So I wanted to start doing some commentaries of replays to upload to youtube, but I've run into an issue.
About 9 minutes into this game I get a sudden FPS drop (takes like 15 seconds to go from 30 down to 1) and I can't figure it out. I've got all the settings set properly, shit in sc2 is set to low etc. What gives?
Just changed to 16 bit instead of 32 to see if that does anything
PS- anyone else having issues with droppin reps on the sc2 icon? Sometimes it opens sc2 to a black screen and nothing happens, sometimes it starts loading the rep and crashes at 99%, sometimes it doesn't do anything (window mode on).

Need more details. Fraps video record settings, the map you tried recording on [or screen you were on] (area of the map), comp specs, does frames drop at the same spot/area each time this happens?

It was on LT, a 32 minute game. The point where it happens is when there is a DT coming in, some roaches newly arrived, a few overlords shitting creep. And I don't think it mattered if I was looking at it. It started to lag in the P base and the FPS wouldn't go back up even after the DT died anyways. (everything was running smooth until then). I tried to restart it at 9 minutes again and it does the same thing every time.
Fraps is set to 30fps, record sound, detect best sound input, fullsize.

You might want to try xfire.

When you experience this slow down, I suggest you stop that section of the recording, and restart it. This may solve the issue. If it does, we'll consider steps to fixing it from there.
Also please realize.. Full screen.. that's big space hog and resource hog. You might actually be running out of memory when this happens @ ddr 800. You have 2 gigs or 1?

Actually I'm just tired, and usually the x2 is after the product, or at least on the same line, or already adjusted.
Imagine following a recipe:
x2 Please insert one egg into the recipe.
^ Yeah, that's pretty straight forward.
Anyway, try running the record at half and see what happens.

Also, the replay problem you're experiencing many people are experiencing. Sometimes when the game isn't blacked out, the mini map is. Sometimes games don't load all the way. It's a client error and the reason we are getting a new one either for p2 or for the games release.
The client has to parse through versions of the games and experiences some sort of difficulty through it.

Oh man, you tweaked them in game or out of game? (I use the same video card but from EVGA, sometimes it's a bit painful.)
Edit: Have you tried restarting between doing all these tweaks?

Buy more RAM, increase paging file size - problem solved, next problem pls.

I'm talking about restarting your computer, CM.

its down to like 56mb out of 465 gb
edit- I'm reading around google that people say that it should be set to 1.5x your current ram. If that is true then why was mine set so low ?
I'm going to defrag and im gonna try this too http://www.theeldergeek.com/defragmenting_a_page_file.htm

Windows sets that virtual page awfully low sometimes.
I would also suggest running that ram.
Also, can you check that make sure the RAM is properly running in dual channel mode?
You can check by using CPU-Z, grab a link off my computer help blog. I'm stream typing here so my boss doesn't realize I'm alt tabbing to other media ;x
(Chill can check my IP so I don't get banned like that lying joker in that other thread, heyoo.)

Umm maybe try setting pagefile to "system managed size" and perhaps try using a more "professional" program like camtasia to record, maybe it wont have the same problems.

Camtasia sucks, and it doesn't work well with high quality games like wc3 or sc2. (it only works for me in window mode). Pretty sure anyone (besides BW people) all use Fraps and Vegas.
btw, I found this- since I use O&O http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,1786011,00.asp It seems to be an older version than I'm using, but its basically the same steps- just options worded differently.
Defrag starts in 1 minute be back when its done.
edit- status 18% complete 8 hours or some shit to go..

CM, what's CPU Z say under CPU, Printscreen please.
|
...ionno what's up with some ppl recommendations.
You don't need ram to run fraps.
Likely if you needed ram it's becuase sc2 has a memory leak problem
Fraps is caped by the write speeds of a hdd, how much space do you have left on the hdd you're writing too. Perhaps at 9 mins of constant max speed writing your hdd has problems thermally or is nearly full.
and system page filing would only work to off load the explorer and crap while sc2 demands more ram which you have plenty of.
Changing it to sc2 16 bit wont do anything fraps will still be taking up the same amount of bandwidth i believe it uses the RGB24 to write it's files
|
Well I just wanted to make sure his RAM was properly set to dual channel.
Typically when HDD's have issues with FRAPS they cut off and make a new file itself, it's usually around this time too.
CM, have you tried reinstalling FRAPS?
Also, are you still having graphical problems?
|
actually yes, at his resolution it would be about 9 mins in when a new file would be created.
1024*768*3*30=70778880 ~70.1Mbp/s compression 100-40% of original size so 70% 70778880*.7 = 49545216 ~ 49.5Mbp/s
3993 MB file
49.5/8=6.1875 ~ 6.1MBp/s
3993/6.1 =~ 654/60 ~ 10mins so yeah about a 8-12 min file

Yea, this actually happened. After a few minutes of recording (with no interruption though) I noticed that it made 2 files, 3.9 and 3.16 gigs. Perhaps it was trying to make the 3rd file and fucked up?
I dunno though, because I began to record a whole new one just starting the rep at 9 minutes and it lagged anyways.
no didn't try to reinstall.
I haven't been able to drop a rep onto SC2 to even test shit anymore. Fucking worse than the fraps problem >.<
I've got defrag on pause, shit is taking way too long
PS- Just deleted Devil May Cry 4 (shitty game) and the rar files on my F drive so that freed up 10 gigs or so

Oh, this computer isn't as bad as some may think it is off in it's category. The only problem is you're capped out in ddr2 ram on this mobo I believe.
Let's give this a shot.
Run Fraps on a different game, same res that you play sc2 on, and see if we encounter a similar problem at a near-same recording time.Run it full screen as you did on sc2. This should use a similar amount of HDD space, and we'll see if we encounter the problem again.
We will take it from there. I really dislike considering having 'computer problems' basing it off of using a third party program while running an application that's in beta. It's just not proper or fair to the computer.

I used to have a problem I believe at least is similar with this. The problem for mine is that the Hard disk ran out of space during recording. After I stopped recording immediately, the FPS went back up to normal.
The split 3gb files are coded by FRAPs for maintaining video integrity (most of it despite its being anoying putting them back together later) Hope this helps.
|
Ok, the defrag definitely solved the problem. Now I ran into another issue though, I ran out of HD space lol. It stopped recording at about 20 minutes in T_T. Gotta find a shorter game. Thanks for the help everyone
