Just want to point out that I'm not doing ICCup for the points exclusively, but it is somewhat of a motivator for me, and therefore this bothers me a little.
As of now I'm D, with stats of 30-58. I know it's bad and all, but I wouldn't really be bothered by it if I didn't feel that I could be solidly D+ right now. My problem is that everytime I hit D+, I lose immediately and get knocked back down into the D ranks, usually to go on a 2-3 game losing streak afterward.
I believe this is a purely mental thing, because the majority of the D+ players that beat me don't completely overwhelm me, and I have beaten D+'s without difficulty before. My stats as D are 28-41, but my stats as D+ are 2-17. The difference of 300 or so points can't be so huge as to cause that much of a % difference, so that's why I think it's all in my head.
My question is pretty simple: How do you guys overcome whatever mental blocks you may have when playing SC?
edit: Of course there's always the option that I just plain and simply suck.

Push harder better faster stronger, because in the end it doesn't even matter. You can tell yourself that you tried so hard, and got so far just by pushing yourself. You have to let the game become a part of you, so it's no longer your deepest (subconscious) fear.

I have the same problem, I get D+, maybe win a game, then go back down to 1900-1950.
But I know I'm not D+ material yet.

Well, if you're losing straight-up, that means you're not D+ yet or you're just playing C-/C from previous seasons that are working their way up the ranks. Real D+ players aren't that much better than Ds. Generally, they play solid but aren't amazing.

I do this to some extent I guess, maybe not the game becoming me part.

Ehh, maybe I'm not either

Most of them are straight-up losses, though sometimes I'll go and check their profiles, and usually they were C/C- previous seasons. That's not to say I don't lose to actual D+'s.

I think its still too early in the season... but observe yourself as you play D+, do you automatically assume he's a much better player than you, or do you just take it as another player in the "D" level as you were playing before.

I think D+ are much better than D level players. I'm D+ most of the time but I hit 3000 before. But when I go through the D ranks at this point in the season, I'll only lose 1 or 2 games, depending how many gosu Ds I play.
|
@YPang - I play with the assumption that he's better, my rational being that he got D+ faster and therefore most likely better. I know this isn't a good way to think, it just comes naturally.
@TOP - Exactly how badly do you beat them? Is it at least somewhat of a close game?

Same thing happens to me.. I guess it just means we're not D+ material yet. Makes sense though because D+ is just a checkpoint. Your skill level is probably 1800-1900 which is why that keeps happening.

Oh well, hopefully by the end of the season we can manage it
It gets really annoying to keep getting knocked back down :/

If you have stats like that you are just losing to people who can macro a slight bit better. So improve your macro with a solid build and you'll roll over those D+ people. As far as the actual question of a mental block, it is a bit intimidating to be stepping up a level. But with anything else you just have to find a way that works for you to get psyched out and be confident you're going to win. Tell yourself that you're going to annihilate them (jaedong) and you may actually see it happening in real time.

its the same difference between NL 2 and NL 5
+ Show Spoiler + there is none, its the same shit

Forget about rank. Your goal is to get better.
You gotta go into every game with the mind to turn it into a rape. Not to get 100 points or whatever.

Alright thanks man, that's quality advice I'll see how it works out for me.

I know that ranks don't really matter, but nonetheless I can't help but care about it a little. And it does affect the quality of the people you play, "D+ python" will attract better players than "D python". And Oov quote ftw.

I think some D+ are overrated, I just played this D+ and he was weak

It happens to me too...except I'm a solid D player. I can run over D- and lower level Ds fairly easily, just I suck once I get to higher level D players and D+ players. The skill distribution isn't very solid, as you have better players who still haven't played up to their true ranks, and players who got fairly lucky and managed to win through several games, so are inflated.
Just take each game as it is...if you win, great; if you lose, you learn something.
