Why would i do this? Lately i couldnt really listen to anything, for a number of reasons, and i never was the type to listen the same song over and over again, but in the past couple of days i listened to this so many times. Why? I dont really know, probably because i canot decied what kind of song this is. Not really a love song, not really a drunk-song, not really a sad song, not really scisophrenic, but all of them a bit, maybe even more. At least i feel that way about it.
The title means Star or Swallow, i know the word "star" is really overused in english, but not that much in Hungarian (yet), and it's a relatively old song. I also know my translation wont really give back the real meaning, but hell, i'm going to do it anyways, here you go:
You didnt come too soon,
but i had Time
He became my pal
and we sat in buffets,
waiting for you.
Patting each other's backs,
sending drinks
For women in blue,
not even suspecting her past. *
Stay at home, watch TV
every chanel is showing totally dark trains
they re goin, there s not a single passanger,
only two, staying in the buffet car -drunken-
the one feelin sick is me.
What a pity, they are showing me now, just before,
I was praising God.
We didnt really start
anything, you re coming anyways,
and why would we even
for this short time.
And after all, you didnt come
we repugged it into life **
-with my pal, Time,-
this sitting around.
Stay at home, watch TV
every chanel is showing totally dark trains
they re goin, there s not a single passanger,
only two, staying in the buffet car -drunken-
the one feelin sick is me.
What a pity, they are showing me now, just before,
I was praising God.
Anyways, it's all the same
I knew you wont come
you were a star at night
and a swallow at day.
Every field is sown,
Everything grows in order ***
I leave this to you,
You star or swallow.
Stay at home, watch TV
every chanel is showing totally dark trains
they re goin, there s not a single passanger,
only two, staying in the buffet car -drunken-
the one feelin sick is me.
What a pity, they are showing me now, just before,
I was praising God drunken-...
* I'm not sure how to translate that line it could be referring to the women's past or the missing "you"'s past
** that's my favorite part, but it's so hard to translate it proparly. I'm not sure if i'm using "pugging" correctly, i want to express the activity of reshaping materials, like clay, but still applieable to "life"
*** There are many subtle things like this in the text although not as explainable like this, it's a play with words, as "nő" means both "grows" and "woman". So it's either what i wrote, or "Every women is allright".
So that's it let me know, if you liked the song, i'd say it's pretty good even if you don t understand the lyrics.
