This is why Flash said he can't answer because he hasn't been on the net checking them out. hope this answers some of your complains. gj mrhoon for translating.

haha flash is still just a kid that mom answer is so hilarious hahaha
Damn he would like to be a teacher if he wasnt a progamer, and he manages to combine progaming with school, my respect of flash is just endless now. He's very confident but extremely mannered as well, god just everything about him owns.
Reading Boxer's translated book recently, I can't help but make parallels.
I think it will be very hard to dominate Flash. His mind is fixed on the game and he can't even answer interview questions properly . But more to the point it's his "You can't beat me" mentality that he has going on. I think it will definitely help him get far.
You guys can call this little kid arrogant or whatever but you do have to admit he has come far in a short period of time and he has dominated heavily.

I never fucking understood these questions.
"UR 16 U HAV 2 LIEK GURLZ OR UR GAY OR A NO LIEF LOZER"
I normally don't reply to replies like these but I have to say it. Maybe, you know JUST MAYBE he likes gaming more than girls right now? When he first debuted he had a girlfriend. I mean maybe he believes winning is a bigger priority then getting some 15-16 year old pussy? Pussy doesn't give you money and fame, wins do. I cannot believe out of all the things people pick to say something about flash you question his sexuality? You could've been like every other TL member and say "HURR HE STILL IS BORING" but you picked out this?
And seriously, criticizing someone's 'life' on an internet forum about korean progamers is fucking retarded.
" It is too much of a burden to hear stuff like this already. I haven't been on the scene for 2 years and I have to win more titles lol. But when I do get to that point, I will surpass the Bonjwa level and be called something greater. "

Couldn't of been upmagic, they came out around the same time. Didn't they?
take it easy bigshot. I didn"t pick on his sexuality, just his lack of social skills. Why would i pick on anything else, I don't even know him, but JUST MAYBE you realize that he didn't not say anythig along the lines of priority, he specifially said that his mum was his type of girl, because he hasn't been on the internet for a while?! That's the epitome of nerdyness right there and I cannot leave such a statement uncommented. Maybe he was joking, maybe he meant to say something else entirely, but unfortunately, I can only comment on what information I have.
And that last line of you made your post completely ridiculous anyways to be honest.

uhg. I guess this is something that cannot be translated properly in any way unless I sit here and explain how it works. When said in Korean, it sounds very cute like a cat "awww so clueless" moment. I guess its my fault for not being a prof translator -_-.
And my last line of the post is perfectly fine. I don't see anything wrong with it.
Of course he still has time to change, but just as school_victim says, he has amazing talent and seems like a geuinely nice guy, but I can't be the only one to think that he is missing out on a lot. Thx lots for the translation.
Who cares ? You read his interview, you're using your ballerpimp "life" on him right now.
I just find it hilarious that some of you are telling him to get a life Since everyone reading a starcraft forum on their spare time is a nerd by default.
it's kinda sad how he says that there are people that hate him. He seems like an easy going nice kid from the interview. I liked that part where he called jaedong his rival but felt bad cause he always loses to him lol.

meh, humans live to do what they love and can do well, regardless of what those things are. In western countries kids his age are probably having sex and partying, and they call this 'living' and to deviate is to suggest some inadequacy. But that's so arbitrary.
i think that sort of thinking brings on so much unhappiness. If you're happy with what you're doing, and then suddenly someone says well you should be doing some other thing because it gives special status, should you really change?
I don't think Flash is missing out on anything that he cares about. He's missing out on a lot of things that YOU care about, but to him it's no big deal.
When he mentioned Fantasy harrassing and creating chaos it came to my mind the game between him and Stork at the finals where Flash went vult drop and then added wraith and tanks. That was amazing!

scforall translated it When the interview came out I was translating it and all of a sudden I saw SCforall did it first, so I had to cancel my post
But this time, I got here first
MWAHAHHAHAHAHAAA
Thx for the translation <3 Flash's play wouldn't have thought fantasy and flash were so close, also nice pick for the next 30Q&30A - especially the question.
I love how everyone takes all interview with progamers so god damn serious. It's like Flash were some static robot who couldn't anwser questions in the way he wants to. I am sure he was not 100% serious about the girl thing, he rather wanted to avoid the question so he said something funny (JUST LIKE ALL FAMOUS PEOPLE DOES). To start arguing if he is a no lifer or not? wow, it's amazing how everyone grows balls on the internet, change your own life and let others be! Go Flash, slay those Protoss nabs.

Man, this kid's life is starcraft, he earns a lot of money when he's still 16, and he still attends to the school, so he has no basically free time to date with a girl or do some shit like that and you know, he won already in his life so shut the fuck up.

I can't believe that Much didn't make the 6 dragons (at least over Kal or Jangbi or SOMEBODY). Kind of a bummer, he's awesome.
I thought it was interesting the way Flash described Fantasy "good at creating Chaos". It does describe his style very well and the way he's able to come back and win games.
Stop reading that much into an interview. If you read any earlier interviews of that series you would know that it's just a very chilled chat Q&A.
Besides, flash is still going to school ("so you won starleague? blowjob?") WHILE owning in starcraft and he lived with Reach. What i see is a guy that loves his friends, loves his work and just enjoys being in a competitive enviroment. Great kid with a heart of a true warrior.

I guess it's because Much is "too old". Kinda like Anytime and Pusan. Also he hasnt been that great in the 2nd half of 2008.
This interview makes me love Flash even more, he seems pretty dam arrogant though. However, i wonder how good a teacher he will become if all he does in school is sleep XD.
yea the reason there are so many 'lol' or 'keke" is because the interview has been done online. "ㅎㅎ" is more like smily expression than "lol". When asked their fav girl type, Koreans usually refer to attractive female singers or actresses. And only way progamers can learn about them out of their 12 hr training per day, is through checking photos& interviews of them on internet. This is why Flash said he can't answer because he hasn't been on the net checking them out. hope this answers some of your complains. gj mrhoon for translating.
haven't been on the scene for 2 years and I have to win more titles lol. But when I do get to that point, I will surpass the Bonjwa level and be called something greater.

Other than that it was a great interview.
yes this is translated wrong.....he is actually saying: a girl who looks as beautiful as my mum.
anyway, good interview. flash still thinks like a kid and uses very simple logic (eat-->give strength--> keep gaming), adults would care too much of what people think to give honest straight answers like these.

gg_hertzz already covered it pretty well, but sure he may "miss out" on some typical teenage things, but just about every celebrity, pseudo-celebrity, or child prodigy at anything has the same issues. it's simply a trade off, do you think he'd have more fun being normal than he does on a proteam, as the #1 terran in progaming? i doubt it. you can't really do both, and i'm sure flash has plenty of fun with KTF and being kind of a famous guy in school. i suspect he doesn't reveal everything about his social life also.
i mean, if he were to never do progaming and be just an average school teacher or whatever, don't you think that's 1000x more regret and missing out on what could have been? that's like saying "oh federer, you missed out on a lot as a teenager right because you had to practice and travel to so many tournaments!" it's ridiculous and obviously if you're the best at whatever you do and can earn a great living at it, that's probably the right choice. you're not missing out on anything, you are just choosing to experience something better.
About the type of girl question, when TV casters ask guests about 이상현, a lot of times the answers are comparative to Korean tv/movie/k-pop stars. Instead of going: blond, tall, cute eyes, small chin, long hair, bla bla, they just say the name of the korean celeb that gets closer to their ideal girl, so maybe that's the reason for the internet thing answer.
Oh, and the "I feel sorry for progamers, they don't have a life, they are pathetic losers that will die virgin, bla bla bla" it is getting kind of old.
I feel sorry for exploited kids or guys who are really struggling with life throwing shit at their faces every time they try to stand up and go on.
Progamers? It's something they chose, voluntarily, because they love the game, and I'm sure they are pretty damn happy they made it. And they do something that is socially accepted. It's not something nerdy anymore in Korea. However, keeping up with a site that discuss strategy and players of a video-game in the western culture... well, wouldn't THAT be nerdy?
No hanging out with friends? Every now and then, I read interviews and it seems like going to the movies, playing sports and doing fun stuff other than SC is pretty common, most of the times even mandatory depending on what team you play on.
Girlfriends? Well, some will have gf's, some won't. Like in.... life itself. Even TL.net. I wonder how many of the haters here have gf's. The fact that some guys here make such a big deal of having a gf, like having one makes you finally a winner, makes me wonder. Personally, having a gf has never made me feel cooler than others, not a life-winner or a life-loser. Just happy. I don't go judging others because they have no gf. Guys like Bisu, Nada, Boxer, Savior and such can snap their fingers and be sure that girls will pop out. Guys like TheZerg or Bug-Terran, well, chances are girls will not fall to their feet.
Future? Well, the biggest stars are earning loads of money, and for sure they have a future somewhere linked to the growing eSport industry. The guys who suck and won't get anywhere in SC? Well, it's not like they quit their education(see Flash). And there is life after SC. They can keep studying, and if they are determined and smart, they will make it. Just like in every other thing in life. Especially with the Korean corporation entry level tests, what you have studied doesn't limit you that much.
Oh and let me remind you, you are in a SC forum. You follow the careers of these no-life losers. Lol, you even cheer for them and curse when they lose. So, whatever. Great post, you just made every Flash hater in this thread look like a total idiot :D.
Because how would anybody of you call a person who: 1) read an interview translated by nonprofessional translator 2) has apparently no idea about cultural and social background in Korea except that they play Stacraft there a lot 3) and then picks some small stuff from that interview and spit insults on the interviewed person?
That really requires a lot of hate or some brain issues. Preferably both.
Anyway, great interview, Thanks MrHoon! But I don't think Flash is so overconfident or arrogant like some of you imply. It seems to me that he is half-joking the whole time (the "lol", or should I say "smilies" for the slower among us). The answer about rivalry shows it best, he is easily able to make fun of himself, which is not a trait of an arrogant person.
And seriously - I think AloneInDaBunker's post should be included in the OP post, it clears a lot of things up.
seriously.. how could you hate this guy? This young and he pwns it up with such confidence. I can definitely see him becoming a bonjwa or something greater.

arrogant 1. making claims or pretensions to superior importance or rights; overbearingly assuming; insolently proud
he said when he wins more titles, he will surpass the bonjwa level and be called something greater
yes maybe that's a bit high goals, but he even said "i have to win more titles" and "i'm not the bonjwa right now". i'd say that's a pretty realistic assessment and isn't "overly proud", especially considering he's the #1 terran right now and holds an OSL title. arrogance is when the person misjudges his own ability / importance, and i think flash is pretty accurate in his self-assessment.
This kid is intelligent and very skilled. There's a reason Flash has always been my favorite player and remains so. There's a reason boxer said he'll succeed.
Another thing is that Flash has the balls to be a disliked player in his playstyle. First the Cheese Terran and now the "boring" Macro Terran. But he plays to win and doesn't give a flying fuck whether you think that his style boring or gay. And I greatly respect that.
Also: on the subject of arrogance: If you look at top players of very many competitive activities, most of them are arrogant. To play a game with the intent of "I want to be better than everyone else" requires at least a small degree of arrogance of "I am/can be better than everyone else". A lot of times they're also driven by this self-view of "i'm better, why can't I beat them easily, then?" so they practice a lot. This isn't just true of starcraft.

Just a suggestion Btw, thank you for the interview!

LOL CARRY BIGGEST LOAD LOL WTF?
Flash shall now be known as the "Biggest load terran"
Nice interview.. Thanks for the translation. About the question with Flash's girl type. I think many people here just misunderstand Flash. I dont think it is strange for a teenager (especially asian) to model his girl type to be like his mother. If we (asian peolple) have a great mum, we often model her to be the pecfect women(not sexuality), I many of us want our gf at least have something in common with our mom. I have the same thought when I was at Flash'age young too(I am 24 now) For some people making fun of Flash because he is interesting in Starcraft much more on girls. I think you re just retarded. It is his JOB, he get paid nicely even adults years older than him can not. So it is totally ok for him to devote all his time to what paid him than with the girl, at least until hes a little bit older. When I was in College I studied with many Koreans, At first I was surprise that many of them didnt get laid or even have a girl friends at age 19~23. But when they do have a gf, I m telling you they are like fucking' glued with each other. I think thats just the way the Korean do it. Deal with that and dont flame something or someone you dont fully understand

LOL hahaha that is it wrong that when I first saw this question I thought of it as a sexual question? + Show Spoiler +

On December 30 2008 04:58 AloneInDaBunker wrote: yea the reason there are so many 'lol' or 'keke" is because the interview has been done online.
It's almost 6 in the morning and I don't feel like reading all 7 pages of this thread, but usually when progamers are being interviewed and are asked about their type of girl, they ALWAYS post web links to Korean celebrities they think are attractive. The first part of Flash's answer is basically saying "Well, I haven't used the internet in a while, so I don't know which celebs are getting the most attention right now". Remember that the internet is much more mainstream and used for a lot more different purposes than in virtually any other country.
The "eating helps thing" - I think that most Asian cultures (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) are much, much more food-oriented than most Western cultures. When progamers win something big, all they talk about is how they're going to buy their team a meal. When asked by their team mates about how they'd like their winner to use the money, they always say "I hope he buys us something good to eat" and very rarely do they say anything else. So, when Flash says that eating well helps his condition, it doesn't seem so strange when you realize this part of his culture.
The "lol" issue - The ㅎㅎ and ㅋㅋㅋㅋ are different in that the first one is supposed to be more of a "ho ho ho/hoo hoo hoo" type of laugh. The other one is supposed to be more of a "kekeke" kind of snicker. I supposed the closest way to translate the first one would indeed be 'lol'. Personally, if something like a few LOLs is all it takes to turn you off to an interview with fucking FLASH, then I don't think you belong in this forum.

KizZBG is right, I used to think Flash was the only one being hated on but for every good progamer who came onto the scene people always criticized them.
When iloveoov first busted into the scene believe it or not majority of the people said "he is boring, I rather watch nada/boxer okay? Hes gay." Now look how many people think about iloveoov, the guy is a fucking legend. When Boxer beat Giyom 3:0 and started rising up the korean communities started saying "cheesy and BM terran, you got lucky." Nobody liked Boxer too except a small amount of people at that time. Same thing applies for Savior. So many people hated savior because he kept kicking off everyone else's favorite players hence the reason why he was marked as the villain. Jaedong wasn't really liked at first too. Zerg fans were angry that 'this' guy was suppose to be their replacement as the new Zerg Leader.
It seems like there are alot of new flash haters because, well there are alot more TL members. Sure there are some stupid reasons to hate flash like "durr he laughs too much" but there has always been a fair share of haters for each player.
edit: Also if you want to be cool you have to hate on flash or nobody will hang out with you.

Any moron can tell that he meant the personality of his mother, there are so many western cultures that venerates their mother deeply from Italians to Africans, obviously there's no sexual connotations to what he meant. Also, if you are too stupid to realize, girls go for men that are successful and have money, this kid probably makes more money than you or your parents at his age, he can retire sooner than most people and do whatever the hell he wants, and you are saying he has no life? Please.
it is DAMN IDIOTIC to misunderstand the question about the girltype- OBVIOUSLY it means a girl who is as pretty and nice as his mom and he is only 15. and it is asian culture to buy sth to eat for friends when they achieve sth. and he is a growing teenager and he eats a lot, that's why it helps to stay in a condition. Also, "ㅎㅎ" is more likely "haha" or "hehe" than "lol" so i guess there are some translation mistakes

Gaws he is only like 15/16, he has plenty of time to make a ton of money and then be set for his prime years n_n Also, telling him to get a life is pretty fresh coming from someone with almost 2000 posts here.
Anyway, I enjoyed this interview - shows us a side of the progamers that us as foreigners rarely see as we only get streamed live games and never see any behind-the-scenes kind of footage! Look forward to more of these types of things.
