If those are flush against the top of the map then yes. If not, then no.
I was curious as to whether you get the money back for the unit if the building is blocked, I just tested it and it turns out you do. I always assumed you didn't.

If your upgrading facility dies before the upgrade finishes, you get refunded that too, but you still see progamers sometimes cancel the upgrade just before the upgrade facility dies lol, mostly forward Forge in PvZ (or at least you used to).

That's true, you do see that, I guess the only logical reason to do so would be if you had your backup forge finished before your initial forge dies so you can cancel and start it in the second one straight away

I wish I could remember the specific instance but I remember a progamer jump to his Forge right before it dies to cancel it and he said/acted like he was relieved that he got there in time lol. Was a while ago though TT__TT
Speaking of upgrades, how important are the plasma shield upgs for protoss and what do they actually do? Is it the more plasma upgs you have the faster your shields come up or are they stronger in some way? Also, wondering if you should ever prioritize them to the regular armor, say get +1 shields before you get +3 armor or something.
shield upgrades are just like armor upgrades, just that they work for your shields instead. the primary advantage is that they apply for all protoss units and buildings, whereas ground armor only applies to ground units.
There are mostly two cases where you might prioritize it over ground armor: in a protoss vs terran game where you are going carriers (shields can at some upgrade level mean your interceptors take one more goliath hit, which is a significant difference, and armor upgrades are pretty inconsequential against terran because their units deal so much damage), and a protoss vs zerg game where you're starting to be more archon heavy. (archons having 350 shields and only 10 health). It's definitely good to get shield upgrades in late game pvz - but usually, people who do will get two forges rather than one, and then they're hardly ever prioritizing shield over armor - they're getting both at the same time.
I guess if you make your second forge early (I like doing this sometimes, but it's not very common), your upgrade pattern will be +1 attack from 1 forge, then your second forge finishes a little after +1 attack, you follow up with +2 attack and +1 armor, before you go +3 attack and +1 shield, and then +2 armor and +2 shield and +3 armor and +3 shield.
I think that specific situation, where you choose +1 shield instead of +2 armor with your second forge, is the most frequently occurring example of choosing shield over armor.
there is a significant factor with shield upgrade for late game especially : when a P unit takes damage which hits its shield (has at least 1 shield point) and that same hit also damage hit points, then the shield armor bonus AND the regular armor bonus will apply. And this will keep happening midfight for each of your units anytime they regenerate a shield point, so every hu... 2 seconds or something.
Returning old man (late 30's) after not playing since this came out almost 20 years ago... Decided to jump in and play something that I love to watch and try to git gud.
I used to be a Zerg main but now I want to learn Protoss. Liquipedia seems to have good guides for beginners, any other sources of must read for newbies? Also, I really want a good starting recommendation on the custom hotkey setup for P! Any guides or suggestions on that?

Are you sure on that? Was pretty sure that if it overlaps, only regular armor applies..

yes just checked it again now for example goons with +2armor +3 shield, if your goon has 14shield 100hp and gets hit by another goon for 20dmg (no upgrade), then he will lose all his shield but no hp, because that's a total of 6 armor (1natural armor + 2 armor + 3 shield armor). On next shield regen tick it will gain that shield armor bonus being added to normal armor against a hit again, and so on every ~2seconds.

If you want you can just use default hotkeys they are fine.
