Winning first place twice and second place once out of 3 consecutive World Cyber Games National Qualification rounds in Vietnam, it's none other than Le Thanh Ha aka proA.Thuoclao. He has just defended his champion title at World Cyber Games VN 2008 in Starcraft:Broodwar.
Although proA.Thuoclao had the advantage to skip the preliminary round, there were only a few people who believed that he could win the champion title again in this year. At this time, all the attention was drawn to his teammate, proA.NextTime. However, by advancing to the final without losing a single match, proA.Thuoclao has proved otherwise. After all, he is still a very scary opponent to play against. Let’s share the joy with him in an interview from ESVN:
Congratulation for successfully defending the champion title, what are you feeling right now?
- My feeling? It’s simple: I feel Awesome!
Out of three consecutive WCG’s, you have taken first place two times and second place one time. What is your secret?
- As opposed to what people might believe, I couldn’t devote much time in training like other gamers. However, I tried to put my concentration to the right moment in the right place. My goal is to aim for effectiveness in training method.
From now on, The greedy champion is the nickname that many gamers use to address you. What do you think about it?
- Part of the reasons why I could manage to finish the goal that I take is due to my greediness. Maybe in order to be champion, one has to be greedy. I’m starting to like this nickname! (*laugh*)

You defeated your teammate proA.NextTime 2-0 in the 3rd round of the Winner Bracket, what was that like?
- It was an uneasy feeling having to face my own teammate. But World Cyber Games is a big tournament and you have to give it your best once you are in. So in that match, I put aside my emotion, played seriously and won the match.
You didn’t have to play against your number one rivalry, Q9)AutumnWind, in the entire tournament.
- Q9)AutumnWind is a strong player. By not having to face him in the tournament, I’m not sure if that means I’m lucky or I’ve missed a chance to test out myself. Hopefully in the next tournament, which might be ELS Autumn, we could face each other in the final round and hopefully I’ll ... win again? (*laugh*)
In the match against Dream.SCVN, although leading by 1 game, you lost the first BO3. What was your thought at that moment?
- My head was empty after losing the first BO3, but after the match one of my teammates came over and told me not to think as if I have to win but instead just concentrate on giving a good match, I managed to pull myself together. With the support of my team I know I couldn’t lose. Also, in the next BO3 against him, I thought about my parents, about all the best things that could keep me calm and then I just concentrated on the monitor.
Do your parents know about the result? What do they think?
- After Dream.SCVN typed out GG, the first thing in my mind was to call my parents; both of them were surprised to know that I had won. Before I left, they didn’t think that I could win the champion title again because they knew how much time I had for training. From the sound of my mothers?voice I can feel that she’s very proud of me and that makes me happy.
What’s your thought on how WCG is organized this year?
- Aside from only playing BO1 in the Loser Bracket, I’m very happy about the tournament.
proA.Thuoclao and his first "SC Teacher" - proA.Prohand (the first one in Vietnam could reach A Rank in PGT ladder Server)
What’s your goal in the Grand final in Cologne, Germany this November?
- There is an old saying "noi truoc buoc khong qua" (meaning: if you say things you will get in advance, they won’t happen). I can only say that I will try my best.
This is the last question, do you want to thank anyone?
- I want to thank my teammates who were always by my side supporting, encouraging and cheering for me. I also want to thank my parents who gave me the opportunity to be here on this day. Thank you to Samsung, who has brought us the World Cyber Games, an awesome tournament for StarCraft players and in general, for all eSports gamers in Vietnam. Thank you all for everything.
the whole army of proA(rmy) in Ho Chi Minh City
btw, I was the girl holding the trophy in the picture. And besides Thuoclao's winning matches, we also got 2nd place in CS and 3rd place in SC (proA.NextTime)
Thank proA.Thuoclao for the interview and again congratulation for your champion title in StarCraft at WCG VN 08. Hope that, you will perform well in Cologne in November this year and bring back something to Vietnam. Best wishes to your health and successfulness in life.
