Anyways, I asked her if she had any experience with games, and she responded with "I've played mario a few times, and that game with the little green dinosaur (eventually i realized she meant yoshi, lol)." How do you teach someone with so minimal experience with even a keyboard/mouse to play the most competitive game ever? She is very very smart and studious, so I know she can do it if she puts her mind to it, but I don't want to burn her out with SC2's complexity right off the bat. But I also want to stay on the PC to get her used to using the keyboard and mouse, what do you think TL? Maybe diablo?

I got my gf started on a counter-strike clone. Just told her what the controls are, and basics of how to adjust for recoil, and 3 months later she's as good as the average guy.

Maybe some custom maps. That's what drew me into BW initially.

Whatever you do, don't mention Day9. You'll shoot yourself in the foot if you do that.

Honestly I doubt she is going to commit to it, this has nothing to do with gender, just that SC is a lot more complex and requires more work then people realize, but its a good chance to flirt

Or since she has played mario a 'few' times, get her an emulator and play through yoshi's island and get her coordination and reflexes up to at least a semi-acceptable level

1. NaDa FPVOD 2. TLPD 3. Klazart 200 WPM commentary 4. FBH ceremonys 5. ICCUP Korean hours. And she might understand that due to her Mario gaming background.

There is no such thing is casual gaming in the starcraft world Seriously I'd watch some commentary/replay while explaining the game basis. She will understand that you have to build an army as strong as your opponent or he will attack you. Also that you have to gather more ressource as the game goes on.... I would also show her the game commands (attack, move, build) without using the keyboard, she wont bother using ctrl or hotkeys at the beginning.

Do you really believe she wants to learn to play starcraft, when the last game she played was ... mario?

as much as possible, make her play the campaign first so she will learn the basics and get into the vibe of the story. Much better that she can have fun with it first then show reach and bisu once she turns gets really into the game.

1. workers mine minerals which is money 2. they take 8 minerals each trip 3. you need 2.5 workers per mineral patch for saturation 4. workers cost 1 supply 5. supply is how many units you can build 5. you can have up to 200 supply 6. you need supply depots to increase your supply ..........

Some missed on a few crucial points IMO: - She has already shown interest, don't need to show her progamers, day 9, etc. Save this for when interest decreases - If she tries it and doesn't like it, let it go; don't force the issue. Its likely that you have other things to base your friendship in. - Don't expect her to want to do this everytime you hang out, clearly gaming is a small diversion for her, rather than a passion. - If she plays farmville or other similar game, use the concepts she knows from these games to apply to this game. Make the game relate to things she knows to generate interest

My social skills are amazing. This one time I was playing HoN and I worked up the courage to use my microphone. And we almost won that time, but only after all my teammates muted me for being a whiny bitch. Also, I'm going to dinner right now. Which is social because there will be a lot of people around, none of whom I will talk to <3.

Extra points if you can do it with both hands at once, or convince her to tape her fingers to yours. This is the best advice I've ever heard in my entire life. I'd like to add a suggestion that you run your fingers through her hair with your left hand, starting during the mid game. Play this right and you could be making out by "gg."

I was just advising him to not run a good opportunity to talk to a girl (omg right) by going all hardcore "i will show you the way to be awesome" on her. She wants to have fun, so the "best way" to teach her is to just hang out, have fun, don't take anything seriously... Honestly all this "show her the campaign or commentaries" stuff is so wrong...

I've taught some complete newbie guy to play SC, so from my experience let them start with the campaign is the best way. Then you fill her in with the SC2 communities, tourneys and stuff to keep her interest...and yeah, those "fill in“ can be done in various places and times w/o even the computer involved :D Hey, if she really likes you, buy her a copy and happy 2v2, that would be very cool

In a different note, be as basic as possible. I was playing in high school, and these two pretty cute girls got fairly excited about trying it. They had difficulty controlling the 4 workers. -_- But they were excited about it, so... I guess that counts for something? Start with the basics, economy, and army. If she seems more and more interested, feel free to delve into the progaming scene and such. If she's a little hesitant keep it at a newbie/casual level. Good luck! Maybe you can get a "Tossgirl" esque practice partner? o.o

When she says "oh no you lost your queen!", Take your hands off your keyboard and mouse, look her in the eyes, and reply, "The only queen I need is you." That's all I got. and don't forget to say gg to your opponent.

Learning about Micro/Macro and all of that gaming lexicon is honestly very boring for lots of early players. Make her do the campaign and have her get used to the storyline. The storyline's intriguing enough to hold anybody attention I think....

lol, on a more serious note, I don't think she is really into "starcraft" per say. I think she is into you and that shiny looking game. And if it turns out she actually is into starcraft, you need to marry that girl. Have fun and good luck to you!

Imho, we all want a girl who plays starcraft, so GO FOR THE DOUBLE!!!! Be flirty while teaching her. If you sense she's not really paying attention, then maybe she was just after you the whole time, then you can give it up and fall back to standard operating procedures, watch some movies, get cuddling etc. The other .001% chance is she got hit by lightning for no apparent reason suddenly wants to become gosu at sc2. She saw you pwning it up, and is using you to teach her the ways of the mouse and keyboard. In this case, may as well anyway, and you can work on her in the meantime. The double! Do it for all of us!

I'm surprised more girls don't want to learn to play after watching me play like a baller. Basically, after I won while she was watching, I stood up in my armani pea coat, chestnut hair flowing in the wind from my fan, and I gallantly said to her "Yeah. Terran early aggression has nothing on my 14 hatch double expand build babe." True story of course.
