So, I recently started playing one of my favourite games for the N64. Ogre Battle 64 : Person of Lordly Caliber. I spent the last few days pouring around 40 hours into it to only restart it again today, why?
Well, I'm going to change the name of every character around to my twitter friends/SC2 people and give myself more of a challenge playing it.
All the various characters in OB64
I'll be doing this Nuzlocke style wherein if a character dies, they're dead. Though it's a little different in OB64 in that you get a Zombie (If they're not main characters) so I can build off of that. Also, each unit cannot have two of the same characters in it (minus the early game which forces it upon me). No stat modifiers can be used and I'm not allowed to dupe items.
So there's some of the rules, and now the fun part of all of this. Besides main characters I can change the name of literally everyone in the game in my batallion. So, as of right now I have a CheckSix group lead by KeyHunt (He's choosing everything for this via skype). Evil Geniuses lead by SirScoots, R1CH is leading a party as well.
So right now it stands as. (Click to see what each team's items/stats are)
Me! - Micro (Magnus), Vincere (Berserker), Ninja, Cleric, Witch Check Six - KeyHunt (Beserker), ThisIsJimmy (Wizard), Maker (Sorceress), PainUser (Cleric), Mystik (Fighter) Evil Geniuses - SirScoots (Beast Tamer), DeMusliM (Wizard), iNcontroL (Golem), HuK (Cleric) Slayers - Boxer (Fencer), MMA (Knight), Eve (Archer), Cella (Cleric) TL - R1CH (Wizard), Tyler (Berserker), Ret (Wyrm), Sheth (Sorceress) Kikka - Kikka (Sorceress), Bomber (Amazon), KiwiKaki (Knight), Sean (Fighter), ~
Character Screenshots after each scene
Latest Screenshot
If anyone else wants a team let me know! I can have up to 10 on the field at a time, and they consist of 5 members unless a Golem/Beast/Dragon is in the party (they take up 2 spaces instead of 1).
I'll be updating this as I go along, so hopefully there's some interest in this =]

You should put me in as something as random as possible

That looks like a cool game, I never even knew it existed.

Makes me cry. My 64 controller broke when I was about 90% done with that game. I played it off and on for years and it is so long ago that I'm not sure it is worth finishing.

It seems like with everything thats on VC buying a Wii just for VC would be well worth it o.o

Ogre Battle 64 is 100% legit. It's been so long though I can't think of many classes right now. Hm... I always fielded at least 1 Quetzalcoatl for dat paralysis

Brilliant game. I actually just played through the SNES version not long ago.

Ogre Battle 64 is IMO the best game on the N64. Its my favorite SRPG of all time, I played the shit out of that game! I really should replay it sometime.
lol I remember I had a party consisting of ALL the Zenobians (Destin and co), and they would annihilate any enemy group they encountered, no exception. Other than I guess the main boss.
|
Oh shit, you just made me want to play it T.T
|
Get me a party for the knight group, if you have one. Paladins are pure awesome!

Did you get the zenobians on your own or were you a total failure newb like me who had to look it up online? Also, + Show Spoiler + I heard there's a "bad route" where if your chaos factor is low enough, the zenobians will not only refuse to join your party as you encounter them in your adventure, but they'll also take place as the last enemies after the original final boss (forget her name).
Another side note I remember reading is that there's a way you'll lose dio and have to fight him as boss down the road if you make a couple key wrong decisions.
Ogre Battle is completely legit, does anyone know if there's a decent emulator/rom for it out there?

+ Show Spoiler +iirc all you have to do is fight dio right at the start of the game and he'll eventually leave, and the zenobians won't join you either. I don't recall the details, I never tried it, because why would anyone want to lose Dio and the Zenobians

Most fun unit is using double Witches. Put 3 damage-dealers up front. Takes a hilariously long time to kill anything but the fact that nothing can attack you back is highly amusing imoimo.

In chapter 1 now! No point in a picture update, no changes quite yet.

+ Show Spoiler +But yeah, if you have the lowest Chaos Frame, the Zenobians will try and kill you after the "final" stage, because you are so evil. Also, you need to have pretty high Chaos Frame to get them to join.
One of the hardest things about this game was keeping a Neutral aligned team. My guys would always either spiral to really lawful or really chaotic, so it was hard keeping things in the middle for liberations. I wish there was an easier way to manage stuff like that, because it felt kinda arbitrary at times.

man i started an restarted this game every summer once like 5 summers in a row until i finally beat it a few years back. AWESOME game. Though I got the shittiest ending ever :/

Easiest way I found was to try to keep a group dedicated to it. If they got to high, set the attack to target Weakest as that slowly lowers Ali.. Same with attacking groups that we're based around Virtue instead of Bane.

Yea I loved all the Ogre battle/Tactics Ogre games... and yes trying to keep shit aligned was the most frustrating thing ever.... but in a way it made it more interesting, as you couldn't just a-move a super group to victory, and you had to try and balance a lot of little factors to get all the easter eggs ect, which was pretty nifty when you got time to kill as a kid/teenager.
It's also to note that the guys that worked on this series also worked on the more popular FFTactics, and as we've seen, a lot of fantasy-wardrama-tactical-rpgness ensued.

I'll be a lich in a lich,princess,lich/werewolf,werewolf squad. Not imbalanced at all. (Hoping N64 one is similar enough to PSX )

Update!
Just beat Zenobian Border (did it before Mylesia as I want the bad ending._.). Did a lot of training recently so it was worth putting a new upload. I try to keep all my teams near the same level, but it can be tough.

I have this game on the n64, bought it a few years back for a pretty hefty price but it's totally worth it. Definitely one of the best games of that era and arguably one of the best tactics games of all time.

I would have my vanguard troops target leader (which basically neutralized any enemy group in our way), and then have the rest go on mop-up duty. But even the mop-up guys eventually had alignment issues. Seems like eventually I just had 1 group that was still chaotic aligned, and I just never used them in combat again, and just used them for liberation. Somehow I finished that playthrough with the 2nd highest Chaos Frame ending (which was what I was targeting), but still it took a while playing like that.

ogre battle 64, game is so good, Love raising me some dragons
|
But I'm one of those jackasses who couldn't handle playing that because of the juice/water stain on the front of it. The only N64 game I have that isn't mint looking is Wayne Gretsky's 3D hockey. That's because my buddy and I got drunk and bought it one time.
|
My copy of Ogre Battle 64 looks like crap. I managed to get it used, cheap, at blockbuster like a million years ago.
|
Well, Dio has now left my army (I never fought with him anyway, fuck that guy!) and I just did my first mission as apart of the Revolutionary Army. Almost all of my teams have a full setup now, with only 1 of each type allowed in a team. (Once I get higher level, I'm going to make it even tougher for myself.. like specific elements to a group only). I'll post some new stats on all the characters here shortly =]
Still stands, anyone want to join my army?

You can put me in as like a Knight, or a Phalanx, or something, if you want. Would be interesting to see if I survive if you aren't planning on reviving people. God help the people you send up against Cockatrices and back-row Pumpkin Heads lol

I usually end up putting one in my main team, but with them dying a lot I may not be able to this time around.
Also, updated the OP with pictures to show what each team currently is (didn't add Leia, as she's standard).

I love this game! I actually was playing it about a month or two ago :D It is honestly a blast. GL with your play through.

I've done challenges for this game before, like female only or male only.. but I think this will be my hardest run through. Also I love how this game still stands the test of time, because of the style it is.

The second siege on Mylesia has begun! I've added a new team to the the ranks as I had left over people from new specials joining me. R1CH is currently leading my strongest team, but SirScoots with the Golem up front is pretty beefy too!
