My 2nd chance in Korea
Hey guys, I figured now that I am back in Korea I want to try to give you somewhat regular updates on how it is going here for me and the other guys. I arrived in Korea exactly one week ago so this is a good time to recap for me. As I was saying a lot of times in various interview before, it is a big privilege that it is possible for me to be here in Korea and practice under the best conditions I ever had in my Life. My mindset changed a lot and I became a much more positive person over the past 2 years, but other than the change from my own side, I also don't have to live in a shared Korean team house with 15-20 housemates anymore but can enjoy life in our own apartment together with Jinro, Haypro, Hero, Supernova and Huk. Every single day here has been absolutely fantastic for me so far, I try to wake up between 7am to 9am (the Air is much better in morning and it is not so hot yet, perfect time to go for a walk) and have 3 x 3 hour blocks of practice throughout the day. I don't think my mind has been stronger or more free than right now and my body has never felt healthier. I've also been following an extremely healthy diet, as the past year I've started to believe in a healthy lifestyle being a base for optimizing my performance in SCII. in Korea I'm mostly eating kimchi, various meat, seafood, sugogi kimbab, jiggae, lots of vegetables fruits and egg as well some spicy Ramen fueling my body and always trying new dishes that I don't really know the names of yet to keep the variance. Also I have been doing some exercise every day since I arrived. On top of that I gained 2kg body weight over the past 2 weeks which I am pretty happy about because I am usually underweight.I should start going to the gym soon. Especially my back muscles need work to make up for all that sitting. Now that I am not jet lagged anymore and everything with the apartment is in apple-pie order I really don't have an excuse not to go anymore.
Every time I take a break from sc2 I already look forward to train more later in the day, when I wake up I am excited to learn new things and face harder opponents as I rise up in the Korean Ladder. It feels great to not live alone like I did in Sweden but with some of my best Friends, it got boring to eat alone and not have people to talk to in person. ^_^ In general there are just so many funny things happening here, that there is usually always something to laugh about. Like today when Jonathan told us that he went for a walk when some red sports car with a yellow flames paint-job stopped next to him and asked him where is he is from and that he should give the guy (between 35-40 and apparently working as an English professor at an University) his number so he can take ''you and your girlfriend for a ride sometime'' Jon was so startled by it that he actually gave him his number, now fearing to eventually get a booty call or something.
Over the past week I rediscovered the area in Incheon we live in, tried to capture a solar eclipse that sadly turned out to be very disappointing here. Finally made a dream come true and moved to our very own place in Korea enjoyed a ton of super delicious Korean food, got asked if I was a soldier after I told the doorman I am from Germany. (not sure where he was going with that...^^) and got my pictures take by a couple of random Korean girls who told me I am very handsome ^_^ Yesterday I Went to a photo shoot for GSTL with my team mates and I am super pumped for the upcoming GSTL matches, the next few days will be crucial to my performance so I gotta give it my all.
Most of all practiced more actively and structured than I have done over the past 2 years. I think I first had to learn how to train properly. Now that I am in Korea it is the first time playing SC2 actually feels like real proper training to me. My mind is focused on starcraft2 but not trapped in it, in the past I often made the mistake to make my life ONLY revolve around sc2 but nowadays I know better and won't let my sources of inspiration run dry. Some people say I am a intuitive creative mind and maybe they are right with that. I know one thing for sure I need to nourish my mind and have other things to do and think about than just the game, to allow my subconscious to process all the things I do while playing SC II. So it's good to wander with my conscious mind and let things rewire in my brain. Often you find solutions to hard problems best when you don't think about them.
here are some random pics of the area around here:

Good luck & Have Fun !!

Awesome stuff. Go go TLO!

I hope these weekly blogs become a tradition I'd like to hear more about HOW you practice, like laddering, playing versus team mates, devising strategies together, watching broadcasted matches with teammates, etc.
Best of luck over there, stay healthy physically and mentally.
|
Wow, TLO. You're quite the photographer.
|
I gave five stars before reading it because TLO, then I felt guilty and read it, then I wanted to give more stars but I had no stars to give. Reading this made me think of TLO as a nerdstomper Zen/Zerg Guru.

|
let us to be a source of inspiration to you

Seems like you found balance in a lot of aspects of your life. That's amazing.

5 stars for the last picture alone <3

GL TLO good on you for doing what makes you happy
|
A formidable blog entry I have to say. Since I`ve been in Korea 3 times so far you text makes me nostalgic (especially the food is so great and when I try to cook it at home it never really reaches the greatness it has like in a good Korean restaurant). One question though concerning your training regime. In your stream we see you purely laddering. Are there also a lot of inhouse related starcraft activities such as internal cgs or strategy discussions or is everyone doing mostly his thing?
Anyways goodluck and enjoy the time in Korea before the hot Summer is coming ;-) P.S.: From the description it seems like your daily schedule deviates significantly from the life of other Pros (waking up at 7, going to bed at midnight)
|
Really nice/good to see that you're enjoying your time over there much more this time.
Good luck for the coming season and happy days training!
|
Sick writing. Waiting for more of it

He didn't lived there long. He lived in oGsTL house, because there were people he liked. And now he still moves with his friends.

I have a question Dario, Taeja said in an interview some weeks back that he was planning to move in to the oGs house. But now oGs has disbanded, does that mean that he'll live with you guys?
I've understanded that he lives far away from Seoul, so getting to the GSTL might be a problem? (since he didn't play for SlayerS in the GSTL because of this reason).
|
I hope you will consider writing more of these in the future. Not necessarily every week, but just sometimes to give an update on what is going on.
|
Awesome read Dario! I look forward to seeing more updates in the future Also I would love to seem more pictures or video of the house itself!
Where is taeja staying since you didn't mention that he is at the TL house??
|
Nice blog TLO, keep em coming

Cool! Gl with your practice, you awesome beardless man.

Gratz TLO, im so jealous!

Awesome blog, glad to hear things are going well so far! Really looking forward to GSTL this season.

Good luck buddy, thanks for the blog.

That river reminds me of one of the Old Boy (show with Nal_rA) episodes. Is that the same place?
|
nice blog, does supernova just live with you guys or will he join liquid? And does Taeja live for his own? I know zenio prefed living for his own
|
Liquid's year buddy. Show everyone whatsup.
|
Nice write up! I really, really hope TL can do well in the GSTL. The team house is hopefully revitalizing for all of you guys and I think it must be great to have a balance of korean and foreign players in the same house.
|
Wow, this is so great to read and see the beautiful pictures, THANKS! And keep both the blogs and the hard training up, you have so many fans who support you and care about how you are doing. We've mostly never met you, you wouldn't recognize us in the street, but you mean something big and special to us, and you really matter, so be encouraged!
It's great to see the progaming life, I believe if I had chosen a different life path, my greatest goal would be to be to live life as you are doing right now. I went along a different road, but still kind of envy the possibility you have to be a realy ProGamer in Korea!
|
nice read Dario, seems you're enjoying a lot! Hope this will benefits you and that you gonna smash some nerds in GSTL
|
Wow, what a beautiful area!
I have to ask- any dates with cute Korean fangirls?
|
Sounds like you got everything in order TLO, that sounds like a formula that really can lead to success. Best of luck to all the guys in the Liquid house!
|
|
You could learn Korean to distract you from Starcraft. Useful and a challenge at the same time.
|
Nice one TLO. Good luck with GSTL!
|
|
those korean girls had it right
nice to hear you're well!
|
It is great seeing how healthy and positively you are living right now! It is an inspiration to your viewers and one of the many reasons why your stream is the 1st one I look for. Super excited to cheer on TL in the GSTL and I know you guys will show a lot of heart and great games.
Keep it up TLO!
|
awesome blog, really hope you guys enjoy your life over there. it always makes me happy to see you happy my friend

I'm really glad to see you getting so much more out of life! SC2 really has allowed you to do things that many people doing normal jobs want to do. You get to travel to various countries, you get to meet new people, hang out with your friends, try great food, and play video games all day! I'm proud of you :D

Also feel free to post pictures of Korean girls for me.

HuK had been living in the OGS house for over a year. He only stayed in the SlayerS house for about a month, then later moved back into the OGS house.

Fantastic read! Thanks for sharing and please do more. TLO fighting!

Nice blog, great read. Good luck in Korea and hopefully you will really start to shine over there.

That last picture of Jinro is oddly inspiring. :D
Have a blast in Korea TLO ^^. I believe you're gonna do great.

I maybe read 1 post a month on TL. And this was the best i've red so far. I've always thought of you as an underdog. Untill just last week when i reserched some of your old records in korea that i dident know about (came into the scen last summer). But after this post you did I feel super excited for you and hope you do very well. You have grown huge in my eyes and from now on i will cheer extra hard for you in GSL, GSTL, MLG and other foreign tournaments. I really hope that you are going to Dreamhack this summer would be super nice to meet you. Good luck in korea Beard man!!!<3

Nice blog, great to hear from you and that you're doing so well!

good thing you cut ur beard lololol

Thanks for the update, looking forward to the next. Hope you all take time to travel and see the country!

A plausible possibility that Supernova is joining TL? Living in same appartement, needs new team.
|
Hey! Wheres the pic of the Korean girls eh???
|
happy to see the liquids bros doing well in korea after the ogs disbanded. =D
|
Great blog TLO, sounds like your making the best of your time in Korea. Keep at it, and stay healthy!
|
Great blog, here's hoping to good starcraft and good improvement in all players, especially Jinro. I feel it is possible that without someone else to talk to in the oGs-TL house (don't attack me, the practice environment was probably one of the best) he just didn't adapt as well. Cheers and Liquid Fighting!
|
I can't wait to see some strong Liquid performances in GSTL Keep working hard TLO!
Also, those pics are very, very pretty :o
|
sounds nice. but you have to remove your terrible beard (if its still on)!
|
Jinro looks awesome on that last Pic :3 , can you show pics of the house you guys are staying?

TLO is so good at starcraft and handsome and awesome and strong and manly.

Fantastic read. Really glad to hear that you are enjoying Korea so much! Good luck in the GSTL as well

Fuckkkkk that park is so pretty.

Great job TLO, awesome to see you working hard and making the best of being in another Country. Best of luck to you in your future games and I hope you stick with it!
|
Can't wait to hear more about your inevitable progress over in Korea, good luck and as everyone else we want a video tour of the new house, from some of the pics that were tweeted it looks great and also it's great to hear supernova is there. He's not sharing a room with HuK by anychance is he?
|
Hope the new surroundings will inspire you all, and we will see you guys not only doing well in GSTL, but in GSL and foreign tournaments as well. Would be amazing if there were one or two announcements regarding the roster soon, seeing how things have been arranged. *wink*

Nice blog, could you elaborate on the last paragraph some more?
I assume Supernova is staying there because he knows you guys, and not because he's joining Liquid....right?

That third picture, are both those girls for you?
Would be surprised otherwise

I can't believe the progress you've made TLO. Its impressive. I can't wait to see how it all plays out in the future for you, I'll be cheering you the whole way.

TLO plays zerg now right? I wonder if it's true what they say, P = average person, Z= weird person, T= depressed person. Maybe that's why he feels so positive haha. GL in korea!

|
really good blog, really interesting! man i would like to be in Korea too!

You can easily determine that TLO is, in fact, not a woman as he does not appear in any of his pictures blocking 3/4 of the picture.
I was kind of hoping it would happen in at least 1 picture so I could make a joke but no go .
|
Go to the gym? Maaan, you are in the homeland of Tae-Kwon-Do, i wouldn't have difficulty in choosing what sport to do in SKorea.
Also, nice pics, and kick ass at GSTL.

Dario, if after a coupla months of kimchi you do get a craving for German-style food and/or German beer (or you want to show it to your fellow teammates), there is a small place called "Uncle Cho" (엉켈초) near subway station Yeongdeungpo-gu Office (영등포구청역, Exit 4, in side street 당산로32길, only four stops from GOM studio *wink*) that we found by accident while walking around. It's got a German flag on the front, you can order dark Köstritzer and other German and international beer brands there, and they have among other things a surprisingly delicious sausage meal (for 1 or 2 people): Various kinds of bratwurst- / weisswurst-style sausages chopped into pieces come piled up on a black iron pan with creamy mashed potatos on top under a metal lid. When served, the waitress takes off the lid, pours the slightly spicy, sizzling hot brown gravy on top of it and puts the lid back on to let it steam out and settle, after which it can be eaten with a fork or chopsticks. Really good.

I just thought "Uncle Cho" was adorable and the way they served that sausage meal was surprising and entertaining. And I've never seen dark Köstritzer beer outside of Germany, not to mention 9000km away in Asia of all places. I guess you could check both places then and tell us what you think.

Zenio was kicked out of oGs because of not living in the oGs team house, he chose to live outside of the team house because he couldn't live in a team house environment IIRC.

Great read TLO! The area looks beautiful! Good job in the qualifiers. You came so close. You'll get them next time. You're game has been improving greatly lately. I've always loved to watch your stream (even though I play terrran ) and I'm expecting you in Code S by the end of the year

Great read, Dario! Though it went unfortunate in the qual., your showing makes one excited to see the fruits of your stay. I hope you'll have a happy and successful time. If I may have a request, Nony did some vlogs a while ago and also Grubby has captured his thoughts during his stay in KR.
It would be great if you'd find time to consider doing a couple of clips- or maybe just showing a bit of the life of everyone in your new home

Liquid`Supernova would somehow be the least surprising surprise to ever occur. He'd fit in perfectly. If he isn't on the team already it's probably because it's expensive. So he may just join a foreign team. Quantic perhaps?

Damn Dario. Looks nice over there in Korea! Hope you'll have a good time!

I hope that, despite Liquid's less-than-desired performance in the GSTL, you and your fellows in the practice house are still happy and nourishing your minds! It seems like you're having a lot of fun, so keep it up =)
