Well I always ask people what their ranks are when the game starts, and I check after the games as well. And I noticed when I was stuck in the division that I was playing mostly shittier people for a while. Then I started playing only diamonds and doing better than 50% so it had enough sample size to move me up.

Anyways, I think I was in 6th plat when I got boosted up to 34th plat. So it really doesn't matter what your metal rank is or how many fakey elo points you have. As long as it's matching you up with diamond players you're fine. And when you do finally advance a metal league, then you will be transported to the top 20 places or so.

So like 5-0 gets you into gold or plat, where you'd play other people who have 4-1/5-0 records. From there you are matched up with mostly plat people, after a while when the diamond rank is created then you need to play like 10 diamond people to move up. Since the diamond rank was new, there were less people to play. So you probably just got unlucky with searches, where the game wanted to match you with diamonds, but they were all taken. And in this case, it doesn't want you to wait so it just puts you up against the best platinums. Which doesn't do anything for you but boost your fakey elo and record.

I thought I was just bugged at first, but I saw multiple friends who would go to 30-2 or some such and not get promoted, while others would get bumped up with 15-9 records. Seems like they left it in for release since some players like Idra/Moonglade aren't being promoted with 30+ wins against 0/1 losses. From what I can tell, the magic arbitrary number is 8 losses, I guarantee you'll be moved up within a few games of your next loss, since you have 7.

I played against a toss who was clearly better than me, and then I lost the next game to a cheese in ZvZ, and then was matched against the same toss again and lost (it was close mind you). Then it gave me another ZvZ and the guy hilariously 14 hatched and was subsequently destroyed by lings and then I was promoted to Diamond.

However, I was looking at the ladder last night and IdrA was #1 in his Platinum division with a record of 27-1. Yes. 27 wins and 1 loss. The only loss was clearly a dropped game (just a few seconds long) to LzGaMeR (I see that others have observed this as well). I really can't imagine what they use to determine Diamond. Elo. APM. # of games played. High income/low resources unused. # of drones made lol. the list could go on. Though i think whoever said there is a minimum loss requirement is probably correct. Any and all of these would be better by players like Incontrol and IdrA. Again, I have no idea what they use to determine this. That video was hilarious btw.
