gg
I'm sure we all know that these acronyms mean "good luck", "have fun", and "good game"; you're likely to see at least one of them in an average SC2 game. Possibly even in the lobby during the countdown if its a custom or arcade game.
In SC1/BW, every single game had a lobby. Even ladder games (which weren't as popular as custom games which is beside the point). A lot of people would use even this time to "warm-up" their APM by spamming their ritual 2-letter acronyms or something of that sort.
Over time, more ritual 2-letter acronyms started showing up. I would venture to guess that "gm" which stands for "good manners" was eventually the 4th most popular one. It wasn't uncommon for someone to say the whole "gl hf gg gm" before a game.
Some people took it even farther than that, and I remember my older sister being one of the first bunch (who I soon copied). We used three more ritual 2-letter acronyms she had learned: "dd" which means "don't die", "ka" which means "kick ass", and "ds" which means "don't suck".
The entire pre-game ritual went like this "gl hf gg gm dd ka ds". I don't remember if she did, but I would often try to spam it for warm-up and even an outlet for nerves I guess:
gl hf gg gm dd ka ds
gl hf gg gm dd ka ds
gl hf gg gm dd ka ds
etc.
I definitely did a lot of mistyping trying to spam it, lol.
Just musing
Anyone have any more ritual 2-letter acronyms they like(d) to use? Or even larger acronyms or whole words?
