up having difficulty sleeping

BW VODs and playing BW have always had an awakening effect on me, often making it even more difficult for me to fall asleep. Of course I usually try to have something else to do while watching anything, be it chatting with roommates, eating a meal, browsing the web on a second monitor, or playing a game on the TV or second monitor.
And I can completely relate to SC2 somnific qualities. In basically every BW game I get a rush of excitement, but the only times I get that feeling in SC2 is when I'm playing 2v2s and my friend disconnects, leaving me to control 2 players at once.
