Intotherainbow- an influential protoss player in BW and played terran in SCII under HopeTorture. The guy who fought and lost to Fruitdealer in GSL Open Season 1 if that helps jog the memory of SCII fans. Liquipedia provides a lot of details on his BW background for anyone who is interested.
2Pacalypse- one of the programmers of shieldbattery who has given frequently to TL in the past and still is in the present. Also, was B in the past, plays protoss and is considered an expert in PvP warfare on hunters/BGH from what I hear.
Bigfan- myself, a D rank terran player who hasn't played a team game since 2000-01? My history only saw me play lots of vs AI games on fastest map possible after a very small and forgettable stint trying 1v1 and team games (hunters/BGH).
v1- an Estonian protoss player who claims that he was B in the old days. Also, the guy who gets bugged frequently by yours truly for cool gfx for all of the BW articles in recent years. Watch out for this guy!
bioboyAT- our foreigner zerg gosu player, a nickname given to him by Intotherainbow after bio fought extremely well against rainbow in ZvP and even took their last 1v1 game! Claims that he want B in the old days as well.
AllAndArITY- one of the players who joined our game for the evening. He played as zerg and seemed to have decent understanding of BW and how to play team games so I can only presume he was a valuable asset to his team.
Game ended up being a 3v3 on Hunters (see map above for spawn positions).
Having never played a team games in ages, I got a quick tip from the BGH expert to 2 rax. As we scouted around, it was revealed that both AllAndArITY and bioboyAT rolled zerg to which I was told to add a bunker asap. As shown below, all zergs opened with a pool gas while both the two protoss players went for a 2 gate. As the lone terran, I ended up opening with 2 rax and tried to add a bunker as soon as I was able to:
However, before my bunker was even halfway through, I was already confrontated with the possibility of an early exist as I found myself facing down a pack of zerglings sent by bioboyAT!
the little devils...
and the battle raged...
2Pacalypse- also found himself facing down both AllAndArITY and v1 on his own but managed to repel them with great zergling control and surrounds:
Eventually, we both cleaned up with minimal casualties and a ground splattered with the blood of our enemies.
Rainbow offered his support but it was a bit too late and he was left in a pristine situation, to macro up which came in quite handy later on. The best part about my own engagement wasn't even about surviving what seemed like a game-ending situation but rather getting praised for my great control by an ex-pro:
[Tuesday, April 18, 2017 8:09 PM] Lemmata: Bigfan's defense was praised lol
With momentum on our sides as our foes survived great losses, it was time to try and strike back. 2Pacalypse- tried for a zergling counter-attack on AllAndArITY but the possibility of a failed attack made him pull back:
With a timing window now open, our fearless leader Rainbow gave the go-ahead to attack bioboyAT:
Despite an overwhelming force, bioboyAT still survived with several drones but our mission was complete, disable a single enemy combatant.
With even more control of the situation, things kept getting worse for Team 2 as 2Pacalypse- found an opening and sniped the spire right before it was complete!
While the situation looked a bit dire for Team 2, no one can predict the future of such a dynamic game, especially when you are up against two zergs and all the while, a certain red protoss has been left to his own devices...
Stay tuned for part 2!
