So today I decide to to scan through my friends ladder menu (which is a awesome idea to have in the game), I of course start at the bottom and find n00bs like Alou and start scanning up.
I am surprised by the number of top players that are still in plat but most people have been sucked into the campaign so nothing is too unexpected.
Than I see one name that doesn't make sense in Rank 1 plat, CauthonLuck. Why doesn't it fit? Cauthon is a laddering machine and ALWAYS in 1v1 or custom's (for tournaments and shit), and ALWAYS has the most absurd win rate on the ladder.
What do I see:
Yeah it's a real competitive division...
So join the cause! Show your support for Cauthon to get to diamond! And iNcontroL thought he had it bad....
(Sorry this just made me lol pretty hard and figured u guys might get a kick out of it)

hhahaha I noticed this the other day, and now we all know his name.. brb stalking in his lawn with binoculars and camo
Cauthonluck..just isn't Diamond material..
"That's so BM"

The more people I hear about having this issue the more I wonder if Blizzards "promotion" algorithm needs to be tweaked.
The point differential between #1 and #2 is insane, haha.
|
lol that sucks, I was in almost the same exact situation 2 days ago. I had about 950 points in platinum, then when I finally got promoted I went all the way down to 250 points. So annoying!

Meh it was already on Liquipedia and TLPD2 and a million other places.

That sucks. It seems to work right for most people but several get the shaft..

Huh? Last I check 87% is pretty absurd. As is IdrA's 88% etc.....
He's ranked on that site #4 in the world. #1 is a drop hacker and I assume #2 is also. So on the ladder he's really #2 behind only IdrA. And he's in PLATINUM! See a problem...?

Who is that "SeLecT" fellow? Thanks for the responses ^^

You need to lose 7 times in a row to get promoted.
|
Holy..... That's insane. IdrA tearing it up as usual :D
|
not 7 times, however everyone I know that has been promoted from platinum to diamond, did reasonably well, then went on a losing streak of at least 3 games, then won once, and got promoted. I'm fairly confident that this is indeed what they look for. Idra, for example, was something like 38-2 platinum before he lost a few games and got promoted.
platinum + reasonable stats + 3 losses then a win = diamond, trust me!

He might be the age of empires player SeleCT_kr, he won WCG multiple times.
bad ass RTS player.

SeleCt is a top level Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War player. He won WCG twice for the event (thus entering their "hall of fame"). He had 8 accounts in the top 10 of the DOW ladder at one point, and popularized the line "reric make bug" among DOW players.
Originally he lived in Korea, but he moved to America a few years ago (for school, I believe).
There is a badly one-sided replay I uploaded of him here to see how he plays (it is very similar to his DOW style). Short game as I just kinda die (had not played beta phase 2, and had just gotten the game).

Blizz employee: "Shall we promote Cauthon Luck to Diamond yet?" Dustin Browder: "No" Blizz employee: "But sir he has almost 1k points and an 88% win rate!" Dustin Browder: "He's not ready yet!" Blizz employee: "When will he be ready sir?" Dustin Browder: "When he has OVER. NINE. THOUSAND." Blizz employee: "OVER NINE THOUSAND????" -Shamelessly stolen from the EG vent thing about iNc.

Lol I thought about that very thing while writing this blog!

Haha so wait, when you are promoted do you get auto reset to 0 points? That would suck for him T_T

No but he will probably end with something stupid like 200-300 pts.
|
he wins more.
plus you guys should know that you need minimum 7 losses to move up lol. Cauthon is at 6, wait til hes over 7 to complain

platinum + reasonable stats + 3 losses then a win = diamond, trust me! thats exactly what happened to me except more like a 6 game losing streak ._.
|
lol well the opposite happened to me, i was 12-6 in gold, won a game and was promoted to plat, then lost a game and won another one, and was promoted to diamond. I guess i'm just better than cauthonluck...
|
Tell him to lose 2 games and then win 1. He'll get Diamond. Callin it.
|
i'm not sure, but why is there a minimum loss requirement to move up? isn't that a little counter-intuitive? so essentially if you get placed in division X and never lose, you'll always be stuck in X and never move up to X+1?
|

I don't think it's intentional, rather there is an error with the promotion algorithm and as such it takes a certain amount of losses before one is eligible to move up. They say that one needs to have >50% win rate before they are eligible to be promoted, and so just by winning the first game a player will have 100% win rate, so perhaps they need a player to have played a certain number to be promoted, but rather than have "number of games played", they chose "number of losses"
|
Idra is imba. jebbus. Wierd ranking system.
|
|
wow, that is incredibly ridiculous lol
|
5 of idras losses are games he quit so he could get promoted to diamond and at least 1 is a d/c in the first 40 seconds of game. Which makes his win % even more absurd. Should be 82-6.

Wtf is up with the Goliath pic? Your PsyonicReaver not PsyonicGoliath!!!!

Was just puttering about (dont normally meander the blog section) and saw this and chuckled pretty heartily. Poor Cauthon, only 8k more points to go
|
|
|
Just an update on this:
Yeah.......
|
I like how there are a lot of new names below him, and the second place gained 19 points. Most of the players below him probably have been moved up to diamond.
|
I believe CauthonLuck has angered the mighty blizzard gods. He should repent his sins so that the all mighty blizzard will promote him. Or he could make a video with cute and cuddly kittens.
|
Since I'm a poll whore I thought this would be a good time for a very important poll:
Poll: How many points will Cauthon have before he gets promoted?Over 9000!!!!!! (11) 79% 1301-1400 (2) 14% 1401-1500 (1) 7% 1150-1200 (0) 0% 1201-1300 (0) 0% 14 total votes Your vote: How many points will Cauthon have before he gets promoted? (Vote): 1150-1200 (Vote): 1201-1300 (Vote): 1301-1400 (Vote): 1401-1500 (Vote): Over 9000!!!!!!

And what's up with the "must lose 7 times in order to move up to diamond"? am I the only one that find that dumb? You have to lose in order to advance?

he definitely needs over 9,000. Doesn't have enough yet, sorry bro.
|

Well at this rate he should hit it with a record of 394-55. Almost there......
