Why exactly do you see your height as a problem? I think it'd be better for you to learn to be comfortable in your own skin than to alter it. I have no medical background, but I'd say it's likely if you do anything like extreme stretching to make yourself taller, you'll be weakening your bones at the same time.

I love milk, and it's the only thing I drink other than water (unless I'm out drinking alcoholic beverages), if milk made you taller I'd be 7 ft. Milk is awesome. EDIT: From the previous thread: On August 04 2007 22:56 fusionsdf wrote: Genetic potential plus nutrition minus stressors is a basic formula. Genetically speaking, the heights of mother and son and of father and daughter correlate, suggesting that a short mother will more likely bear a shorter son, and tall fathers will have tall daughters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height#Determinants_of_growth_and_height Milk is no more important than other food with nutrients. Unless you severely neglect your diet, nutrition shouldnt really impact your height.

When you play something like basketball, you're constantly jumping and therefore stretching your spine and knees. Doing so causes your body to grow around these places. Read about this somewhere a while ago but cba to find source. There are many people that have grown 2-3 inches over the course of 1-2 years simply by stretching their spine ~10min a day.

How tall you grow is mainly a question of your genes. I take it you're not malnutritioned, so there's actually not much you can do. Get enough sleep (7+ h/night) and eat healthy, that's all you can do. Also, at your age you might have some growth spurts coming, so don't despair. What heritage do you have? Asian?

You should be aiming for about 3-4 serves of dairy per day to get ure calcium requirements. 250mls of milk is about 1 serve. On April 17 2009 13:47 FragKrag wrote: aside the point, isn't spinach better for calcium? The calcium in spinach is very difficult for your body to absorb. You therefore need to eat about 1kg of spinach to equal the calcium of 250mls of milk. So about 3-4kgs of spinach each day will give you your daily calcium requirements . Personally i'd go with the milk.

I do hope you are joking. Yes milk has a decent level of fat content, which is why you should go for the low-fat stuff if your worried about weight gain. But dairy still remains one of the most easily accessible sources of calcium there is.

Basically, stay healthy and you'll grow to your maximum potential On April 18 2009 15:18 Fen wrote: Ok, where do you propose getting your calcium from? On an average day, where do you get it? Thank you Wiki! "These include seaweeds such as kelp, wakame and hijiki; nuts and seeds (like almonds and sesame); blackstrap molasses; beans; oranges; figs; quinoa; amaranth; collard greens; okra; rutabaga; broccoli; dandelion leaves; kale; and fortified products such as orange juice and soy milk. (However, calcium fortified orange juice often contains vitamin D3 derived from lanolin, and is thus unacceptable for vegans.) An overlooked source of calcium is eggshell, which can be ground into a powder and mixed into food or a glass of water. Cultivated vegetables generally have less calcium than wild plants. The calcium content of most foods can be found in the USDA National Nutrient Database." Don't shut something down just because you don't like to hear it. Humans are the only beings that drink the milk of another animal, shouldn't that say anything? Plus we're the only ones to drink milk past infancy. We don't need milk -_-

Humans are the only beings that drink the milk of another animal, shouldn't that say anything? Plus we're the only ones to drink milk past infancy. We don't need milk -_- I didnt shut something down because I didnt like to hear it. I asked where he gets his calcium from. A simple question, because I want to debate this topic seeing as Ive studied it. I know fully well that milk isnt the only source of calcium, I didnt even need to wikipedia it to find out. Im arguing that milk is a very good source of calcium, and not something you should remove from your diet because its fattening. Most people do not get enough calcium in their diet (that includes most people who do drink milk). While it doesnt affect them too much in early life unless they are seriously deficient, later on, as your bone density drops, you will be much more likely to break bones which has a habit of leading to complications that cause death. Lets look at your list. Seaweeds - yes, high in calcium, However to get your 1000mg per day, thats about 600 grams of seaweed. Nuts - yes, high in calcium, 400grams of nuts per day for your calcium needs Leafy vegetables - relatively high in calcium, but it is very hard for the body to absorb. A cup of brocolli might provide 30mg of calcium (33 cups of broccoli anyone?) Fortified OJ - Contains about 80mg per 100mls. 1.25L per day for ure calcium needs. Sure, milk isnt the only source of calcium, no-ones debating that but you. What Im debating is that milk is the most available source of calcium and is one of the best ways to get your daily calcium needs. Because I dont see too many people eating 600grams of seaweed each day.

I don't know if any of those are facts but I do eat a lot. As a disadvantage, it's probably more expensive in the long run. However, I really enjoy eating so I think being able to eat more is an advantage in that way.
