"Tons of Youtubers groveling over their every word, offering to marry them, and basically treat them like queens."
I think it's been proven time and time again that most people writing youtube comments are complete retards, especially those who compliments women in every video where there is one who is at least decent looking. It's not just about videogames, anime or other nerd culture, it's everywhere. I don't think many women want that kind of attention, or care about it really, since it's rarely directed toward them personally, just women in general.

No man read some comments on these girls videos. There's users who subscribe to them, and wait for their videos like it's a fucking treasure chest. They shoot one liners in their comments, and these girls check their comments so they SEE WHAT THEY ARE WRITING.
"You're gorgeous".
"Marry me please..."
"OMG MY DREAM GIRL LOLO LOL"
I'm pretty sure they like the attention especially since they look like they don't get attention from most guys they know in REAL LIFE, and so they bring it in to CYBER SPACE.

Come on, we can find better things to talk about than some attention whore is whoring for attention and people talking about her.
It's my blog, and when you come on it. You can either contribute to the discussion, or leave.
I don't really care what you do. This isn't GENERAL where material has to follow some logical guidelines.
I can post, and talk about anything I want(Minimal Guidelines). This post was more of a rant, with a mixture of conversation to the pot. If you don't wanna talk about it.
Don't post.

That reminds me when I would play Halo 3 with my friend on XBOX live. Whenever someone heard a girls voice either in the lobby before a game, or during a game, GUYS would go fucking crazy.
They would either
A. Deny that she was a girl, or say she was a 400 pound walrus. B. Go out of their way to kill her, and embarrass her. TBAG FTW C. Hit on her D. All the above.

Both.
A. Attention whores. B. Dumb cyberpunk people who give them attention.
You could say I'm giving them attention, but I feel I'm more addressing a problem in my eyes.

Yes yes yes I agree it's your blog and you can say whatever you want. I figured you would tolerate a similar degree of randomness in the reply, but apparently you had a problem with it, and I thought I might point out that my post wasn't as worthless as I thought you perceived it to be (relative to your own post).
More related to the OP: I've so far seen about 5 girls who play games seriously, and none of them were bitchy or whiny. They were very good teammates, but then again I don't choose teammates who aren't. Other than being female, they were not particularly special in any aspect, good or bad.
On the other hand, I've seen many females who will play games casually. I've seen no correlation between them and "bitchiness." Meh.
I love playing video games, but I don't really discuss it unless I'm with other people who are gamers. I'd never video blog about it on Youtube - doing that screams attention ho regardless of the subject matter (with certain exceptions like blogging your music etc.)
my sister's one of those girls that gets marriage proposals online. I figure video game playing guys are just desperate shits, and how the girls react is what you'd expect. It's disgusting, but I blame loser guys more than game playing girls.
I don't know why it is. I think it's just that most girls I meet are so timid and defeatist when it comes to any sort of refined skill, that I find it to be really admirable and attractive if a girl has the dedication and skill to excel at something I really respect.
I'm not sexist in anyway, but most the girls I meet fall into the common stereotypes of clumsy and dispassionate. For a girl to have the commitment and aspiration to succeed in competitive gaming, that's hot to me.
Attention whores who post youtube videos, jiggle their tits and cosplay their way to E-fame... Yeah, they piss me off too.
But that third video was actually fucking hilarious. She made me laugh quite a bit.
It doesn't bother me one bit if they just play games because they actually enjoy it, that shouldn't bother anyone, but it does bother me when it's so obvious that they're playing games just to get attention, that just screams desperate and pathetic.

Hey now, don't put everyone and everything under the label of one category. People are different as are individual experiences. Though I do think a mirror would suffice in most cases where people posts vids of themselves on youtube doing mundane things. At least do something noteworthy =P
Also, all of the gamer girls I've known have tended to be really weird people. I haven't met any girl who interacts wit people normally and it's like "btw, I'm a gamer"
It's always like "Can you tend to the incense while I set up Final fantasy?"

I understand your point, but I think you can convey it a bit better. The title is "Girls who play videogames" and the first thing you say is "piss me off." Then you say you are aren't sexist.
Let's compare that to another case. "Black people who play videogames piss me off." Is that racist? "Fat people who play videogames piss me off."
Unless you are confident that just about 100% of gamer girls are exactly as you describe, then it's a sexist comment. But it's pretty clear what you mean so I don't think anyone will get too offended.
I like that you spend most of the OP complaining about the people who create this ridiculous situation (the guys who get excited over girls on the internet) because that really is worth discussing... but just be clear that the only girls that give you a problem are the ones who intentionally attention whore. My sister is a gamer and actually took a game from me in tekken once, and yet she's never done any of this stupid stuff you've been criticizing! I think it's a smaller percentage than most people realize.
Girls playing video games isn't really an issue with me either. It could be a plus I guess but depending on their personality it could also be a major turnoff. If she is just an attention whore trying to get desperate guys to fawn over her because she finds something particularly attractive about the subculture then who wants that? I think that while having a girlfriend that plays video games can allot you to spend more time with each other because of common interests it could also develop a parasitic relationship if that is ALL you have in common. The same could be said for singers/actors/athletes who become interested in each other because of profession but then find out they have nothing in common.
Noone likes attention whores, male of female. Although I hate the drooling faggots who treat them like gods even more, that's just sad.
I know some girls who occassionally play games and aren't attention whores at all though, it's just that you never notice them while you notice the attention whores, so not really fair to judge all "gaming girls" like that.
Anyway just about everyone who spends a lot of time on the internet is somewhat crazy in my experience.

attention whores.
theres a great majority of girls who pretend to be guys or hide their genders online (especially when theres voice chat involved). so really there are more girls who play than people tend to realize. thus, with more girls, u get more variety, and unfortunately, there is also a great majority of the girls who get attention for being the 'unique' non-hiding gender type and revel in it because the stereotype enforces that these females are rare.

ok i read the thread. its the attention whoring that is annoying.
about the old jokes and such. ive dealt with this crap for too long i've pretty much given up and gone along with the stereotypes. i hit on girl gamers and ask for their pictures. i do keep saying girls dont exist in video games. i do these half-heartedly and i know most guys do too. when a guy hits on me i know there is nothing serious about it its just sort of automatic and instinctual because its sort of a learned behavior. kinda like when someone says whats up and you automatically say not much. or say good automatically when someone says how are you doing. when someone says im a girl, auto response is something like 'pics or u lie' or 'asl'.
it IS old. gamer girl as a topic is old. hitting on gamer girls is old. hating on those who hit on gamer girls is old. hitting on gamer girls to get hated on is old. hating on hitting on gamer girls to get hated on is old. but you know what, people just do. -_- why? maybe cuz they're bored. i dont like how i was drawn to this thread because it had 'gamer girl' in the title because those topics are old but i still went anyway even if i just saw the same old comments i always see. its kinda like those religion topics u cant help but join in even if there is no end to it.

lol. sctactics.. back in the old days when i first started getting into the admin/press side of starcraft.. that site was built out of ppl who were banned from sclegacy or something like that. it was formed without me but i was good friends with one of the guys and i became an admin along with another dude. but the dude turned out to be a douchebag powertripper who took over and made the site suck so i stopped supporting it. it was one of those things where a group was formed and i was an outsider and i never really fit in cuz they were all douchebags (except smaq). that site was nowhere near being built around me. i just know i used sctactics to get myself a press pass at wcg 04 and i told the officials that a bunch of my friends worked for the same site so they could get press passes as well.
Yea dude wtf, girls are fucking BAD at video games, any girl who really seems to be enjoying playing video games is faking it, and sucking at it at the same time. For some reason they just like the video game guys that go with 9no shit) video games...
Like when girls pretend to want to learn to play starcraft. They have no interest in it, its just for you .. Not to mention they cant possibly learn how to play it in less than 5 years.
I don't care except when you assume people are male and use the pronoun "he" and someone pipes up "I'M A GIRL YOU IDIOT!!" A simple "*she" would have sufficed, and why is it so important anyway?
I know plenty of girls who play video games... But not enough that play online video games to make me say "he or she" in game 50 million times when it's really not obvious either way... Maybe if your name wasn't DragonLord9000 I might think otherwise.

<3 i skimmed thru this blog too - i agree with ya on the attention whore thing. dont hate on the girls who love gaming but the ones who blatantly brag about it.
I play counter-strike (1.6 not the gay source version) sometimes with girls sometimes in our team of 5. Some of the ones I play with are very strong and are hilarious when they spazz out when they are getting owned 4vs1.
You know it really IS annoying when some "girl" (who knows, it may be like another zia) just relentlessly advertises the fact that she(?) is a girl. Do black gamers call themselves "blackpanther" or "net-Jamal" or "nigg4" ? Hell no! Does every Asian make a reference to that he is asian in his name? No! In fact, when you consider the Asians who are over 12-13 you will find virtually no "vietkilla"s or "aznboi"s. But with "girls" it's often a name containing sexual references (in both meanings of the word) and it doesn't stop there! They may further inform you that you got beaten by a girl or that you should go easy on them because they're a girl.
Why do they do this? Hell if I know. But it sure makes me suspect that I'm actually dealing with a guy posing as a girl. On the other hand though, I don't care. Much like many other gamers, I play games to have fun and compete; neither of these requires knowing anybody's sex.

I am closed ; > I had an account on sctactics, but never posted there, I dont remember why, but I considered that forum sucky. I think I considered it even worse than warboards.org for some reason. I knew some of the people there though - mostly beause they used to hang out in #blizzforums. I am really grateful for the fact that they allowed me to host some starcraft related files on their server - I nearly killed it, when I used like 20gb of their 25gb limit in 1 day.
Ah the old days. What a pity that everyone is smurfing now; hard to recognize all the people, since most of them got banned. Or maybe Im getting too old and just left, like thefazant (pfff here or something like that; actually I never managed to check if he left or got banned). + Show Spoiler +
Teamliquid should have an official name swap day; change the displayed names to the names of beverly hills characters and hide the post counters - especially of mods and their friends; wonder how fast would they get banned? On the other hand, some people who like to ban others seem to never post anything at all (cow, twisted), so it would not solve the problem. I have this theory that after 2000 posts one either WILL get banned or has to join the staff. Also joining the secret forum is a great post-count boost with all the triple posts; the spammers want to evolve to the 2nd tier forum...

same here, kind of. i don't mind when girls play video games, i generally encourage them to do so. it is just the ones who do it purely for attention that piss me off. like when i played wow for example there was this "girl" (obviously a guy) who got all the fuckin loots and everything and ppl constantly sucked up to "her" it was so dumb. how do i know it was a guy? she claimed to be fucking mute. nope, you're not a girl you're a guy who wants attention, loots, and free gold.

They're mostly mediocre gamers that play games that no one cares about. The ones that got paid to cast at Blizzcon should've turned it down because they had no business wasting everyone's time with that garbage.
Here's the thing. I know it's about entertainment more than competition. There's several dozen teams in the world that are better at CS than SK girls/gx3 and I actually agree that if they bring in more viewers/fans, they should get paid more. However I take issue with them sitting back and continuing to be just grrl gamers instead of actually trying to prove they're good. They're satisfied with being the best female players instead of actually being the best players, which is ludicrous considering there's no biological advantage for playing video games like there is for basketball or tennis.
Hell, Tossgirl still tries to play in men's leagues even if she isn't good enough. I have yet to see any proof that the Frag Dolls are good at gaming at all, and I've never seen SK.girls take part in a real competition. I scrimmed gx3 several times back in the day and they were mostly 13-1 blowouts. Calling SK.girls or PMS professional gamers is like calling the Harlem Globetrotters professional basketball players.
EDIT: And it is partially about jealousy. I think we have every reason to be, when someone less talented gets a free ride and doesn't put it to good use.

*shrugs* I actually think there are as many if not more guys that are attention whoring online. Only that the girls are soooooo much more succesful because well, they are girls. Guys that want to attention whore generally has to resort to trolling forums or some shit, girls just need to say "i'm a girl". My point I guess is, girl attention whores are waaay less disturbing and bothersome than guy ones =p

I noticed I was getting a lot of clicks on one of my videos from this site, so I thought I'd check it out.
I have to say, the reactions in here aren't much different from others around the net (So I'm not particularily offended). Generally speaking, you're a gamer-girl hater or a gamer-girl obsesser. God forbid people watch my shows and judge me for what I'm saying or doing, as opposed to whether or not I'm a whore. Quite frankly, most of the sites I join, I tend to pretend I'm a guy. As a girl on a game site, for being friendly, I'm considered a whore. For talking about games, all I'm doing is looking for attention. And if I don't talk about games, all I am is some stupid internet chick.
Look, I enjoy video games. I'm a nerd. I cosplay. I go to anime conventions, I hang out in front of gamestop for midnight launches, I collect old classics on my NES and SNES. I'm not a whore at all; in fact, I haven't had a boyfriend in years. Nor am I looking for one.
I'm sorry that you don't like the attention that I get for my lame videos; quite frankly, I don't know why I get it either. But be aware that just because some stupid nerds decide to obsess over me for some reason other than my personality, doesn't mean it's my fault. And it certainly doesn't mean I'm a whore.

Considering the fact that you mentioned cosplay I'm going ahead, and going with the fact you're #1 out of the top 3 videos.
I started this discussion, and I'm clearly going to defend my fellow patriarchs who I consider brothers in a sense!
OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay let's start. I just needed that to pump me up.
You enjoy games? Who doesn't games are great. I'm not going to argue about the ideology that video games belong to us, fellow men, because I can't. That would be sexist, and I'm not sexist.
However, I have a problem with the way you portray yourself, and the way you go about what you are doing. If you don't like the negative attention why the hell do you make videos? I mean there's really no reason for you to make those horrible v logs/journal videos.
You could say that you do it as more of a blog/self analysis sort of thing, but you can easily write in a journal/online blog/ or even put your videos as private, and only share with your friends.
That would stop the supposedly nerdy internet boys from mildly obsessing over you, and solve your problem.
The fact that you make these silly videos where you barely say anything worthwhile. You even dress up in your videos like you're going to impress some boy after school. I think you know what you're doing, but instead you deny it solely to avoid being labeled, and critiqued.
I think you like the attention, what girl wouldn't want attention. Especially coming from the opposite sex.
You can easily avoid everything you're talking about.
As for the fact that we are hating/bashing..
Get used to it, because we have the right to say whatever the hell we want to a certain extent. It's called the freedom of speech, and I actually think it's hypocritical that women can call men dogs, but we can't call women attention whores.
I'm not trying to say I'm putting you down, but what doesn't entitle me to talk about my opinion when feminists can easily talk about males in the same retrospect.
I've met a lot of girl gamers, and none of them have ever carried themselves like you do. They don't dress up, and they don't like the attention.
Oh, and we didn't call you a actual whore we called you a attention whore. Someone who plays of their sexuality just to receive attention.
That's my 2 cents, so in laymen s terms.
You don't want bad attention, don't make japawese weebo videos, because as long as you do be prepared to have internet creeps coming at you, and people criticizing you.
You should also understand that this is a competitive gaming site full of fairly normal people. If a guy showed off his cosplaying or did the whole japawhese crap, we'd make fun of him for being a fucking idiot as well. Same goes if he Same goes for shitty games that take little skill.
thing is, I do like the attention, I didn't deny that. Honest to god though, I don't do things for the attention. I do things the same as plenty of gamer-guys and it just happens to appeal to a wider audience.
I don't "dress up" in my videos. Anything I was wearing in there was what I was wearing that day. Dressed as link? That was from halloween. Tales of Symphonia character? That was the da of coming back from Connecticon. I don't go dress as random fvideo game characters fir the hell of it or for the attention, I wear the costumes to conventions, Apparently you're not clear on how these things work, but virtually everyone dresses up, so it's nothing special for me to be on costume.
One of my passions is video gaming and another is cosplay. It's just how i work babe, and yes, i get more attention than I would if I was a guy, but meh. My point is, and was all along, thatb you can't call the girl stupid because a bunch of stupid teenagers are obsessing over her. I did nothing.
...By the way, asking why I make videos on youtube? What kind of a question is that? Why does anyone make videos on youtube?
why does anyone give a shit about this? who cares if some nerd makes a bunch of youtube videos? who cares what gender that nerd is? if this was made outside the blog section it'd be closed immediately. there is absolutely no place for the "girl gamers" stigma on teamliquid, nor is there a place for alleged "girl gamers" signing up to defend themselves
to ninty: i don't know why the fuck you felt it was necessary to sign up and respond to these retards. this is a starcraft site. if you like starcraft, welcome to teamliquid.net. if you just signed up to respond to what some fucking moron has to say about your unsightly gash, get the fuck off this site and never come back

First of all. Don't call me cute, or babe.
I'm not your little puppy, your boyfriend, or any other drooling guy that may like you.
I don't even find you remotely attractive, or cool.
You remind me of a Japawese girl who I used to go to high school with.
She would go around during her lunch period screaming " Kawaii" and asking people if they had pocky. She would dye her fair every other day, and I found it remotely uninteresting, and a disgusting notion for attention especially from the typical black anime/manga fans who were so drawn to her..
However, that note was irrelevant.
I don't think you got the idea of what I was talking about. [QUOTE]On August 15 2008 10:18 Ninty wrote: I did nothing.
Correction you do things. Like I said you openly put yourself out there for those drooling teenagers, and you accepting the fact that you like the attention doesn't help your case here.
So you wear what you were currently wearing that day in your videos? I don't think so. Who would want to wear that costume any longer than you'd have too. I don't think it would be to uncomfortable especially when you're trying to focus on filming, and editing a video may I add.
I didn't ask you to stop making videos. I told you to stop making horrible, ridiculous, and uninteresting videos. It's clear you make them for attention. Anyone can see that, and if you try to argue otherwise, it won't matter.
It also wasn't a cute rant, it was my fucking note to girls like you.
If you don't want the attention, just stay CLEAR FROM IT.
I'm not even bothering anymore with this. I have better things to do, and it's getting arbitrary.

Dude!
I am so out of your fan club.
I agree though, I made this blog as a simple thought I had about certain female gamers, but now like I said it's arbitrary.

You can delete the blog. I don't mind.
i said 'outside of the blog section it'd be closed immediately'. you can post whatever opinion you want in your own blog as long as it isn't super racist or something
