Andy, I just met you on the ladder. We were having a friendly ZvZ, when at the 13ish minute mark, my mom called me. At the time I didn't know it was my mom, my step-mother simply said that I had a phone call. I asked if I could pause, and you politely obliged. You waited for a good 4 or 5 minutes, until my mom and I were finished talking. We resumed, and you quickly assumed a commanding lead. I was nearly going to give you the gg, when the screen "Waiting for Player" popped up with your name on it. And after 60 seconds, you timed out. I feel real bad man. I stole your points. If we ever meet again on ladder, I will gladly leave to give you back your points.
It means a lot that you gave me the time to talk to her. She's been struggling with some alcholism for a long time, and this was the last time I could talk to her for probably a few months as she goes to get some help a ways away after a relapse.
Andy, you're a good guy. I know it was just common politeness in letting me pause, it means a lot more. Thanks a ton.

Replay (Don't judge my ZvZ, it's honestly terrible.)

Andy and I met again on the ladder, and he got his points back!
Cute thread ^_^ But if I have something important to discuss like in your case, I would just have left the game rather than asking someone to wait patiently. I really hate the pausers.

You can do that via match history pretty easily
I will. Added him to friends, he just hasn't gotten on yet. And I didn't know the call was going to be from my mom, I just thought it was any old phone call.
It kind of pisses me off how so many players unpause after a pause, with no regard to personal perplexities such as penile paralysis, and pastry poisoning. This preposterous problem leads me to believe that perfect panties can be peeped.

It's either at the comma. Or at the panties. Not sure.

It pisses me off when the pauser unpauses without asking, especially if they are 6 pooling. I commend Andy for waiting 4-5 minutes on a pause, that I would not have done unless the player specifically said what was going wrong.
If you're going to pause immediately and only say "1 sec"; you best just e fixing your settings really quick.

It's like a train wreck, I'm fascinated and horrified, but can't look away...
Well you came and you gave without taking but I walked away, oh Andy well you played me and paused, and were waiting I missed you today, oh Andy...
... I had started a Family Guy at random just before I started this thread and it's the one where they go to Barry Manilow and he sings just that with Quagmire instead of Andy. Freakin' out.

If this is real, it's great to see this kind of stuff on the TL threads. Definitely a breath of fresh air among the QQ and rage posts (many of which I may or may not have been a part of ).
I do have to say, though, that if you did want this message to get through to Andy, couldn't you just chat with him on Bnet by clicking your match history, finding said game, and the adding Andy as friend and messaging him if he was on?

He did that too
If i knew there were more Andy's out there i might even dare to try and ladder instead of just being a fan and SC2 watcher...lol
Playing a lot of League of Legends lately, mannered and sweet gamers is something I just cannot get enough of. You made my morning a little better op, and Andy :D.
I once let someone pause for 5 or so minute with my scouting probe in his base... When he got back and we unpaused... I cannon rushed.. He wasn't happy.
when people want to pause i simply dont reply... and when they say resume? i simply dont reply.. this way.. i can mess with their mind even more... yea... mind bullets ; )

On May 22 2011 02:08 Drazerk wrote: Wish there was more people like Andy... most people i encounter resume play in seconds
I try my damndest to never pause a game. If my GF texts me during a match... if it's an important message I just don't pause and have 0 in game APM and all my APM goes to me sending her a text back. If she calls I just let it ring and call her after I'm finish with the game.
Only time I pause is if someone is knocking on my door.
Whenever someone pauses the game, I don't mind waiting for them. I absolutely hate it though when someone pauses the game and doesn't say shit. They just expect me to wait for 10 minutes without giving me any reasons as to why they paused the game. A simple "I got a phone call or someone is at the door" is all I want to see. When someone pauses the game without saying anything I just feel insulted for some reason...
Like imagine you were playing basketball with someone and they just drop the ball and walk off without saying anything. Wouldn't you feel weird? So I try and be nice and say "You coming back soon?" Then I give them a countdown and if they still don't respond I just resume the game because they ignored me. I don't feel like an asshole. It's just if you're going to pause the game at least say why you are pausing it.
It's just game ethics to tell someone "Hey I need to pause the game for a bit. I need to answer a phone call." Then say "Ready? 3..2..1 resume"
Yet too many times I've seen people just pause the game without saying a word and then resuming the game couple minutes later without warning. >,<
I'd definitely let the OP pause the game for 30+ minutes if he/she wanted to talk to their mom though. Just give a brief reason as to why you're pausing the game and it's all cool. I can wait.

You're a legend. TL strikes again.
So much manner... brings an e-tear to my e-eye. Ah e-dramas.
I was just going to lurk this thread until andy showed up but now that he has I must speak out and give a thanks to everyone like you. What a great ending to a great story.
On May 21 2011 16:09 Kamais_Ookin wrote: I envy Andy, makes me feel bad because whenever someone pauses I unpause immediately, no matter what reason they give.
fuck you mang, why you gotta bring the bm in a manner thread like this?
Dalguno should just "GG", waiting 5 min is just bad manner for a possible 15 ladder points. I doubt Dalguno is in master league or GM because he said " iam terrible" so probably in gold at best. Why make a post when there is "Instant message" in starcraft 2 to say thanks ?
15 ladder points for a "terrible zerg" deserves a post to say sorry?
Good thing you are not Tasteless. He would've gladly taken those ladder points without a second thought otherwise, and proceeded to move onto his next victim.
But touching blog overall, especially if that person really is Andy. Good to know the message reached him
I respect you for making this blog, OP, and I respect Andy as well for being manner enough to keep the game paused so you could talk to your mom. Ahh I love blogs like these. They make me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. I feel the love! ^_^
We need more guys like those two, and less people like this:
Nomad: haha bronze fag Nomad has reconnected Nomad: fuck ur mom u twat bi tch HAHAHAHAHAH FAG You: k The player is ignoring you. Nomad: BRONZRE NOOB T WAAAT HAHAHAHA UR MOTHER Nomad has disconnected.
(that was the chat following a Diamond vs Diamond ZvZ (which I won))
Adorable thread. Even glancing at the official blizzard forums invariably makes me wonder why I spend so much time on this game, whereas TL makes me proud to be involved with SC2.
hey man it's Andy, no worries dude I got a name change to Vei if we meet again in the ladder.
(jk) cool story

most everyone describes themselves as terrible because everyone describes themselves in relation to where they want to be, and everyone sets high goals

How do we know this is the REAL Andy and not a troll? ^^
Nice story though.
I once had some guy pause when me and him were in the middle of a base trade. I waited a while as he had said 'brb 2 min' so I thought 'well thats fine'. 10 minutes later no sign of him, I unpaused and should have won (if only he wan't a Terran with flying buildings and me with no air and no way to make air) but the game 'detected a stalemate' or something and it was a tie
Ahh makes me think of a few people I play this game with would just unpause in seconds and be like 'I don't care, he should quit', but manner is always nice so GJ Andy <3.
Im going to name my firstborn andy. Seriously though , I just read this whole friggin thread. Cutest.thread. ever. Manly to the max. We need more Andy and OPs on Sc
Waaay to mushy for my taste, this whole thread, and it's for things that happen probably daily (with the only exception of the unfortunate fate of Dalguno's mom, which I'm sorry about).
No, no, no. You're doing it wrong, that's not how you take their ladder points. You have to get your nerd Gauss rifle and stick it in their face and shout "GIVE ME YOUR LADDER POINTS, NERD!".
Its a nice sad story. I know im gonan come off as an asshole but I dont see how this was anything out of the norm besides the OP telling his life story which wasnt related to the other person waiting or dropping.
Real life issues are always more important, but I always like when players show respect, and act cool like this. I've had to pause the game for up to 5 mins a few times, and I've also waited on people too.. Just a matter of how good of a person/player you really are, and this is what makes a difference in this community.

nice post, not dissing the sentiment what so ever. but everyone is acting like this is the nicest thing they have ever seen in their entire lives?
awesome that he didn't unpause, but the OP should have left the game and not kept another gamer waiting on your own RL issues. It's just a lost, leave before making others wait please.
Andy and the OP needs a fan club for their cute/awesomeness. i mean realy this is just way to awesome and cute and with the reply by andy it is evern cuter.
Hahaha cute thread. Is it really so uncommon for people to wait a few minutes when someone pauses during a ladder game? In brood war this is simply standard etiquette.
Since this is spotlighted, wouldn't it be super awesome, if Chill or some other cool dude cast that game between Andy and Dalguno? Man, I want to see that so bad.

Agree. Andy is being very respectful and considering how people often act towards eachother online he deserves a honourable mention. Although, just like you say OP should definitely just have left the game, as a loss is nothing compared to such serious RL issues, and not something you have to just go back to after the phone call.

Yay for Team Liquid. this thread sure makes me proud of having just recieved not one but Two TL shirts for my 18th birthday (I'm wearing both right now )
I lol'd when I saw the fanclub, it's so overkill. People are willing to make a fanclub for any little thing that pops up, I don't think it should be abused.

Think of the community as a Light house and this thread being the guiding light(spot) that let these two people meet.
Seeing as how Andy wasn't a member before and they have now connected this was clearly a success. The community was the instrument that brought them together, hence, it's its own point. -.-
I've never seen a tread so full of love and so empty on trolls, in my entire experience with forums. Such a cute thread, way to be a stand up guy Andy and OP.
I wonder what Andy his thought were when he got that d/c. If I would wait for 5 minutes and then my 36hour disconnect happens right before I win the game... The reason why I have a spare mouse.
I'm a major lurker, but I logged on just to throw this out there:
I play lots of games, DotA, Halo 3, Halo: Reach, CoD (a bunch of em), and of course Starcraft 2 and Brood War, and out of ALL of these games and the numerous forums ive read as I got into all of em, one thing has become quite evident to me.
The Starcraft Community is probably the nicest and most good willed gaming community out there. I know people have their fair share of drama and what not, and I know that trolls are everywhere, but even through all that, there is not one moment when reading these forums that makes me feel ashamed to be a part of this community. Its posts like these that really bring that home.
Idk if this is an appropriate place for this heartfelt post, but I felt like i really needed to get out there and thank all the people in the eSports community for making it such a great place.
