How the fuck did Calm gain points on Flash after Flash went like 5-1 and calm went 2-6?
No seriously, Flash goes 5-1 and gets *7* points. Effort goes 7-3 and gets 120.
Calm goes 2-6 and gains 37.
urrrrgh

urrrrgh Score adjustments happen not only because people won games in the last month. They also happen because games played in November '08 drop off the record.

The scores somehow have to be adjusted by less games in their career making wins more important or something. There's just noway someone who goes 2-6 with losses to hyun and Justin should gain points.
|
Half of the top ten are zergs, including all of the top three. These rankings don't seem right though. Calm over Flash? Hasn't Flash only lost 1 of his last 15 games and Calm went 2-6 this month?
|
Also why is Violet not even on the rank...?
edit: Neither is ForGG wtf?

Zergs in the top 3... and holy crap Jaedongs really far ahead

You have to not only consider their record this month, but also their record in November 2008, which is no longer counted.

Ahh kk. Makes sense. I get ClubDay MSL and the GomTV tournament from last year mixed up.

lol Jangbi fails so hard in the last 2 months and moves up 2 ranks still

There are a few blanks on the list, #39 and #44. Maybe Violet is supposed to be one of those?

aww yeah MVP moved up 6 ranks
and Zero/Kwanro (or forhitech lolol) are still in the top 10, cool

Hahaha, Flash went 5-1 that month against slightly lower kespa competition so he only gains 9 points.
That's kind of dumb and heavily favors new blood who did horribly a year ago, and hurts a player for playing amazingly -- consistently, for not winning a league.
edit: Also yeah Violet in #39 and ForGG in #44 I think, since #39 shot up places and #44 went down a little.

This is one of several complaints I have with Kespa's ranking system (another being that a player who is slumping, but won 1-2 leagues in the past year, takes forever to drop off and actually SHOW that he's slumping because of how much league wins are worth).

He lost like 250 points this month, if he doesn't win another league this season he'll almost certainly be dethroned.

The Kespa ranking reacts way, way too slowly to changes in player performance. I like Elo much better.

I don't mind the kespa ranking, people are way too quick to point out that someone is slumping.

Dear Protosses and Terrans,
Please get your shit together and destroy the zerg race instead of destroying each other please. Too many fucking zergs. Top 3 all zerg, and 5 of Top 8 are zergs.
Is that so much to ask?

Just look "contributions" and "individual" sections. For example, Sea[Shield] has more points from team games (Proleague etc) than individual games (MSL and OSL). Is that new thing from KeSPA?

JD started his current leading in April with 2664 Points. Bisu was the second with 2508 Pts. Now in December JD is still first with 2549 Pts. But second is not Bisu — for the first time the second is EffOrt with 1640.6 Pts.

By now having a 9 months streak at the top of the Kespa ratings, Jaedong has beaten both sAviOr's and iloveoov's longest streaks (of 8 months each) but is still behind July (11 months at the top) and still far behind NaDa and BoxeR (16 and 17 months respectively).

holy shit.... Jaedong is still 900+ from #2...

why is calm 3rd... didn't he get knocked out of msl and already lost a game in osl also his pl performance wasn't that great either

Kespa rankings have their use, it's just that every single month without fail there is a new poster who has no clue how they work (a la TwoToneTerran in this thread for example) and start complaining before they understand the system. Kespa rankings are obviously not the best indicator of current shape, but do help gauge consistent performance.
Kespa rankings are fine. Stop expecting them to be something they're not.
Edit:

so does that mean his recent starleague win continues to add points or something... i'm not exactly sure how the kespa ranking system works, sorry.

Absolutely it does.
If I remember correctly (I know there is a thread/article on it somewhere around here), the past 3 months are weighted the most heavily, with a decay for anything outside of that up to 12 months. This was to help the ranking more accurately show current form, while also helping to show who has consistently been performing.
Even though Kespa ranks get released monthly, they do not simply look back at the past month only. If they did, you'd have all sorts of wierd rankings and people would be up in arms about it... but focusing heavily on the past 3 months paints a better pictures, and as I said, Calm's MSL win factors into this (along with his PL performance), hence his high ranking for this month.
Edit - And what happens a lot of the time, is that older metrics will 'wear off', hence why you may have someone who had an ok month still getting passed by someone who had a terrible month... it just meant that person LOST more points overall than the other from old games rolling off.
|
Yeah I kinda like Kespa rankings, some people forget winning a SL isn't just an achievement of one month.
|
these rankings look incredibly skewed...

I'm pretty sure he got farther than Flash did last season.

Fundamentally, KeSPA rankings are just not designed as a measure of "who's playing the best right now" - for that, ELO is clearly a better measure. KeSPA is designed as a measure of "who's been most successful over the past year" - which means it's slower to react to hot streaks and slumps. Which is bad, because it doesn't reflect the fact that Flash has been looking unstoppable lately, but it also means he won't drop completely off the radar just because he's had a bad month or two.
For instance, Jaedong's ELO ranking is barely above Effort's right now, and for a while he was behind both Effort and Calm, as he's been struggling in ZvZ - but that doesn't mean he's suddenly a bad player. Even during that time, most people would say that Jaedong is "the best Z in the world right now" - and that's reflected in KeSPA, because it doesn't tank his rating just because he's had a rough month in ZvZ.
So: Flash has had a great month. If he has more great months, he'll climb the ratings further. But he hasn't been the most successful player in the last year by any stretch, so it's only sensible that he doesn't immediately pop to the top due to one good month.
|
So Cloud wins one match and goes +62 haha
|
Flash should definitely be higher than Effort....
|
arg, kwanro in the top 10.. just seems so wrong.. Now that he's not in CJ anymore I have no reason to support that guy any longer I like the kespa ranking though, I think it's cool that you dont have players dropping like crazy only because they've had a rough month.
Oh btw, this is the first month in a long time that the 6 dragons are not the 6 protoss on top, right? Movie's even ahead of two of them.
edit: oh well guess not looks like backho was ahead of best last month
|
I think EvilTeletubby's post in this thread needs to be quoted on every KeSPA ranking thread from now on to stop new people from wtf-ing and comparing it with ELO and PR.
|

what WOW top 3 zerg very nice xD

Well kinda :D
Merry Christmas = Hyvää joulua. (hyvaa)
Good Morning = Hyvää huomenta.
Have a nice weekend = Hyvää viikonloppua.
Each means Hyvää in these cases.
Directly happy means "onnellinen" though.

On the other note, I am not sure how Jaedong's ridiculous lead would hold if Flash wins both individual leagues simultaneously.

I think you get 500 points for winning a league? But JD will probably make the MSL final as well so even if Flash wins both I think JD holds on by a bit (with similar PL performances by both).
It also depends on how much each player loses from 12 months ago - neither JD nor Flash got that far during the Dragon season so I don't think they'll lose an extremely different amount of points.
|
well, from february to july, jd is gonna lose lots of points because his performance during these months a year ago pretty much cant be topped or repeated. (2 back to back osl wins, beasting it in proleague, solid performance in msl..)
|
Not if he wins a starleague a season.
But that's asking a bit much.

Kwanro. Silver medals and pretty solid performance elsewise will get you pretty high, especially when you shed some bad months from a year ago off of him.
