Only 9 days left til I leave for Tokyo and I'm sooo looking forward to it, I can't think about anything else these days. I've heard lots of good things about Tokyo, so I'm excited to see what it's like and how it compares to Seoul.
On the 16th of August I'll arrive in Seoul and I'll be there til September 5th. It's been about 16 months since I last went to Korea and I missed it so much. My Korean has gotten all rusty (it was never good in the first place though) and it's been such a long time that I've been to Korea in summer, I don't even remember what it's like.
Zatic and Chill will be there to own shit up and represent TL and it seems like lots of other TLnetters (Rekrul?!) are gonna be in Seoul this August, so I except an epic summer of greatness. Looking forward to meet everyone and litter the streets of Seoul with stomach contents.

It depends upon how many sets they go through - it basically takes up most of a day if you factor in queuing time (but I don't normally queue any more.) plus travel to the venue and stuff like advertisement breaks between sets etc. No starting time has been announced yet or the venue itself. (Please not Kintex! I hate going to Ilsan.)

Khaymus - ? pheer - aug 6th st3f - aug 12 snowbird - aug 16 Wala.Revolution - currently here, leaving 15th brinbran 15-30 august rekrul - leaving 18th
The usual suspects: me, jamie, dan, nick. mrhoon lives here, so does ilikestarcraft but he'll be in the states by then... elric is teaching somewhere... GoSu/ToaD is around somewhere... and I know we have many other lurkers..
if the 22nd is the finals - it would be nice to get together and watch it - but neggy wont be able to since she'll be working it. How about the night before? Dinner and drinks or something?
Choice 1) get together for dinner and cheeky drinks on the 17th (a Monday) - this accommodates just about everyone (minus wala since he leaves on teh 15th..)
Choice 2) get together for dinner and mildly intoxicating drinks on the 21st (a Friday) - this accomodates Nevergg but not Rekrul since he needs to be in Japan at this time.
Choice 3) get together at my apartment and watch the OSL finals together and then play some cards afterwards while ordering pizza on the 22nd (a Saturday) - Neggy will be working, however and again, Rek wont be there.
I personally like choice 3 only because.. well, we're all SC nerds, we should nerd it up together. ^^ but let me know what you guys wanna do.

Getting everyone together is difficult, as expected -_-
I'm for option 1. I'm on holiday so drinking on a weekday doesn't matter to me, and most people are free on the 17th, so that's a plus.
The other two options are fine too, it's just that my girlfriend knows nothing about starcraft and I don't think she'll be too with happy watching some weird ugly game on a saturday night and since we don't have too many weekends in Seoul, I'd also rather go party somewhere actually.
So it's option 1 or 2 for me. 1 is preferred.
|
I can't do 1...
I'm up for 2 or 3. If we meet up, I'd definitely prefer it it to be a time when we can all get plastered. The opportunity to see a drunk Mr Hoon and ilikestarcraft is too good to miss.
Obv I'm just one person.. so whatever the democracy decides....
edit: can I abuse this topic to ask if anyone is going to the SC2 event in Seoul tomorrow? PM me if you are please~
|
We plan on going to the OSL finals since it might be our last chance to check out a SC1 Final - ever. So option 1 would be ideal followed by number 2.
|
3861 Posts
I'd be up for option 2 too then. Since I can't drink on a week day. We can do a friday night, get plastered - and you guys can still make it to the finals to watch the event live.

I like ilsan and KINTEX is an excellent venue for bigger trade conventions, but dear god I hate the hour long subway ride to it - so boring now I lost my MP3.

Does Gangnam have Norebangs where we can practice our not-completely-sober impersonations of brood spawn Britney Spears?

I'm in Seoul now, just came back from looking for a one-room in the Shinchon area, thought it'd be a piece of cake, but it's harder than expected They won't let you rent one-rooms if you're only staying 3weeks/1month
Anybody know a good site or have a number where you can get one-rooms for short term?

I live in a place near Konkuk University which is a really nice one-tel - I could ask for you if you give me some specific dates. They let my Mum rent for two weeks so if they have a room free on the men's floor it shouldn't be a problem. It's also pretty cheap.

Ah yeah - ours is really gender segregated. We can't have men in from outside and female friends are only allowed to stay until 10pm. I don't mind though - it's too cozy in my room for more than me.

Last time I stayed in Korea I stayed in a Officetel for about a month. Since we had to have a place in Kangnam (station) it cost 120k wons + 30k, but 3-4 people lived their for a month.
Comes with all the stuff you need, and there's no problem bringing people as long as you're not too loud.
Was expensive though :<

You can try the korean guest house.
http://www.guesthouseinkorea.com/Jong-No/?M=Rate&L=1
It looks like kind of a hostel/college dormitory with more private options if needed.
You get 15% off if you stay more than 3 weeks, and 20% off if you stay more than a month!
|
Go search Seoul guesthouse, hostels or backpackers. Most of these place have a room for 2 people. And it's quite cheap 30~50k per day.
I've actually searched below accomdation for my frined's visit. and this looks alright.

I'm in Seoul now til September 5th with my girlfriend. It's her first time in Korea so I'm showing her around and stuff, unfortunately Seoul is an ugly place and there's literally NO sight I can think of that's worth seeing. Went to Gyeongboggoong yesterday and it was so boring and ugly, we left after 10 minutes. So I guess we'll spend our days shopping, eating and drinking - which are the 3 thrings Seoul is best at imo. Maybe make a trip to Pusan or somewhere else, dunno yet.
If any of you guys in Seoul would like to meet up and go for a drink or something, feel free to call me, this is my number: 010-3141-2500.
Looking forward to seeing you guys tomorrow evening.
|
The night view from Namsan Tower isn't bad or try a ferry ride across the Han River?
But yeah, if she's been to Asia before, Seoul's neon nightime buzz will have little appeal and all she will see is an ugly, dirty place....
I don't recommend going to Pusan though if you are looking for something different. It's more of the same + an incredibly crowded beach. Try Jeju if you want awesome views... or if poss, a trip to some of the small islands around Korea's coast.
