I'm still writing my metal opera at this point. I've been on vacations all of June, but before I left I managed to finish writing the full score for 2 of the 12 tracks and disseminate them to the proper musicians. Now that I'm finally back, my goal is to get at least 8 done, and save the longest four (7, 8, 7 and 12 minutes) for either weekends during the autumn, or winter break.
Recordings take place all of school year, and then I can finish the production work and release the full album in May. It's a shaky plan but it's a good template for where I want to be.
The problem is, I love my opera, and I love writing music, and I've done everything I can to make these 12 tracks sound (at least in theory, we'll see how it sounds during the recording sessions) the best way possible, but everyone's patience has a breaking point. Here's an example:
Pick your favorite album. Now listen to it 10 times a day for the next 2 months. If you want, you can go track by track, and just listen to a single song from that album for a whole week. Better yet, find a raw demo of that track somewhere online, and listen to that instead. Find everything you can with that song that doesn't sound right. Make a list, and then go back and make sure you got everything. Eventually your brain will turn to mush, so go to sleep, wake up, and see if you can find anything new.
I have a good idea of the parts that make up the whole. For song X, I want riff Y, underscored by drum line Z, with violins/violas forming a Ф chord, etc. etc. leading into a solo by instrument Ю based around the note Σ. Note to self - send the player of Ю the score when done and see what he comes up with so you can base your own solo ص on it. The problem is balancing out the parts, how maybe everything sounds good on its own, and when I try to combine four of the lines, three of them sound good together and then whoops number four fucks everything up. And I still haven't added in the singers.
The point of all this is, while I'm trying to stack all of this stuff on top of itself, I'm still coming up with new musical ideas, and coming up with them fast. Especially during the periods of time where I have to listen to the same half-written song over and over for the whole day after I come home from work. If this project turns out to be financially successful, I already have pretty concrete plans for a second and third opera ready to be scored, and I've written the first and last song for a new, darker project.
So, I have a bunch of ideas I'm kicking around. Once I finish scoring, I might compile a fourth neoclassical album and finish it off while I'm sitting around in the recording studio and otherwise not using any creative power for the time being.
So now to the fun part. Here's two raw ideas I've had for the piano:
https://soundcloud.com/mikhail-garrievitch-soumar/in-the-arms-of-the-wailing-wind-demo In the Arms of the Wailing Wind - Melodies on top of melodies. Almost sounds like one of the dreamier songs off my last neoclassical effort. Which everyone should listen to.
https://soundcloud.com/mikhail-garrievitch-soumar/she-reeks-of-seduction-demo She Reeks of Seduction - Nice cathartic idea I had. Middle sounded empty so I added a third hand on top of it. But otherwise it's just a reflection of my favorite kind of jam session. Hammering octaves with the right hand, spamming arpeggios at lightspeed with the left, swaying back and forth like a drunk the whole way through.
Things are looking good. I feel rested now.

Wow... I'm sorry I never listened to your music before. You're actually really really good. Very impressive.

I admire your work ethic! How do you remain organised with so many different ideas cropping up? Do you just note down ideas you aren't able to work on, and come back to them later?
Good luck with your opera!

Good luck with your opera! I just earmark it in memory. If I forget it, I'll either remember it at some point or just come up with something new. If I forget the first idea, it was probably too forgettable to begin with.

Dude this sounds great! I kinda feel the same way about playing guitar (the remember if it's good and forget if not thing) but I'm obviously not on your level :D

This is pretty good and makes me wish I could actually play quickly enough to make something similar. >.<

I might start up a new project over the fall. I only have ~55 minutes left on my Soundcloud for more stuff (if I get rid of the demos and clean up some other things), and I'll need time to move everything to my Youtube repository, hype it back up for a few dozen extra views, etc. Usually 55 would be enough for a full-length for me (Nightlust was 54:20) but I want to shove in a 25-minute song which would constrain what I could do with the rest of the album. Either cut down the number of tracks, or shorten the songs, and neither option is one I like.
So in the meantime, instead of a fourth full-length album, I was thinking of doing something a little more StarCraft-centric, and write a few songs, at least one for each race, using both BW/SC2 motifs and some of my own, and do a revival of the BW soundtrack. I've been looking at the UED, the first/second Overmind, the Protoss journey/extinction, and I want to encapsulate some of those ideas. And then 3 10-minute songs instead of a 65-minute album means I don't have to move anything around on my soundcloud.

Nice job! Sounds pretty good actually.

Pretty much if it ain't on my soundcloud, it's on there.
I knew you were going to say something about the static <3 I tried a few things to get rid of it on the other one, but with the She Reeks of Seduction demo I just decided to slam it out without too much attention to detail. Whichever project I end up doing (SC or 4th album), I'll have everything at proper levels by then

I knew as soon as I clicked on this it was going to be good. Wish you were a Bernie supporter, could use your music for some videos lol.
