Yeah I do this regularly.
On a related note. Sometimes I will writing up a nice reply to someone who clearly doesn't understand TL etiquette. I put the time and effort to find the right informative links and add in the correct formatting.
Read, and re-read to make sure I am not insulting the poor guy. Press the send button and then nothing.
Damn thread is closed. Grrrrrrr.

I do that about half the time, mostly in the general forum when people are talking about things they dont understand.
Basically anytime i write negatively about a person I will wind up not posting it. Usually just not worth it.
|
What I generally do is just before I hit the back button I copy it and then I PM it to Coagulation with no context.
|
I do that quite often. I type out a post and just hit the back button. Its like posting without posting.

Being the lurker that i am, I often don't find i could even contribute to the thread much. Often i will right something out, read it over, realize how worthless it is (i.e Macro better advice), and then just not post.
So not the same thing is in "rage" replying into not posting, just not posting for fear of not helping thread at all -_-

I have had a few of those for sure. It comes down to will this post help out the original post's discussion or not? If I answer yes then I will post, if I answer no i usually do not post, if it is inbetween I have a 50-50 chance of posting or not posting.
I usually try and stay clear of responding to people who will never change there opinion. An example of this is the BW vs SC2 zealots. One person from each side will be so adamant that one is the best and the other is complete garbage, they will never change their opinions, but they seem to keep on posting the same garbage at each other with a ton of anger making the thread turn to shit in no time.

4th time I'm rewriting the reply, that's enough.
|
I often type out a solid 3-4 lines and then realize that its already been said so i then continue my lurker status
|
yes all the time. Not posting my response is the ultimate way of saying "i really really really really don't care about your opinion".
|

I solved this problem by only reading factual threads (R&S, LR, news/announcement, and media thread OPs) and blogs. The BW forums are still good (unless there's something that deals with Blizz/Kespa or SC2) but relatively slow. Most threads in the SC2 forums are not worth reading, let alone responding to.
I would go back to the way it was my first few years at TL, when I didn't even bother making an account, but I can't give up FPL.

I do this aaaaaalllllllllll the time haha
So many posts that will never be read...

Spat out my drink (edit: through my nose).
Ehem. Same situation as the OP at times (especially when the thread/post previous mine involves player bashing). I know I won't ever post a flame-ridden reply, but it's cathartic to write it out and just let loose before deleting the post.

This happens to me and I end up not posting anything. Usually I don't actually finish writing the post though.
Same as you I get annoyed at some retarded posts in a thread and want to replay explaining how noob they are. But about half way through writing the post I realize that it will take another 5 or 10 minutes to finish writing my post and there seems little point finishing it.
Once the annoyance fades I start thinking that there is little chance the they will even see my post. Even if they did I start to wonder why I am wasting my time trying to explain things to some random noobs on the internet. Nothing has gotten through to them so far and I doubt my post going to change that.
