I know this is probably something a LOT of you know how to go about doing but I am internet illiterate for the most part (relative to the average person!).
Is there any helpful websites or something where you can monitor bands as they come through?
If someone is feeling especially generous I live in the Portland/Seattle area (can travel between the two).
ticketmaster etc.. seems to be pretty bad for searches of metal bands.
Here is an idea for what kind of bands I'd be interested in knowing about:
august burns red bleeding through protest the hero as I lay dying tool caliban my children my bride I killed the prom queen parkway drive all shall perish all that remains as blood runs black haste the day misery signals evergreen terrace etc
-sign up on last.fm and update some stuff. When you go you'll get concert recommendations -blabbermouth.com has lots of announcements: mostly for bigger stuff though. -metal-archives.com occasionally has a list of the concerts on a band's page. (only if you know what band you want) + links to buy tickets online
This is exactly what you need. You pick your locale, create an account, and insert a list of what bands you like. Then you can get notifications when they come to town (users/venues/site owners update the site's record of concerts, and it's really accurate).
I suppose the only problem you might have is that the site is near perfect for turning up even the most obscure indie shows, but I don't know whether there are many metalheads using it so it might not be so great with metal bands. But check it out for sure.
Well, although I'd debate putting many of those band's under the "metal" genre, I will say this, the best way to find concert dates nowadays is through MySpace.
zzangdreamjoy don't get all music elitist on me.. not the blog for it dude. I don't give a rats ass what you guys define em as.. you know damn it is fine for people to call these metal and know what I am talking about.
sorry to rant but the music threads on this forum are so fucking fucked sometimes I cannot help but to get raged.
haha falcynn u better have gotten your car smashed and both your legs sawed off PTH live was awesome i loved how everyone shat their pants when he started with his soprano voice
all that remains sucks though not because of their musical inclinations or even their recent album but THEY DIDNT GO TO HOUSTON, (canceled) I WAS SOO GOING. T________T
i know in flagstaff, where i live, there is a separate paper put out once a week with who's coming to town in the near future. usually it's like 3 weeks or more notice. this local paper is really on top of their game, and even the local underground bands use it sometimes.
i'm sure seattle should have something on par with this. i mean, if a city of 60k has one that's well run, seattle and portland should as well.
edit: or you can befriend some hipsters, they always know where the shows are at
Unless there's a guy who keeps track of that and blogs about it in your area, ticketmaster is probably your best bet.
Also, going to metal websites and just keeping track of your favorite bands. I check a bookmark list full of my favorite bands' myspaces now and then to check when they're touring. Also, sites like thegauntlet.com are good. Last.fm is good as well, but it can be inconsistent as it's up to users to keep tour information up to date.
Also the most tedious way would be to find all the venues in your area that commonly feature metal bands and to keep track of what shows they have up and coming.
1) get on myspace and search all the bands, they all have a long list of tour dates. especially the bands you listen too because theyre pretty main stream.
2) Know which venues are near you and how far you are willing to travel. your venues will definitly have a website and information on whos playing when
ABR has a show in spokane, Washington on may 4th. ive never even heard of spokane but maybe you have.
bleeding through is in europe for the next month
protest the hero has nothing in washington for the next month
as i lay dying is not coming to washington for several months
I can never find bands playing in my area. But then I went to this bands myspace after they released their new cd and saw their tour dates on it. I will be going to my first concert in June! It's also 19+! Fuck yeah!
Hardcore dancing is so lame...totally ruins the pit.
Everyone's having fun pushing each other around and then suddenly some little punkass kid in tight jeans comes along and starts playing ninja samurai...
Then the pit slows down to make room for the kid before he gets bowled over by drunk and angry bros.
