But personally I enjoy my PS CS3 :D

Any chance you have a version of that hydralisk without all the awful interpolation/jpg artifacts?

I have a smaller picture of the hydra itself as a .png file but it's on a white background because I made it in paint, but you could just get that by saving the file and cutting out the hydra. I just started using GIMP like today so I don't have a picture with the null background and I haven't figured out how to use the lasso tool yet. Plus, I drew the hydra on 400% zoom, so it turned out kind of small (in case you were wondering if there was a higher quality picture).
Also, thanks to everyone for your positive responses.
EDIT: + Show Spoiler + Here's the original drawing. I just copied/pasted stuff onto Powerpoint from there and modified certain images on new Paint templates. Also, my original black and white ling (even though everyone seems to like the hydra more than the ling): + Show Spoiler +

Interpolation refers to the algorithm used when you scale a picture to a larger size, which creates the new pixels through some combination of the data from old ones. This works with a reasonably realistic image, but when you're doing pixel art all you get is blurred edges; the individual pixels are still obvious but very poorly defined. Just zoom in on your original hydra and compare it to the scaled up one, it's much cleaner.
Furthermore jpeg compression isn't ideal for pixel art; the format's meant more for photos and the like, which have a huge range of colours and are relatively high resolution. When you have a low-colour, low-resolution image like pixel art, the compression is inefficient and more importantly creates very obvious artifacts.
