I am looking for "chilling" music. Obviously what is chilling depends on your taste, so here are two songs I really find chilling, and hopefully someone will know songs that are similar
This song is a pure piano solo with synthesizers.
This song is a guitar ensemble with a strong bass line near the middle of the song.
I am also interested in songs and/or artists that fit the genre of the two songs below:
Problem is I don't really know the name of the genre the songs fit into. The closest match I could find was "ambient"? I call the genre "chill" personally, because after a hard day of work, I light up, and play these tracks, and feel the stress of everyday life evaporate.
The key components the song has to have are the slow, rhythmic bass line, and synthetic sounds in the background. Anything else goes. Nonsensical vocals, and/or a piano chord in the foreground is a big plus.
Thanks.
As a side note, your welcome to post other music you use to "chill" out on this thread. If not me, then someone else may enjoy it.
A lot of Godspeed you! Black Emperor and a Silver mt. Zion meets your request, although many find it depressing, and some of it has quite dramatic movements.
the first bit of a 20 minute song, really quite emotionally moving with an excellent little recording at the start. If you like this you should really download the album and listen to it through. Its a goddamn beautiful rollercoaster. (Album is 'lift you skinny fists like antennas to heaven,' btw)
Built then Burnt (Hurrah! hurrah!)
"This Gentle Hearts Like Shot Birds Fallen" is pretty well the most relaxing song I've ever heard, but I can't find it, I'd be glad to email it to you.
But, even with that said I still think the White Album and Sgt.Peppers are best relaxing music.
I'm not going to leave you a youtube link but you should check out a band called The Album Leaf. That sorta whole ambient electronic they used one of the songs on the OC.
Oh and one thing a friend recommended was pandora.com It's like you put in an artist or and it plays music of similar styles. I haven't used it much myself, but it's worth a shot.
Zero 7 - Simple Things is my favorite album of all time. It defines chill music for me with the smooth vocals plus excellent instrumental tracks. I've been listening to this album for years and its never gotten old. Its fantastic everytime. Out of Town is my favorite song by any group.
Red Dust is another great song.
I recommend this album to everyone i know.
I saw someone recommended Quicksand by Natalie Walker. I'm a huge fan of her. Her voice is incredible. My favorite song by her is actually a remix of Quicksand done by my second favorite group, Thievery Corporation. Check it out on her myspace page. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=47138948
Thievery Corporation has some really slick beats. They've done so many albums and compilations. My favorite albums/compilations done by them are The Mirror Conspiracy, The Richest Man in Babylon, DJ Kicks, and The Outernational Sound. I recommend all those. Here are a few of my favorites. Lebanese Blonde
Indra (starts around 0:20)
Giode for I and I (i can't find a link, but i love the bassline)
The two compilation albums, DJ Kicks and the Outernational Sound introduced me a ton of new artists as well. I found out about the group A Forest Might Black off the DJ Kicks album. Their album, Mellowdramatic contains some of my favorite downtempo jazz tracks Tides
Rebirth
Off The Outernational Sound, i found probably my 2nd favorite song, 3 Play it Cool by Crazy P.
Just to wrap it up, here's just a summary of my favorite chill groups.
