SO I was playing iccup after a hard day from school, just got back from playing badminton. Anger management level is pretty decent right now and i have things under control. i couldn't wait to get home to play some starcraft and then finish up my homework.
First you guys need to know how upset I can get from a simple game of badminton with my friends. If I can't return it, I miss it accidentally, or do some stupid thing, I will swear quietly, yell out a random word to replace the swear word, or cut myself inside mentally for letting that slip past me.
Anyways as soon as I get home, I start playing starcraft. All of my games were on destination. The first was a PvP. The other guy hid his gateways in his base. I didn't see them at first so I thought he was proxying and reacted accordingly. He just hid 2 gateways in his main instead of proxying them and I stole his gas too so my dragoons easily stomped over him.
My second game was against a zerg on destination. The zerg player was doing a 5 pool rush and had sent out 1 drone early. I thought at first he was doing a 10 hatch build to stop my probe from pylon blocking his hatchery. Instead I saw the spawning pool and I started my forge asap. I got my cannons up and lost only 2-4 probes(can't remember). I was doing pretty well until I saw his drone eating away at my minerals. I remember making a thread about this earlier this month and everyone said it was pretty easy to glitch a probe through.
I take 2 probes and try to glitch them for 20-30 seconds. When I realize it's not as easy as it looks, I start buildilng a pylon but now zerglings are rushing into my base so i'm fucked. That really pissed me off and it took a couple minutes to calm down, gather myself together, and play some more starcraft. Surely this was a 1 game fluke and I would at least win another game.
My third game was vs a terran player. I saw that the terran was going for a fd build so I decided to do a really greedy fast expo build and then follow up with dt's shortly after off of 1 gateway. All was going well and I was hoping to win the game early, when I misclicked on a mine being put down. I lost that dt and my base was defenseless. 1 click was all it took to fuck up my entire strategy and I stayed in for about 8 more minutes teching up to carriers in a last ditch attempt to win. This really pissed me off and I was hoping "this game I will definitely win and then I can do some other shit".
It was against another zerg player. This time I thought I distinctly remembered that you should put the cannon 1 parsac space thing forward and so I did that so that zerglings couldn't hack away at half my mineral line or asimilator later on. I keep my scout alive long enough to see that he was going for a spire without a second gas implying going into a macro game, which I would rape him with storms and superior multitasking. Instead he ranby with about 10-12 zerglings and just took down both my cannons. I couldn't get a good block off the cannons either because it was a bit too far out of place so I got really really pissed.
I barely held that off and got all my base organised when mutalisks popped out. I cursed to myself and left the game. About 30 minutes later, I am feeling better and can finally put whole sentences together without saying + Show Spoiler +
How can I control my anger management better? - I am very competitive at everything and if I make 1-2 mistakes, I start getting really really pissed off. - I don't have a squishy ball to squish when I get angry - If I lose too much on starcraft more and more, I feel like i'm going to ram the keyboard into my monitor then throw my computer tower outside the window then break down my room door and slam some other ones as hard as possible.
help pl0x kthksbai
Edit: If someone could link me to some peaceful calming songs that would be nice
You need to find an alternative method to dealing with stress. The reason why you get angry is because it is how you have learned to adapt with stressful problems. I think you just need to look @ competition from a different view though.
Imo, you should take a break from starcraft/badminton/competitive things for a bit. Whenever I start to see that I am getting angry with starcraft, I take a break, and look @ starcraft from a rational view. It's just a game, when I lose it's simply b/c the other person did better, no reason to get annoyed with it, it's good because I learn from mistakes, etc..
Just don't take things too seriously, that's what I find works the best. When you take things like starcraft and badminton etc. too seriously, it's not fun anymore and becomes work I find.
Hope that helped.
Btw, do you have mouse acceleration on? I have now asked you maybe 3 times @ least and still no response.

No mouse acceleration on anymore. It's been off for like a month now How should I take a different look at competition? My viewpoint is that everyone else is inferior and so I shouldn't lose to inferior people
Also if i take a break from competition, my brain gets like slush. Also you need to take shit seriously if you intend on going somewhere in life
I have the same problem I would really love to get some answers i have been googling for solutions on anger control but never could find anything that really helped me.
If I'm on a loosing streak and my probe gets stuck when im trying to get it to build it a pylon I get so angry that i just alt_qq out of it and lose.
I have been so mad that I took my printer once and threw it down the fucking stairs. This shit effects my gameplay so hard but i just have no clue what to do about it. I also bruised my pinky a while back so badly that I couldn't use my hand for some days. I got pissed that I just hit my monitor till my fucking pink almost broke.
When i have a free day and plan on playing 30games so i can actually improve it always ends up in me getting so angry that i lose 30 games in a row fucking my stats up and not learning anything at all.
Allot of people say that I should take a break from starcraft or w/e but I tried that so many times I seriously stopped playing for a month came back and the first day I played so bad because i hadn't played for a months that i got so angry again that i could seriously kill someone.
If youre playing a game you enjoy, but get angry when you lose. No matter how competitive you say you are if it bothers you this much then just stop playing. Youre supposed to love playing or doing what you do.
I think everytime you get mad you should write in a journal everything that went bad. why not do a workout routine so you can calm yourself down?
I have something that might help you if you think you really have anger problems that are really an issue for you.
It's Energy Therapy recordings that you usually have to pay for, but since I already have them on my comp, I can send it to you. PM if you're interested.

I hope you get this under control yo.
I workout every week but unfortunately i do it before i start playing starcraft
Play other games that might make you scream like a sissy girl like left 4 dead. That one isn't competitive so I think you shouldn't be angry playing l4d.
But, seriously sometimes I get mad when being BMed online by someone I will know in IRL(which I shouldn't take seriously) I should punch him in the face. :D

If everyone else was inferior to you, you wouldn't be making these angry blogs.
There's nothing anyone can tell you to make you less angry. Eventually you'll realize losing doesn't matter, and it will stop. Until then, maybe concentrate more, and practice specific responses so you stop losing to stupid shit. I used to get angry when I lost, but now I really don't care if I lose, so it doesn't bother me.
It helps if you lose a game because the other guy was better, not because you messed up. So just practice alot of the little stuff like building placement, and just focus on playing solid.
Dude... I like to punch a punching bag.. If you have one maybe you should do that. And lol at the person who said he threw his printer down the stairs LMAO

Yeah this. Work/school will make a big difference in your life but badminton and broodwar are just for fun. It doesn't mean you can't take broodwar seriously, but getting mad every time you lose is just irrational. It's ok to get annoyed and e-rage a bit every so often, who doesn't. Though always getting mad when you lose is kind of inappropriate.
You mentioned that "you need to take shit seriously if you intend on going somewhere in life", but you can't take every single thing seriously or else you will just be disappointed in everything (+ you will have like no friends lol). Just relax, don't worry about it, nobody is perfect, just keep playing sc and you will improve steadily so just chill out.

Oh yeah, about east... Dude, if you get pwned on iccup rape some b.net ( specifically east ) newbies and do fun strats. Calms me down.
Why the hell don't you have a squishy ball thing? Those are pretty much a must.
Whenever I get pissed at starcraft for losing too often, I go and play a bunch of 1 minute chess games. I just fuck around on there for a few games and the stress flies away. I'm not sure if you have an equivalent activity, but there's gotta be something out there for you.
Or just go join some NR20 game on east and rape everyone after about 5 minutes.

Starcraft is infuriating, but just remember that win you win, it feels like you're god of EVERYTHING for a few seconds.
also, what resonance said.
I rage sometimes when I continually lose to cheesy stuff.
Also, make a practice acc, and play zerg and terran as well. I found my inner zerg recently, but im a true terran at heart. So I just play both, and because TvZ TvT are my better matchups, I just just play T for those.
or you can be mr. rushes for a day and ZvP PvT and TvZ
and you can just keep playing and youre the one winnning after a while
On May 20 2009 09:35 ramen247 wrote: i totally agree.
you know why?
cuz zerg is the fucking most gayest race in existence and they can win with stupid shit.
freaking 2 hatch mtuas is based on the sole chance of the terran making a single misclick.
freaking lings runbys are based on terrans looking away for 2 seconds.
freaking stop lurker is based on terran being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
the feraking entire zerg race is based on the opponent making mistakes. how stupid is a race like that?
i feel you man.
im kidding about this btw... kind of.
just dont play against zerg.
How about playing a C zerg and completely raping him then thinking your B- and you can humiliate him......ya I ended up losing coz I thought I could win off of 2 bases lol. anyways im trying not to be angry. Just telling myself not to be angry like 10 times
simple answer, wank it... take that frustration and let it loose on your cock!!!
Seriously though, get over it, its a freaking game and i also found that i play a lot more rational and better if im calm. I used to get mad and then i started reviewing replays and now i just learn from mistakes, act rationaly and make better counters and counter builds to the opponent.
It's something called perseverance and self-discipline. That's what keeping at things like SC, or anything else that requires time and effort and all that require, and teach you.
Paper that song is soooooo calming. I love Nujabes (:
I think you should take a break from SC. Don't take it too seriously imo.
I used to be like that, but I realized that I won't get anywhere even if I reach B or A, which is very good. So I just have this mentality I'll play for fun =P
The best way to deal with it is after you lose a game and it frustrates you enough to put you in a angry/rage mood just get up from your computer and walk around(not pace like a psycho)/ go get something to drink. Basically anything to take your mind off of it momentairly.
Then just come back and sit down and you should feel somewhat refreshed and clear minded. Atleast thats what i usually do and it seems to work to an extent.
Buy a punching bag. It's the only therapist you'll ever need. I am also of the same overly-competitive nature and smashing shit is the only thing that helps after a bad losing streak. Thus, punching bag will be more economical than buying new headset every week.
the everybody is inferior mindset is pretty hard
since it is not true
your fall will be harder.
obs: beware of competitiveness u might be getting addicted, for that reason i suffer these days of anxiety disorders
It has a different effect on me. I will never be satisfied with second place, so I keep pushing for first place.
