I'm not one to get rid of furniture if it still maintains its uses. In fact, this sort of thought has run through my family for generations. My father still has his mother's old couch, showing its age of at least 40-years old. I still have his office chairs back when he did his cardiology in Jersey, a good 15 years of age.
Shit, when we moved out of our house, my mother took all her marble flooring with her and the fridge (mind you, the fridge is taller than me and I'm 5 foot 11 about). I still have my television that's about the same age as myself (22). So yeah, I've never bought new furniture in my life. My parents have on occasion, my mother especially with her hobby of renovating a house from inside and out.
I'm currently sitting on a 35+year old chair that my grand-father used during his practice in Long Island, New York (pediatrician in Egypt, psychologist when he immigrated here during the war). Not going to say I had times with this chair, I just don't know what to look for in a chair or where exactly. Right off the bat, I've already checked Staples and Ikea for proper chairs and I can't find one that's proper and within my price range (150 max, including delivery).
Any suggestions? All the chairs I see have this stupid idea that shorter arms equals better or more comfortable. I like my chairs with long arms to rest my forearm on and doesn't entirely tuck under the desk (desk is about 3-3.5 feet high). I'd thought about texture and I'm not sure if I want leather. I'm on a leather chair now and it makes my back sweat and it eventually deteriorates.
Really looking for something comfortable, adjustable, long arms and that's really it. I'm not picky as hell, but I don't know where to look nor how to properly assess a chair.
Any suggestions? Where to look, how to determine a good chair, etc?
(I just realized that the sub-forum side-bar cuts off at "farewell", that can't be a good sign...)
for the record, I've been to three Staples and one Ikea store here in Montreal, got nothing
My chair is terrible as well. I have always had terrible luck, and I can never seem to find a good spot where I can comfortably play. No suggestions, but if you find a good one that isn't too expensive, please tell me. Maybe you can get a PCbang one online, not sure.
My chair was 60$ on sale from staples and it looks about the same as that one. I'm not sure why you are having such a hard time :/ It has nice long arms too.

Model #, name? something?
I've been to three Staples within this city and one Ikea that was way out there.
Couldn't find a single chair similar to this, they were either too low or the arms were stupidly curved down and stubby.
Just wondering, and dont take it offensively, are you a heavy-set guy torte? If so those piston-like hydraulic chairs made cheaply from china would be a very bad option.
Also, Invite your viewers on your stream to play 4's with ya every once in awhile, its fun watching ya play yo.

I'm underweight actually. I've been trying to learn Terran and getting extremely frustrated. Can't even beat Silver players, I'm just so terrible u_______u

<3 Idk honestly, i havent found a single chair since mine eventaully bit the dust. It seems like all older chairs 12+ years and older were much better made than anything nowadays. I wouldnt suggest staples since the chairs they have are all china-made/quality.
or you could sit on a metal folding chair like i do ._.
Nah, I need a comfy chair that I can rest my arms on. Every hour or so, one side of me is warm and the other one feels sore or like blood is draining because it isn't supported @_@
I notice in the last picture that there is a knife close to your mouse. Is that for pain reinforcement when you lose to those said silver players as you try to teach yourself Terran??
Once again please don't take any offense. I <3 you. Also so I contribute to this thread. I got my computer chair from a furniture store and it's made of leather. It's very comfy and adjustable except the arm rests aren't adjustable but I find if i just raise it to my desk height the arms of the chair are in the proper positions for my arms to rest on. I dunno if the have a Homemakers in Canada but I would check out your local furniture shop.

HAHAHAHAHA I JUST NOTICED THE STUPID KNIFE.
I have a knife there for two reasons: 1. I keep losing it and I only have two good knives less. 2. I like to eat those rolls of salami or bologna as a snack because I'm not allowed to drink soda or snack on candy. So it's just chips and cold cuts for me nowadays. It's hardly doing the job and I feel absolutely down without my soda (juice ain't cutting it at all).
Never heard of Homemakers, do you got a picture or at least the name of the chair?
This is so hard because people say they have nice chairs, but it's impossible to know what the chair is or its product name -__-;;

Maybe go visit a few furniture stores, target/staples. Take a few pictures within your budget and bring it here for a vote/poll? If you are that indecisive, that is. Also, i don't like the chair fontong suggestion, i see what you mean by armrests and that cully chair does curve down alot.

It's not in my original post, so I understand if it was missed (I'll add it in now). I tried all the chairs, they all fucking suck. You should see me, sitting like a dope for like 7 minutes adjusting the chair, trying it with different desks and checking the height of the thing with my measuring tape. I've never felt so silly. I even pretend I'm playing StarCraft just so I can get a better feel for it.
Torte man up and sit on a lawn chair with a 2x4 across the arms for your monitor and your mouse, and then your keyboard on your lap. Spending $150 on a chair? Geez.
Awesome: an ad about chairs and dogs with Elly the ESPORTS elephant in the background...

Doesn't even fit in my room lol! 150$ is too much? Thought chairs were generally pricy. All the ones I've seen are.
On November 06 2011 14:13 Snackysnacks wrote: Oh, didnt see that you actually tried a few places, i thought you just did a browsing glance and nothing more.
Even elly is warning you of shitty chairs, DONT THIS ELE!
Yeah, I didn't put it in the Op, I thought I did, but my bad ):
Curved arms. Why do they make them curve? It doesn't make sense to me, I use the arms to rest my arms on it while my hand is on the keyboard.
Why have it curved down and thus I need to keep my arm afloat more?
The industrial fan is because my room has no circulation and to keep my laptop from overheating if I ever game on it.
I need one of those. My Asus can legit burn the skin off of my legs when I'm using it in bed.
Why are you so god damn picky about chairs.
Did you not read my family's history with furniture? They don't get rid of anything. I have this dress that I've had since a kid that is sitting in my condo right now. The bed that is disassembled is maybe 15+ years old? Look works (sorta).
Once I get a chair, it's with me for years. I don't want one I'm going to hate forever and regret purchasing D: Plus, I do a lot of work at this desk, I don't want to be uncomfortable, exhausted earlier than usual because the stupid chair isn't right
On November 06 2011 14:28 Sprungjeezy wrote: See what you guys need is something to hold the laptop up so the fan underneath has more room to blow. Like an upside down footstool.
And I agree, you are picky and spoiled.
this is what I use for my laptop. Really useful and great.
I'm very picky yes, spoiled? I'm not sure how. It's my fucking money. It's my place, I don't want to buy something that isn't what I already know I like.

anybody check out the other miscellaneous items on his desk?
I see a knife, but nothing around to cut. I think I see the handle of a toothbrush. (clean teeth!)
In response to the thread: Aeron seems to be the buzz word among people getting chairs. If you keep this chair for 35+ years, it might be worth it. I don't know, I never sat in one, but I've only heard good things.

I explained the knife. It's because I keep losing my two best knives which I use to cut a lot of vegetables (I'm in a condo, so everything is about 2 feet from each other. I leave my room to the kitchen and I'll have my knife to cut veggies instead of checking 600 different empty drawers).
Toothbrush is for dusting my computer off. The room has no circulation (it's about 27 Celsius in here), so my comptuer gets dusty often.
I have my actual toothbrush by my bedside (to the right of the chair is my bed).
The Aero is a really comfortable chair, I just hate the arm rests.
In other news:
EXACTLY WHAT I WANT, BUT I CANT FIND IT ANYWHERE ;GIAPGPNHSHAESN

I feel... lost
I know, right? I'm never sure about my wants/needs in regards to anything in life. At least, not as sure as Torte is about the office chair he wants. O.o
Currently my dream chair. I am returning to school soon and since i am going into a field that requires a ton of sitting, i thought i would invest in the nicest chair i could find. Hoping to be able to save the funds for it by the summer of 2012 >.< assuming i dont find a better chair to buy other than this one by then.
But you are right the arm rests do look funky. I did sit in one once before, but i didnt really have time to fully test it out. I am sure by the time i have the funds i will be able to sit in one for a longer period of time. I know a couple ppl who own it at their office.
I currently use some $50 dollar chair from costco ive had for a couple years now. Works for now ^_^

I've had that chair for QA testing for some games from EA, Pandemic, etc. It is a very comfortable chair, but yeah, the arm rests are a big facto for me.
SteelSeries QcK Mini. Love that mousepad. I would suggest XS cargo, but unfortunately they don't have any stores in Quebec. If you're down for a drive to an Ontario location it's worth a shot. They have a website.

I want a new mousepad, this one is too small and it constantly slides around (believe it or not).
I don't trust Ebay and Craigslist because I don't trust strangers.
I believe you. I like my razer cloth mousepad a lot. I prefer to play games while sitting on my bed these days, and I'm surprised it works so well.
I only buy from sellers who have good ratings on ebay. I'm far more leery when buying things from c-list. After selling random shit through the years on both amazon and ebay, I know how it feels. Bad feedback kills you on those sites, so I always made sure to describe items accurately and ship promptly.
You can chill out. Ebay is fun and getting packages in the mail is one of my favorite things. So exciting!
It's pretty hilarious watching someone going through the same problem i had acouple of months ago and looking at all the same terrible chairs and desks i had to go through on the same sites :p. You'd really think there would be someone that sold decent innovative ones at a reasonable price but it's really difficult to find them. Infact it's near impossible. Every chair i came across was the same kind that i'd had for 10years and that you could buy from your local supermarket for £25. There's so much shit you have to work your way through -.-. Not to mention the dodgy websites.
In the end i went for this, i too wanted good arms but also wanted something comfortable to sit on that looked at least alittle different to what i'd had for years. Everything new seemed to be mesh -.- I liked the shape and headrest so went for it. It's been a decent chair so far and i have no complaints . Although i had to settle for pretty lame arms.
I hope you find the chair you're looking for because i know it gets pretty stressful after searching for hours and finding absolutely nothing worth parting with your money for.
My only tip would be, whatever you do. Check the legitimacy of the website you end up considering to order from if they are unknown to you. There's actually a fair few with pretty bad reviews.
