This is an interview with Bisu done by OSEN on the 25th of October
Progamer turned popular BJ, Bisu - "My ideal type is Suzy"
Through his personal AfreecaTV broadcast The Revolutionist Kim Taek Yong has returned to his fans. With the after-taste of Bisus retirement still lingering esports fans were already reminiscing about his broodwar days.
After Bisu started his first broadcast on the 27th last month, esports fans flocked to watch it. The interest was so great that Bisu immediately made the top10 list on AfreecaTV.
His explosive popularity coming from being one of the most influential figurehead progamers of his time, the fans feel excitement just by hearing Bisu breathe on his personal broadcast. OSEN met with Bisu "The Revolutionist" last weekend.
"It seems as if I have become even busier after retiring. People close to me recommended that I should start my own AfreecaTV broadcast. I had stopped being a player but it was a question of how I could repay the fans for all the love and attention they had given me. I was honestly a bit hesitant as I felt like I had disappointed them when I was playing SC2, but ultimately it was rather because of this that I felt I had to repay them somehow."
Ex. progamers who started their own broadcast on AfreecaTV before Bisu are all caught up in the so-called Star-Balloon controversy. It does not matter what game they are from, StarCraft, WarCraft3, LOL etc. - the noise from viewers star balloon donations is unending if the broadcaster is an ex. progamer.
Rising immediately to the top of the Afreeca BJ lists and receiving overwhelmingly positive response, Bisu was expectedly immediately engulfed in this controversy, but his response was unexpectedly calm and composed. As he was responding to the fans' contributions he was both apologizing and thanking them at the same time.
"I did not start broadcasting for star balloons, but inwardly there is an addiction of course. Nevertheless I absolutely did not begin doing this for star balloons. They gave me so much I was completely taken aback. It hasn't been that long since I started broadcasting but after checking how much they have given me it really is quite a lot. I gratefully accept what is given to me but I cannot help feeling sorry as well. Sometimes when my performance isn't up to scratch after preparing and starting my broadcast this makes me rather upset. Although I'm just an ordinary person, no longer a progamer, there seems to be a competitive instinct somewhere deep inside me."
After asking 25 year old(Korean age) Kim Taek Yong what he wants to do in the future he seems concerned for a moment before his eyes suddenly light up.
"Actually because I have been a progamer ever since I was young it's like I don't know much about society. In a way listening to other peoples stories and telling my own is why I started streaming. First of all I want to make as many friends as possible before entering the military either next year or the year after."
On the question of whether he perhaps wants a relationship Bisu begins to blush.
"Trying my hand at dating would be good, but as I have never had a girlfriend I'm not sure it's something I can do well. Of course now I want to try my hand at dating just like my friends but in my progaming days I made an effort to not even become friends with girls. This was because I felt that even though having a girlfriend would be nice, it would go against my sense of responsibility. I can't do many things at once. I wanted to focus on only one thing."
After asking Bisu the follow up question on who then is his 'ideal type', he immediately responds without hesitation - Miss A's Suzy. Although Bisu has not seen Suzys latest drama 'Gu Family Book' he praises her highly both as a singer and for her appearance in 'Introduction to architecture'.
"I hope I don't cause her any inconvenience by saying so but Suzy really is my ideal type. I am a big fan of course, but honestly whenever I see her on stage or on TV my mood improves and even though it's just on a screen I want to see her over and over again. Always when I see her laughing bright figure she really seems like an angel(laughs)."
In closing Bisu wished to again express his utmost appreciation to his fans.
"In the future, no matter what I do I will be diligent. Both when I had a hard time in my progaming days and now after I have retired, you the fans are the ones who give me strength. You don't know how reassuring it is. No matter where I am I will always do my best to stand tall and dignified for you."
I really don't understand how so many Koreans like Suzy. She's one of these least attractive kpop stars and she's not even very talented. Just boggles my mind.

u kidding ?
Ehh... Guys find that attractive? I mean she's okay, but her face has a very masculine shape imo. I mean here she looks okay just because she has her make-up professionally done. Try to envision her without make up and her hair nicely done. Definitely below the definition of an "attractive" woman.
This is coming from a white guy with an asian girlfriend. Either my girlfriend is top model material, or I have different taste in women.

It's almost as if taste... and attractiveness... are SUBJECTIVE!!! *gasp*
If Korea had something like what the US calls "America's Sweetheart", (which they do btw, "nation's first love", Suzy is it. I think it's because she has that 'girl next door' quality and doesn't look plastic like many idols.

This is a pretty good explanation for her popularity. People like her very much in korea, so the last thing you want to do is diss her in front of koreans..

I think all of TL unanimously loves you Kiett. The rare case where there is no subjectiveness.

I though IU was the korean sweetheart? I mean before people discovered that girls her age actually do disgusting stuff like kissing boys and having sex. Gross i know.

She looks fine. As far as Asian girls go (who are typically bad looking), she's practically a goddess. You're implying there is talent in kpop. Surely more than American pop at least. Also, don't diss kpop stars on TL. They could be the ugliest and most talentless people on the face of the planet, and you will get flamed to hell.

I lol'd.... Can't even take that post seriously. If you don't know what you're talking about, why even post an opinion? I say that because your statements are trying to be factual but really are not at all.

Yeah, IU WAS Korea's sweetheart. They claimed that over and over in Korean news and Korean variety shows, but that was some time ago. Suzy because Korea's sweetheart after that, and I just never understood why.
If she was "the girl next door", I wouldn't think she's anything special, and wouldn't go out of my way to talk to her.
It's so funny watching bisu's stream because half of it is exactly as he says, thanking and apologizing. Also, the moaning is the main reason I go. I still can't believe that reddit video got taken down. Someone needs to reupload that thing lmao.

Excuse me?
Have you ever been to china? Just asking.
Oh, okay. Thanks for clarifying that we Chinese girls are your example for ugliest females you can think of. I really needed that to start my day.
Hmm, I secretly hope Bisu will do more than just stream, like play an occasional tournament or something. I've been enjoying his stream alot, but like many of us here I'd love it if he would take it a little further.
Oh and also... Can people just take their shitty comments about the attractiveness of this girl and asian girls in general someplace else please? Seriously. Fuck off.
I think IU was the "Nation's Little Sister" which brings with it a slightly different connotation. Watch her try to pull off a sexy-concept...Korea's reaction to it would be similar to an older brother seeing his sister trying to act sexy ie. no thankyou!
edit: Look at the public outcry that stemmed from her scandal with Eunhyuk.

Well yeah, that's what this is about. Of course people can have their own tastes. I don't really care about someone saying "I don't find asian girls attractive" or "asian girls are not attractive to me." But the whole come on, have you seen those girls in china? way of putting it is pretty rude and hurtful.

I don't think he really meant to be hurtful... Like with lots of guys I talk to. It's normal to say, "Oh, black girls have nice booties". There's positive statements like that, but also lots of negative ones... And from my experience, a lot of white guys find asians visually unappealing. My girlfriend is chinese and I have quite a few asian friends, and from my experience, asian people find black people visually unappealing for example. So yep...
TLDR - TL is 98% guys, when guys talk to guys about girls they talk without sugar coating it, because they aren't hurting themselves with it.
Just a little thing you need to brush off and not bug you.

My gf is also Chinese, but 90% of my friends are either Korean or Japanese (all natives, no fobs). There is a pretty high percentage of them that are interested in blacks. Every demographic is different though.
Main thing, however, is to say things that people can respect, and therefore share a conversation over. Speaking like an idiot isn't helpful to the person speaking, nor to the people listening.
Suzy's looks are visually appealing in all east Asian countries. In general white guys tend to judge girls a bit differently. They'll have a gf who they think is smoking hot, but if she judged in Korean standards she would be rated poorly. It's a blessing that people have different tastes though.

I don't think that's exactly what he meant. However, take it from a guy who for a few years had more yellow fever than every dude on this forum combined, even during that period, even with my colossal bias in favor of asian girls, a lot were not good looking to me at all . I was still able to keep a level head and not let biases get in the way. On the contrast, many Mideastern girls are really pretty to me, despite the fact I don't like them at all.

You are right, i should have worded it better. Sorry about that. And just to clarify, i dont find asian girls typically unattractive.
We all have to remember Korean beauty standards here, the most prominent of which, from my interpretation, is having a small face/head. That's like the number one thing all these idol celebrities have in common. Realizing this really blew my mind, and now I can't help seeing it in my daily interactions. Yoona, Hara, Suzy, Seungyeon, Hyuna, actresses, even the male idols (cough, exo, cough) all small faces.
Western beauty standards pay no attention to it, whatsoever.

I'll agree that Korean standards are different, but me and my Korean friends agree on pretty much all of our girl discussions except for Suzy's. Japanese and Taiwanese people I know don't agree with most Korean standards that I know though.

They have their own standards though, that are pretty rough too. At least what is propagated by their media and magazines.

You could argue that she went for a mature?concept in her latest album, also it was #1 just as expected. Title song is no.2 now
This "star balloons" controversy shouldn't even be a thing. People say that every time someone else makes a lot of money in public view.

also lol iu >> suzy kthx -w-
Good distinction. Describing it as mature is probably the best way to put it. What I'm referencing is the case where IU tries to transform herself into the second coming of Hyuna (who can pull it off). A mature concept works effortlessly with IU because, who's gonna hate seeing his little sister mature into a beautiful, confident woman. Right?
Also, I thought I read somewhere that Bisu had a crush on Wonder Girl's Sohee. Suzy trumping all crushes everywhere now.
It's that huge forehead and the excessive eye-smile, seriously. I never understood her appeal which makes the days of Tuelite parading his obsession for her more WTF.
There is a little saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
I think that is good enough to describe how most of you feel. So how about stop attacking another perons's view about girls and leave that conversation alone?
Oh the other hand, glad Bisu seems happier now. Hope he stays around for a little bit.
Korean Kespa sponsored programing teams like SKT T1 often have rules where u are not allowed girlfriends as past players performances have dipped/slumped considerably when they got into relationships (Stork's slump and OSL loss coincided with his breakup with his ex.
Now that hes got military service to go to in a year or he has plenty of time to get with all his admiring fangirls (and Bisu almost always had the most female fans of any progamer). Its pretty crazy when you watch Bisu's stream and you see 500, 1000+ ballon donations to him from just one person. Bisu was and still is one of the most popular progamers + super handsome (though he looks a little chubby in that unflattering picture in the article.)
Really glad to see any articles on Bisu in any way shape or form
This thread went from Bisu and his life to Suzy and Asian females.
As for the Suzy case, people like her because not only is she young and fulfills the role of "the next door neighbor" that IU left behind for the "sexy and mature" look, that Korean celebrities themselves would say, but her appearance on TV is that of an always smiling girl that has a good sense of humor and tall and independent, despite being the youngest in miss A.
As for IU, she's not the [Korean] Nation's Little Sister anymore, and neither is Suzy. It's an actress that goes by the name of Moon Geun Young now. Again, IU left her "position" as the little sister, probably after her little scandal with Eunhyuk that was blown out of proportions and her many kissing scenes in her dramas.
As for Bisu, he's pretty awesome, but NaDa is the greatest of all time.
Bisu gosu! PS : Regarding girls bisu should choose carefully as he seems to be sensitive kind of guy and some girls are really full of shit and should be avoided or bad things can happen.
thanks for translation! lol at the asian girl and dating thread. As mentioned, it's quite subjective. Anyone else think Bisu looks really tired in that first picture? I was surprised at just how umm badly tired he looked lol
wow... so much Suzy hate here. she's beloved for more than just her looks, but for her incredibly charming personality, which you'll never discern from pics. she is an absolute sweetheart.

Post up video of interviews and such then. You can usually discern grace just by body language and voice alone. Impress us!

IU needs classy-sexy as a concept, in a less forward way than Ga In (who epitomizes it in Korea) does. She's pulled it off successfully with the Modern Times album, and though she'll likely never be a purely classical beauty (because of her cheekbones), her marketing has pulled it off.

Hey, I'm 25 and needs a gf too! Yay....
Me too... too bad only ~15 yo girls hit on me and I've to ignore them.
Why won't older girls hit on me, i'm too shy to make the move
You're pedo-bait. Right there, the reason why older ladies don't like you is because you're probably setting off the "too young" vibe to them. It'll help you snagging the senior high school girls, but if you're not into them, you're outta luck.
Also, Kiett dating? Who's the lucky guy?! As a blunt judge of attractiveness, in my standards, I'd say Kiett's gorgeous. Whoever snags her for life as a waifu hits gold.
"This was because I felt that even though having a girlfriend would be nice, it would go against my sense of responsibility. I can't do many things at once. I wanted to focus on only one thing."~Bisu
The master of multitasking can't do many things at once..... Im choking on the irony.
I really just believe he didn't want to make an effort before because he was shy and was extremely focused. Now that the pro gaming isn't a factor i think he will be just fine.
It's a well-managed image. Even the nerdiest and most straight-laced of progamers like Light and Reality have had girlfriends/dated girls before. It's possible that Bisu hasn't had a steady girlfriend before but I find it hard to believe that someone who's known to go to Gangnam clubs hasn't dated at least one girl before.

What are gangnam clubs ?
Clubs that are in the Gangnam district in Seoul. Famous night-life spot.
I won't pretend to know how progamers or celebrities in Korea end up dating, but as you probably know Ryo going to clubs isn't really the way koreans meet dating partners. Unless you mean booking clubs specifically made for this of course.

So Bisu lied about him not going to clubs in one of his earlier broadcasts? He said something along the lines of "I don't go to clubs like people of my same age."

not joking yo it might happen, cause bisu is a celeb toooo
Well a part of criteria necessary to be "Nation's Little Sister", a title that is currently held by this Suzy girl is that it requires you to be as much innocent as possible. So going on dates and such doesn't exactly solidify your position. Its what happened to the last "sister" (IU), I think she broke that image and people rescind that title.
lol @ all the "asian girls aren't attractive/only average" talk.
Its all subjective, i fucking love asian girls and i find most caucasian girls to be average. I find black girls the least attractive yet i know guys who absolutely love them.

Also Bisu <3
For some reason I find Caucasian girls very disgusting. I don't know if I'm projecting onto them but I pick out every physical flaw they have. Plus their attitudes tend to be bitchy and entitled.

Thought there was an interview way back wherein Bisu admitted to having dated around, but that he couldn't find a girl who "understood" the progamer lifestyle?
So glad that Bisu's back.. In any sort of way possible..
Such a waste of talent to end up that early on all of a sudden.. Retired or not retired - he's still there.. That still counts and I'm grateful for it..

u kidding ?
Your gf probably not top model, I agree with what you stated, she's really not that great looking imo. The "standard" girl I run into in San Diego is more attractive imo. Then again, San Diego has tons of hot women.
I am compelled to post it here as there are a lot of suzy hater here. If you call this face masculine, you need to get your eyes check my man. since you have not uploaded your gf pics, I am not sure I could believe what you say about your gf being supermodel. beauty is in the eye of beholder, majority of people think that she is all that including me. So peace.
