Tonight two Koreans played each other for the finals of the gview invitational (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=243714) a mix of SEA's finest and the mostly Korean murder engines sent in to destroy them. MarineKingPrime vs LiquidHero. The main caster, benji, noticed that he had no-one else to work with and got me to help him. And goddamn did I fuck up eh? So I gotta say sorry for a few important things:
1) I'm sorry for not called MarineKing a fuckwit for doing several heavy 1 base plays in a best of seven series. I'm sorry I didn't call him a talentless hack who couldn't even get second if it weren't for his clearly overpowered race. I'm sorry you guys wanted me to talk about how stupidly designed certain races are in this game and I decided instead to focus on the game at hand and accept it as it is. Sometimes I forget that in this community we rate a person's skill based around how many Command Centres they make and not doing intelligent things like build order variation between rounds and maintaining a very different set of styles to keep your opponent constantly guessing.
2) I'm sorry I ignored things I had already pointed out. Like Hero's expansion nexus in game 4? Yea, shit, I really should of talked about how he was going to get back into the game with a nexus that had 2 probes on it despite having his entire army smashed on the field. I'm sorry that in game 6 I remarked in a deadpan snarky way "jeez, I think Marine King should make ghosts huh" after marveling at Heros feedback micro destroying all the ghosts moments ago. I'm a bad person, but it's ok because I've accepted that and we can all move on.
3) I'm sorry I make observations on the game from a strategic and metagame sense. I'm sorry that I've played scores of ~900 Masters ranked Korean ladder TvP and noted that most of the time after their FE they generally don't do defensive robo play into colossus but generally prefer faster upgrade and gateway intensive and twilight council focused styles. From now on I shall no long try to understand the game and instead focus just on telling you what's on the screen and keep the strategic analysis strictly to worker and supply counts, remembering to open up the particular tab and draw attention to it.
4) I'm sorry that some things I said along the lines of "I think he might do this because I'd imagine it's a good idea" turned out not to be true. Because this never happens to high level players/commentators, like Incontrol-Gretorp or Day9 or Tastosis. Every time they think they know how a player is going to transition into something they'll let you know about it and they do so with a 0% failure rate. I shall strive to be as astute as they are. In addition, I'm really sorry that when I mentioned I wasn't entirely sure about how a certain style plays out against another style too well that I mentioned it using phrases like "well I've not really done this myself or seen a lot of it so I'm not entirely sure."
In addition, I'm sorry that I made predictions that were off. For example, I said that MKP was going for a stim timing on Dual Site because his build looked exactly like the stim timing I've seen him do several times before and instead he decides to get conc shells and shields. I also pointed out that Hero was probably going to add a few robo bays to get colossus/templar out on Daybreak because it was exactly what he did on Antiga Shipyards and because that combination is a very difficult one for an unprepared Terran to deal with but instead he kept expanding, adding gateways and just won with those. I tend to make a lot of predictions based off of observations I've made of these players and the playstyles of the races in general and after receiving this positive feedback I know now that this is a very bad way to acquire knowledge.
5) I'm sorry that on occasion Benji's streaming program goofed up, something that rarely happens for him and required a quick restart at parts of the game that were not dramatic at all. I'm sorry we saw there was an issue and quickly rectified it without too much issue. I'm sorry that it was even an issue in the first place. We have decided from now on that we will prerecord these games from replays, go over them several times to make sure everything is perfect, compress them heavily, copy them onto countless USB sticks, train a fleet of carrier pigeons and deploy them to every household. We believe this is an effective way to fix this issue.
6) I'm sorry I don't yell and get all excited when something exciting is going on. It's late here and there are people in this house other then me and I'm sorry I'm considerate to these people and decide to use my inside voice. From now on I'm going to rig a complicated megaphone to my headset so you can remain excited AT ALL TIMES. Because that's how E-sports is supposed to work, of course. I'm one of those weird people who thinks that Starcraft is best commentated when it feels like a pair of friends are both feeling comfortable and just talking about starcraft, not trying to force anything, but I'm sorry for feeling that way.
As for the games themselves I think SPOILERS PAST THIS POINT YOU'VE BEEN WARNED OH MY GOD
mkp played quite strongly but he did manage to get quite a few build order wins. Like in the 6th game he went for 5 rax before gas for some aggressive marine pressure and this was a really good way to deal with Heros Warp prism play which he hadn't scouted. I think his 3 rax CC on Dual Site was a good way to play against Heros 3 gate void, especially since he got the reaper in beforehand but Hero easily could of proxied that stargate and he might not have seen it or he could of lost due to DT's. Hero didn't go DT's at all that series and there seemed like points in almost all those games where putting in DT's somewhere could just win the game.
I was really excited at Heros midgame phoenix usage and that dude looks fucking scary once he's allowed to get 3 bases up. I'm not too sure about hte XNF game, I don't understand how a lot of 1 base terran sort of works but I feel that there is something Hero can do about it. I don't know what it is though.
It was a pretty cool series though and I reckon you should watch it if you hadn't already.
But this post reeks of resentment, and an absolute lack of class. I thought you would've taken the high road, because honestly this will do you no good at all.
Makes me a bit sad honestly.
IS WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY.
But then there's this, and that just makes me love you.

We expect a much more professional commentary from non-professional commentators and it is good you understand this. It is good you are willing to change because pleasing trolls on stream-chat should be your main concern.

I know eh? More sour grapes then a French vineyard imo.
And yeah, the commentary was pretty bad. I tuned in for a few minutes and there was no good flow/chemistry between the two (apparently you were one of them). Really awkward, not very exciting and not too insightful either. So at least some of the criticism was justified, and instead of crying you should just roll with it.

This is basically the most correct post in the thread
I see people being supportive in this thread and I have no idea whether or not they're being sarcastic. And then I see people criticizing you and I have no idea whether or not they're being sarcastic either.
I hope everything works out and we can all be friends. <--- not sarcasm.
This entire blog reaks of whine. tbh I've only seen 1 other caster auctally vent like this. And it was a SEA caster.
You're first comment also is really balance whiny even though the game is balanced. Or am I sensing the fact that you are being majorly sarcastic?
Either way venting like this isn't that way to go. If you are going to vent. Vent in a way that won't make you sound like someone nobody will want to cast with. Cause if a Major tournament admind needed casters. I doubt if they saw this, they would choose you.
Just remember to be a little more aware that people will bash every caster. no matter who it is. everyone and everything is fair game for trolls, except day9.

I think he's being sarcastic-- it gets more clear as the post goes on that he's trying to use sarcasm to make a point. Although sarcasm doesn't translate well to the written word he does a decently good job of it.
I'm sorry that while I was watching I thought you were kinda being a dick towards your fellow caster. After reading this blog, I realize you are actually an awesome casting dude and masters level player who is much more knowledgeable than everyone else about the game.
Geez. This comes across as a bit emo and dramatic. I don't see the point of getting tangled up in negativity. In any interaction with a group of people there will be positive and negative views expressed. Why engage with only the negative in such a public way and ignore the positive? What exactly is the goal here? It makes me feel awkward reading this and doesn't really reflect well on you. Your casting was fine, always things to learn, but I don't see what this blog is supposed to be doing.
1) Love Hero 2) Liked the casting 3) Liked the games 4) Liked the writing style of this post 5) Do not think anything will come out of the post. The trolls will always be in the chat. I hope esports is strong enough to keep great tournaments like this one from going away.
The OP's post was pretty hilarious. His sarcasm is right on point.
Though, I think the OP should probably get a little less upset at what random people say to him in a stream chat. The internet is full of people who like to complain. That's just how it's gonna be. Some people even complain about Day[9] >.>
casters complain about retarded viewers who have no idea what they are talking about - caster is 'whiny' and needs to toughen up
casters don't say shit while retarded viewers shit talk their quality of commentating - caster gets bitched at, endless bandwagoning of stupid opinions
