+ Show Spoiler +This is one of the most tense games I've ever watched live, Flying had no idea what hit him when those new units were freed.

Care to explain what the purpose for this wall is?
Ok now I saw it on Sayle's stream and now, in context of the entire game, it made sense that it was just a failure and not fully on purpose like the title suggests.

Do you an idea about those creep blocks back in Dota where chen and crew with Dominators control units and block the ramp with it and make 1 big push after 10 minutes or so? yeah .... that happened LOL
5 STARS

+ Show Spoiler +he made a mistake by leaving the drones at the ramp. this blocked the units from 2 hatcheries for about 5 minutes or so, leaving a ton of units that could not move to the rally. jd was basically holding off the attacks with his small army while the rest of it was left blocked.

He didn't notice it until it became really big. He was constantly attacked from different angles by Flying and still Jaedong held it together with almost half of his units being stuck on that ramp, being useless. LOL
|
lol am i being trolled? how can people not understand whats going on.
|
People seem to be so confused here and I don't know why nobody's giving a straight answer. It was obviously a messed up rally and Jaedong was on auto-pilot big time. The location was between bases and outside of his hotkey spots - plus apparently he didn't pay attention to that big hunk in his minimap. He simply didn't notice for a LONG time as I was at the edge of my desk freaking out, thinking about this would haunt him mentally for months if he ended up losing that game because of it. I was even thinking about how crazy it would be if he gg'd being unaware of this mistake.
This was not on purpose, nobody would park 4 drones for the lulz, what are you guys thinking x_x
Edit: Ok a few people explained while I was writing this

The reason why people are confused is because it's not that clear whether it was an accident on JD's part or if he did it intentionally. You could make an argument either way (even though only one is correct).
|
+ Show Spoiler +The drones were blocking the units from getting to their rally point outside the natural. Jaedong didn't realise as he was just macroing and dealing with harrass for 5 or so minutes. The units just kept building up and it's not like pros spend time looking at their own ramp in 4 base macro mode. His supply was also spread out defending at different spots on the map so he couldn't immediately tell his army was smaller than it should've been.
He was in tears after the game. I'm guessing his pride couldn't handle such a public mistake.
edit: people already explained. I was really worried he would gg without ever realising it.

That is pretty funny that it happened. Was this on television?

Yeah, I thought he was doing it on purpose, in which case it would make no sense to do that except to troll your opponent.

The best part was right after the army rolled out, there was doom zoom on Flying with the best "Oh Shit" face I've ever seen watching BW.
Also, i don't understand why anyone could think this was on purpose. If Jaedong just wanted to hold his army back, he would just have rallied them at the base of the ramp.
|
how did the drones get there in the first place? I've also forgotten cuz I haven't BWed in so long, do they have to be on hold position in order for allied units to not get through?
|
Only Jaedong can mess something up so enormously and still win.

Reminds me of a game where flash accidently blocked some 4 or 6 tanks on... Andromeda? Flash lost tho, if i recall correctly

Such an amazing game!!! I can't believe JD held off attacks while making this mistake x.x
|
The reason why he had the Drones there in the first place on hold position was because
+ Show Spoiler + There was a lot of standard DT nonsense from the Protoss that game and he wanted to safeguard his tech structures in his main, so he put the Drones on hold position so that he'd have more time to spot the DTs on the minimap, should they have actually come through that ramp at any point in the game.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Is it some weird joke?
|
Safeguard being he didn't want Flying to scout his tech or kill drones with DTs, if you watch the vod you'll notice Flying tried to sneak some DTs into JD's base but couldn't get past the nat.
Still hilarious and awesome that JD defended with just ling lurker and had like at least 30 supply blocked there.

I still don't get it, why use drones to block, they can easily be one shot swiped by DTs which is the main purpose the DTs want to accomplish anyways. Why not block with hydras or at least the cheaper zerglings. Also why the hold position it makes no difference does it? Not to mention that since its drones there is no hold position unless you pair them with other units which like I said would have been a cheaper blocking alternative.

Actually, it's pretty counter-intuitive. The title suggests that JD did something really well (epic wall), when it's actually a failure. If this had been titled, Jaedong's blocked rally, then everyone would be ROFLing.

Omg the zoomk in was so funny. All the koreans are going AHHHHH in the background, they zoom in on him, and an extra 60 supply comes out of nowhere and starting killing his archons. Cant wait for the winners interview.

Oh god this just made me a fan of JD. The guy holds non-stop attack for like 5 minutes with a fraction of his army. I think this kind of thing can happen to anyone (the drones where there to block DTs early game I think), and he's such a macro beast, has this game so mapped out that he didn't even pass thought that particular area. Hilarious to watch live.
|
This seriously hurt so much to watch.
BTW, you spoiled set 3 and 4 for me since Jaedong did not play till set 5 and I saw this thread title on my way to the small VOD thread. Please use a more ambiguous title in the future (stars vs T8 spoilers) or something.
Most frightening thing about it was that if Jaedong had lost people would have been raising pitchforks about matchfixing (realistic or not given the situation..). I am really glad Jaedong still won, even tho you could tell he wasn't sure how to feel after it was done (do I get high fives for that?? I'm not sure..).
the drones where there to block DTs early game I think No... A DT would just kill them and keep walking. They were definitely left over from a rally point.

No, it makes no sense at all. I see both you and the other guy joined TL only after SC2 was released so you may not be aware of some of the differences in BW. When a DT kills a unit in one hit (drone or probe), there is no warning or notification whatsoever. So putting three drones on a ramp to be safe from DTs wouldn't do anything but allow a DT to get three extra drone kills without JD realizing it (it's not like he kept looking back at the ramp.. lol) before they get into the main.
|
he held positioned the drones earlier to prevent zealots from running into his main
|
Depot-Jeadong is just using his units a lit sparingly. Once the depot units are close to 100 supply => go for it.

That was such a frustrating game. I'm so glad that Jaedong was able to win and break his losing streak. The crowd was going nuts when Jaedong's army finally broke free. The look on Flying when he saw that army... LOL, it was the definite WTF moment. Jaedong was like 20 supply behind since taking some damage from early DT pressure, and it's amazing he was able to stay in game despite half of his army stuck in that choke.

Warning will say(if sound is on) : "Your units are under attack!" etc. Zerg has a slightly different announcement I believe, but you get the jist of it. Also, ROFL. Watched the "wtf" face 10 times :D Because if a DT kills someone in one hit technically that unit is not under attack, it is dead.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Is it some weird joke? whats there not to get. it makes perfect sense. Indeed if i dt 1 shots a drone how can that drone possibly have a chance to warn his buddies?

During his first-person view, which was shown twice during the match, I never saw him look at his ramp once, which suggests to me that it was accidental. I can't imagine why he would do that on purpose.

Nothing could have prepared me for the moment when Jaedong moved his drones and started streaming his entire army through. The crowd went absolutely ballistic.

but what I don't understand, after watching the YouTube clip- why was the camera on that drone wall the entire 2:50. I mean even when the spectator clicked on another part of the minimap it's still at the drone wall. dafuq? The places where the camera looked away were clearly edited out
Yeah, was that necessary? I think not..

So I just watched the vod, I don't really get why he had the drone wall, it's not like he did it early game or w.e, and there was detection and mass sunkens to the nats entrance, so it's not DT's... Unless there's something about the map I overlooked

i am absolutely sure it was a rallying mistake. maybe some units were moving in the way and the drones were blocked and stopped there.
|
that was so awesome haha, you will NEVER see that ever again. i can see why he is embarassed cause hes JD but the fact that we still won that game shows you how good he is ~_~

It was clearly a mistake.
The reason for it was that he made a muta/scourge switch to try and reduce the corsair numbers, and rallied them to his ramp to be safe. Then when he switched back to hydraurk/ling/defiler, he forgot about that rally and all he ended up blocking his own units. In the interview, he says that the reason he saw it was that he was approaching max supply but couldn't find any of his units, so he looked around and saw it xd

This is correct, I rewatched the game and the block happened immediately after the switch like you said.

No no, I mean, why make the wall in the first place. It's obvious that keeping it was a mistake, but he never really had enemy forces sneaking through that ramp... Edit: Oh derp, read the second next comment. Thanks :D

I watched this match with my brother and bet 1x fried chicken for Jaedong. At first, I thought JD was up to something but when the number of blocked creatures multiplied I began to scream bad words LOL

It looks worse because those units slowly build into a significant army, but since those attacks come reasonably quickly, he's really only missing a few units per wave.. And with a lot of AOE dmg going around, there's a decent chance that a reasonable number of those units simply die without much effect if they're mixed into the army... IMO anyway.
|
Hahahhahahahahahahhaha, this was the best game ever!
Jaedong is running like a clockwerk! He'll never suspect that anything is wrong, neither would he go look for any missing units like you and me, if he produced them, they have to be there somewhere!!!
I remember he made an annoyed face just momentarily after he released all of the units, any pic of that?

After the game...
Light: Oh. My. God. How'd you remake your army so fast? JD: *takes a puff from a cigar* Just trollin. Weren't you humiliated when I held you off without half my army? Light: Why, you little dick JD: Actually, I am the big Bad dong. Who just went out with Tossgirl.
