You probably heard the news already - Sonic makes another huge step forward, opening a studio to let the fans get close with their favorites again (and with each other! let's not forget that). Now he finally gives us a sneak peek inside!
Capacity 100 people.
The opening will be celebrated with a couple of sponsored supermatches. No concrete announcements yet but we'll keep tabs on this.

In celebration of opening of new SonicTV studio, I plan to have Supermatches. It'll take place over 4 weeks and will be offline. For Supermatch, just select the match you want to see the most.
Example) Bisu vs Killer Bo5 -- $940 price ($940 immediately given to the winner at the day of victory)
Not a tournament format, the winner just takes the price at the spot. The format will be 1:1 Bo5 will fixed price of $940. Currently we are trying to recruit Kim Carrier and Lee Seung Won for the casting, and plans to start offline at SonicTV studio at third week of November.
This event is sponsored by board rental company 'Boardtrader'(?) who loves Starcraft. Every employee there loves Starcraft which is quite amazing ^^ So we're preparing for 4 Supermatches over course of the month, with support of 1500 for one month (?) I'll give you specific details when I announce you that company's homepage later on ^^
Whoa, now that looks like a proper Starcraft studio! A massive improvement from where he held the previous SSLs - those random PC cables and clutter lying around the studio really took away from the awesomeness for me
I cant remember but are the booths sound proof, i know they'll probably still wear the noise canceling headphones over their earphones. Also booth girls?(now that i think about it they might be part time models) i wonder what they've been doing, does anyone know if they have boothgirl for LoL or the other esports
he has his own online sneakers shop shinbal farm or something its going pretty well it seems he invests his own money i wish some nice other sponsors would step up !
Ahh ok thx guys for the info Im mainly sc2 and cant catch up with all the behind the scenes stuff in BW but I always love o tune in to watch some good ole BW and with a studio and booths it makes it even more pleasamt to watch :D

ah yes this is definitely the dream i was but a mere highschool-er from far away ;_; no chance of me going to korea to watch proleague but now :D hahaha this dream can live! ^_^
On November 10 2013 20:46 GumBa wrote: Cool! Quick question but how does sonic finace all of this? From streaming?
Sonic owns an online shop for selling shoes (Sinbalfarm [shoefarm]). He obviously puts in considerable amount of money from the business into all this but he appears to be doing well, he recently introduced his own shoe brand (Sbenu) and he also recently opened a branch store for Sinbalfarm.
In return he promotes his business during casts. He also promotes a lot of friendly brands/BJs (like companies selling pcs), so there are some partnerships.. Some of these businesses, like PCFamily also sponsored individual players/teams before. He's hoping the teams in SPL will find new sponsors too, but that would probably happen later if there's an ongoing league rather than just a series of matches that'll end soon (SSL9 coming up).
On top of that he's getting sponsors for the leagues and other events individually. For the last SSL it was Itembay, the sponsored matches will be sponsored by a snowboard rental company that apparently consists of BW enthusiasts. What we're all waiting for is an announcement on the scale of SSL9 (i.e. sponsors).

Missing the last event by two weeks, but now this comea up the same say as my brother got a place at their embassy! Boxer Im coming again!, this time for my firdt cruh bw not the second gf sc2 who i have to lie about my feelings to
Wow Sonic truly is a hero for BW. In Korea all these great BW pros that are coming back are bringing a lot of fans with them. I wonder if we will ever see a foreigner go back to BW like that, I think it would be a perfect opportunity for a guy like Idra. He would have a monopoly on foreigner fans and I'm sure a lot of his fan base that he got from sc2 would follow him. A lot of us went to sc2 just because our BW favorites moved to that game, and you end up learning to love the game just for that. I think the same would happen if Idra switched back. I dont know how much his stream numbers would suffer but Idra would inject a lot more interest back from foreigners. Obviously its a hard decision he currently has solid stream income, a sponsor etc. and he might not think he can get back to his old level in BW... I just think with all the awesome stuff that has been happening in Korea something like that would be great for BW in the west.
BW revival! Like those olden days when they played in small studios packed with fans but this time with actual booths and no ridiculous super hero uniforms.

there is no reason to not restart. Even foreign scene's been amazing these days with awesome games. I think BW is great to watch at all levels. At pro-level, you think to yourself that these guys are superhumans, at lower-level, you relate to your own ladder mistakes and have a few laughs. It truly is one of the most brilliant invention by men.
Damn this is amazing. Sonic really making a big impact for BW and all viewers :D Can't wait to see the first broadcasts from the Studio Hope Kim Carrier and Lee Seung Won commentate too!
I really hope he find english casters as well. I don't know how much it will costs for him but there's enough pationate people that could ask to do it even if not paid.
But well... If he get Kim carrier and Lee seung won... No need for english casters i think
Can we donate ? I never did but THIS is worth donating !

English casters probably won't help him much at the moment, seeing that he streams on afreeca which is solely used in Korea. He'd need to start streaming on Twitch if English casters would be of any use to him and although there's a decent amount of foreigners that would watch, I'd recon that's probably on the bottom of his priority list atm (although that would be really cool). Besides we've got enough good casters here on TL to cast on the restream like they've been doing so far
Wow, this is big already. If he invested in a studio, I hope he can open a tv channel soon dedicated to BW. Now I'm worried only about Blizzard. Is there a date when all the rights Blizzard has on BW expire?

Yeah i know... i'm just dreaming a little But i'm so hopefull that i can have a lot of BW content again with a good production. Because as of now, Sonic did with what he could (which was good) but this is so awesome ! I will have two proleague to watch with good production soon (i hope)

Does anybody have the viewer numbers of the Afreeca stream? Also it's hard to judge how many people would actually tune in, should it happen. I mean the snipealot restream of the events rarely (if ever) go over 500 and the same holds to true for the vod casts in English. On the other hand, Bisu's stream spiked well over 1500k in the beginning.
HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE GAHHH This is going to be so great~ haha I can't wait to see actual pros sit in those booths... BW sort of returning to the mall days~ this studio just reminds me of that time
maybe he could get tasteless and/or artosis to cast some events. doesnt tasteless do voice work outside gom? and we know kim and lsw work for 'rival' companies and he can get them, so providing we are talking of sponsoring match/s...?

It really depends on how much you are willing to pay for them. As we all know, they switched to SC2 for monetary purposes. Now that's not to say it is a bad thing. Man's gotta eat.

he's an english speaking korean that used to cast with Tasteless for GOM. AFAIK he left GOM after the SC2 switch and opened up his own PC bang (he didn't like SC2 and was quite open about it). But ye, I was half joking I guess

Yea, Tasteless and Superdanielman were an amazing casting duo. Their BW casts for the GOMTV Averatec Intel Classics (http://www.gomtv.net/classic/vod/), were some of the best and most entertaining English casts ever. They were knowledgeable about the game, but also had interesting and funny moments: like their famous "monkey milk" discussion, or the time Tasteless pranked SDM by interrupting him like 5 times in a row during a cast. It would be great if Tasteless and SDM came back to cast BW when it is viable.
Last I heard, SDM was working at an insurance company or something - is that accurate? Is there a link to where SDM talks about SC2? And has he made any subsequent/recent comments about anything BW related?

not agreeing, with waste to have english. But you could think of it as, having english casters will take prize money away from the league and players (unless they do it for free) also i think most of us dont really care about english coverage (its always been nice, but personally ive never minded, though absolutely love eng-subbed korean casts) Also alot of viewers on twitch (the english audience) watch the stream through snipealots FPV which would also not require english casting.
To make it profitable you'd need someone like day9 or tastosis and they'd have to do it for free. There's just not enough foreign audience.. around 500 ppl watch sospa events on twitch and usually more than half watches fpvs only - and that's including our chinese friends who certainly wouldn't tune into an english cast. Sayle could attract the numbers too but we know he can't cast live due to work and he's already got more than enough of casting with TLS I'm sure.

Well the SSLs got a lot more than that.
SSL finals had several finals, right? But yeah it's still not profitable to invest in a foreign caster.
Pack this venue, Korean fans. Pack the hell out of this venue.
Sonic is a mind-blowing force. I have such respect for his energy and entrepreneurial thinking, he really deserves each of his ventures to be a success.

haha yeah, I want to see a packed audience.
i wonder if there'll be audience shots i think it would be really sweet if light girl came back to cheer for him (even though she has a bf, they probably both like bw...if he didnt i dont think they would be dating ) I definitely loved seeing those couples in the back, holding hands wactching and then shying away when the camera goes on them :D Anyone know what happened to the little bisu fan girl?
english commentary opens it up to a bigger audience
just because the current base is content without it doesnt mean we are the only ones interested
when sayle started casting the ssl the numbers shot up, the proof is there of outside interest. with increased numbers from an english cast comes an increased numbers of donators.
stagnation is death, at the moment all we have is snipes restream, which may not even be there in 2 months.
(this is all based on assumptions we foreigners will be donating somehow)

that is true, but from Sonic's standpoint he doesn't really have that much to gain (in the short term atleast i guess). BW was and probably will remain mainly a Korean pasttime, with a small underground foreigner following. Sonic's chief goal should therefore probably be to first try and make it viable within Korea for the Korean audience. I guess he could always expand later if he wants to
O_O i dont think ive seen that before, i do remember a stare-down of a fan with fbh tho lol that was funny, but wow wow that girl looks pretty too :O zerO ur gf is awaiting!!!

I agree with everything but it doesn't change what I said.
Sayle isn't casting this (at least not live = huge drop in numbers). There is no other english caster famous enough to draw the numbers that we know of who would start regularly casting this for free (or even some money).
Sonic is all to busy managing all that he does to expand and target foreigners who are as of now a force barely worth mentioning. Some kind of cooperation was probably suggested to Sonic already but he doesn't see the potential.
To make him see the potential we would have to persuade a famous esports celebrity to start casting this for free or hire them, and start collecting donations and send them to Sonic. If this works there's a chance he sees the potential and hires the man himself and uses him live in the studio etc.
I'm not saying it's impossible and yes, there is probably still some potential and it would be great to take advantage of it. If you're going to try and do something about it I'm of course on your side, but I don't see this happening from Sonic's side.

Did he say anything about not casting the SSL? Don't remember that just that the KoTh is during the week and he can't do it. When SSL comes out it will probably be during the weekdays so Sayle will hopefully decide to cast it.
