I mean you look at the "world rankings" in tennis/golf, and you dont really care because the wins and performances matter so much more than what "rank" a player has. Yes is really important. It appears in the most important Tournaments and Finals.

how often do you hear a player say "oh man, my main goal is to get back in top 10 kespa" or "dude, #1 kespa rank is my career goal" when asked "what are your goals for this year?" etc. Instead it's always "wins" "getting into leagues" etc that's valued by the players in the interviews. Very similar in other sports as well. Is there even an instance where in sports, the players actually care deeply about their world rank? Because I certainly cant think of any. Your rank doesnt determine how good you are, so why would they care? :O

I forgot that it must matter in boxing as well, because of how they "challenge" the champions but I presume that rankings in those 2 sports act in quite a differnt manner than in bw, golf, tennis, squash, etc

I will show you this Latin Webpage as an example. Thread name: KeSPA. Just Logic And Mathematics. http://www.teambio.net/showthread.php?t=4553

that's like saying, beacuse TL.net has a thread on the kespa rankings, Kespa rankings must have immense importance in Taiwan.

Let's say savior didnt get into OSL 3. Nada obviously did. Nada does decently well in osl3, gets top 4. Savior wins Gom MSL. April Kespa says savior is #1 and nada is #2, ranking change without any head to head match between the two. You really think fans or players would buy into the way kespa ranks who is #1 or #2 without a head to head game between the two, and truely beleve that savior is now all the sudden better than nada? I personally dont think so. Kespa is a "decent" barometer, but nothing that has any sort of real or absolute value in terms of who is the "better" player =S
