When I started to follow SC2: Wings of Liberty, I was a sad Protoss fan, because Terran, back then, were definitely the most favored race. Against Protoss, their concussive shields, 70 dmg siege tanks, and easy nexus snipes were extremely frustrating to watch. Afterwards, there are some nerfs to the Terran and several minor buffs to the Protoss. However, when the Queen/Overlord/Infestor patch came in, Zerg definitely had the upper hand and forced Protoss to do more all-ins or pray for a lucky vortex.
In addition to the fact that Protoss had the least amount of GSL tournament wins in Wing of Liberty, seeing how many Protoss players use all-ins really hurts my heart. How can a honorable race rely on deceit and annoying tactics? Yes, there were some defensive macro players, but they were extremely rare at the time!
Now, Protoss has reigned supreme. Should I a Protoss fan be happy with that? But how can I be happy when I see how Protoss is extremely versatile with strong early game builds, strong defensive mechanics to help it survive mid-game, and a nearly unstoppable late game while other races do not enjoy the same benefits? Sure, it's nothing compared to the Brood Lord/Infestor times with boring turtle-style play or Terran supremacy with awful map pools. Regardless, it's hard seeing that match-ups with PvZ and PvT. PvZ, although hosting a variety of tactics, still shows how Zerg does not have a strong late game answer to the Protoss and can still fall to a Protoss all-in. PvT is similar to PvZ in terms of the match-up dynamic with Protoss having an arsenal of all-ins and powerful late-game while Terran has no viable all-ins or a strong late game composition, but the worse parts are that PvT compositions from WoL has not changed from PvT in HotS (with the exception of a Mothership Core) and Terran has to play much more reactive, leaving them with very little build order options.
Although it's easy to blame on Blizzard, it's not the right thing to do. I know how hard DK is trying to fix the imbalance and has given a lot of buffs to Terran, but it hasn't worked out! Also, unlike WoL, DK has shown a great amount of discretion and more openness towards community feedback. Regardless of the careful efforts, it's still burdensome that Protosses are winning nearly every tournament, insinuating that Protoss has an unfair advantage. It seems that fixes to these perceived imbalances are not coming fast enough.
Although I am pretty restive about Protoss's supremacy, suggestions to severely nerf Protoss are just as annoying because I feel that those people making those points have forgotten how a stale game can become with a series of nerfs. Instead, people should be finding ways to give other races more choices like giving them more drop options (overlord speed will automatically unlock overlord drop) or better late game compositions.
I want Protoss to win, but I also want other races to be just as versatile with a choice of all-ins and competitive late game compositions. After all, competitive victory can be fully cherished, if we feel that war was won without any inherent disadvantage to our foes.
I pray to Tassadar and Adun for the day when Protoss used to stand and fight for honor!
Fun Fact: Even I introduced my younger brother to Starcraft 2 in MLG Anaheim, and he mentioned how annoyed he was with Protoss's Force Fields and Storms. LOL
