Once again we return to a group stage for the round of thirty-two. Each group consists of four players; the group selection event determines their placement in each group. Each group must go through a double elimination format to determine which players will advance and which players are eliminated. If a player can get two wins before he gets two losses, then he advances to the next round. If he can’t, then he is eliminated. Two players from each group of four will have the chance to continue to fight for this season’s title.
Group A 1. BaBy 2-0 ► Advances to Round of 16 2. Jaedong 2-1 ► Advances to Round of 16 3. July 1-2 ► eliminated 4. Hyuk 0-2 ► eliminated
The number of remaining competitors has been halved as the tournament continues into the Round of 16. Beginning with this round, the tournament becomes single elimination. The players who finished first out of their groups last round will be paired against a player that finished in second. Each pair of players will play a best-of-three match to determine not only who will advance to the next round, but who will earn seeds into the following MSL.
Thumbs Down Since there are four maps, there will be one map in each best-of-three match that will not be played. The players who finished first out of their group are given the opportunity to give a “thumbs down” to one of the maps. What this means is that the player will get to choose one of the four maps that he will not have to play on during this round. This allows the player the advantage of getting to remove a map that does not fit his play style or that he thinks may be imbalanced in a particular match-up.
MBC's new format for the Ro8 has entered its third (and last) season. The brackets from the Ro16 have been discontinued, and the matchups are now determined by KeSPA ranking. The matchups are a Bo5 format, with both players able to thumb down maps they do not want to see played twice.
Hyuk is guaranteed at most one TvZ. So if he doesn't win 2-0, he is assured of at least 2 ZvZ's, which are his strong suit (well, compared to his other matchups, which are pretty horrible). Hmm!
and the PvPvPvP group - that ought to be interesting.
I wonder if Bisu can make it out. I think PvP is favorable for him, even though the others aren't PvP pushovers. I wonder if he can adjust and reduce the flaw that Kingdom and go.go mentioned about him - being super predictable with builds against a good number of players.
So is the sponsor this company/organization called "???" ?

I don't think the MBC folks learn their mistakes yet with their little to none attempts to do something to fix that finals. Which is why many fans boycott it still.
Anybody know what's going to happen to tonight's matches? Jaedong's out sick (so I hear), so are they going to make him forfeit? More reasonable, I'd think, would be to reschedule the match, but if I'm going to be making an OP tonight, I'd like to know before I post it.
I'm happy in a twisted-revenge sort of way because the MSL fucked us out of the most epic finals the late stages of BW will probably ever have. Everyone felt cheated.
So I'm glad they're being embarrassed. Again.
Except I know it's bad for the scene so I gotta man up and forgive them.
Lol guys leave motbob alone. Instead of making him do the work, wouldn't it just take you three seconds worth of effort to click "tourneys," find the match you are looking for, scroll down to "results," and unspoiler them? Seriously.
Not too many big name matchups so far... And I worry with GhostKorean as well, MBC needs to get a sponsor already. Perhaps it will help if Bisu makes it through... And poor Jangbi >.> I wouldn't want to face Flash.
Fantasy vs. Calm rivalry is awesome. Its like a lower class version of Flash vs. Jaedong except I found them just as entertaining as both Fantasy and Calm are brilliant strategist.
I can't read Korean, but I was on Fomos using Google Translate, and it seems that the MSL might have gotten a sponsor. Can someone that knows Korean look up and confirm??

Yes, you're right, MSL now has a sponsor, Hana Daetoo Securities. So it will be called "Hana Daetoo Securities MSL".

No, it's KeSPA #1 vs KeSPA #lowest and so on.
The other reason I'm worried for Hwasin, beyond playing Flash in a Bo3, is that Flash isn't a Zerg. His TvT and TvP aren't even comparable to his TvZ (I would seriously consider LB'ing Hwasin against any Zerg but not many terrans or protoses).
Also It is first place in one group vs. second in another for the Ro16. Matchups based on KeSPA rank happen in the Ro8.
wow many mirror matches on r of 16 and some cool players getting fucked (hwasin again .... what is it with him falling on s class at their peak each time ) waiting for free vs sea / shuttle vs hiya /midas vs jangbi go midas go jaedong
After the Ro16 is over, the bracket is constructed for the Ro8 according to KeSPA ranking. Basically, the highest KeSPA ranked player will play the lowest KeSPA ranked player, the second highest KeSPA ranked player will play the second to lowest ranked player, etc, and #1 and #2 cannot meet until the finals. (So if Flash vs Jaedong happens again, it'll be at the finals again.)

Triathalon seems a lot like Katrina to me. Protoss has an easy time getting a lot of gas, which is good for vs Zerg, and gets the benefit of pseudo island expansions vs Terran.
I think pros have enough maps to practice for. Why would you want to add an extra one which is also very hard for your race if you play Zerg. A natural choice

Yeah I think this is the real reason. If anything it's also saying that the pros think the other maps (Match Point, FS, Odd-Eye 2) aren't soooo bad that they felt compelled to thumbs-down them and practice a brand new map instead.
LOL, those are my drawings! From my preview video last season! What the hell??

You don't have to register anything to establish basic copyright. If they were based in any other country, I could make them take it down. I'm not bothered by it, though. I just think it's funny
Would you rather each zerg be paired with a terran and have none of them survive to the semifinals? Well, maybe JD will make it through against his terran opponent.

Actually, the MSL has Flash and Jaedong, but beyond them, the overall quality takes a deep dive. There's free and Calm on the second tier, and then.. scrubs.
Meanwhile, the OSL is shaping up to have a great PvZ semi-final, and hopefully Movie can beat Pure to make a competitive other semi-final. So while the OSL has a clear favorite, the overall quality is much better. While the MSL has two titans, and a lot of cannon fodder.

Nope, he's not super favourite in my eyes. He is a slight favourite due to the aspect you just mentioned; he has a history of kicking ass in Bo5's. But after the finals vs Flash his ZvT has been mediocre at best, losing like 50% of them and dropping games vs ACE players, while Midas has been showing some excellent performances. I don't believe in magic; Jaedong is not protected by some super natural spell, he is human and he is not guaranteed to win just because it's a Bo5. I hope it will be close and entertaining, maybe something along the lines of JD's 3-2 win vs Canata last year.

You of all (football fan) should know that players play very differently under different circumstances.
There has been a persistant pattern where Jaedong has these mini-slumps and barely manages to claw his way to the quarterfinals of one league; then he suddenly starts playing much better and winning the whole thing in a dominating fashion. Afterwards he goes in a mini-slump again and the whole thing repeats. For over a year now he has won at least one major league every season. If he falls in the current MSL, it would be the end of a phenomenal streak.

Personally I would never count JD out, and with full preparation, he can beast just about anyone. Bo5 flukes can be dealt against and solid play/mind games play a big role.
I've checked the histories of both MSL and OSL and if Flash and Jaedong meet in the finals this time around it would be the first time the same two players meet in the finals of either league back to back.

And rightfully, it's after MSL changes its format to reseed after every round.
Also, I question whether this is the best course of action. It won't be easy to wipe their histories clear, and is it even desirable? They have already turned their success into shame, so erasing some records isn't likely to blacken their reputations any further. In fact, the renown of the players involved is what makes this scandal so abhorrent. Why remove such a key element from the story?
I'm not wiping their histories clear. I'm wiping this R&S thread clear. This is an individual action and doesn't reflect a concerted effort on the part of TL.

Savior and Luxury won those tournaments. Please don't write your own personal history.
I would say, not to erase their names, but like in the after talk thing, they said that erasing their names isn't good enough. They said instead, they should have crosses over their names or something, saying that these guys are fricking match fixing bastards. So it's not that they're forgotten, but they're remembered to be cheaters. Like the Scarlet Letter.
Savior won those MSLs, whether you like him or not. If Nada turned out to be a baby-eating Nazi, he would still be a triple MSL/OSL winner.
The match-fixing simply isn't relevant to Savior's and Luxury's MSL wins. Photoshop a fecal smear on your Ma Jae Yoon desktop if it makes you feel better, but don't take a shit on TL.net by re-writing history wherever you can.

There is not much difference between crossing out a name permanently and eliminating it temporarily. Both are symbolic gestures.
It would be nice if you did not insult me again. Further up this page, you asked me to make progaming history available for future readers. I made that concession by promising to put the names back in in future threads.
C'mon now, let's not turn this into something like WWE did with Chris Benoit.
Whatever you think about them now, does not change the fact that Savior and Luxury won those seasons and were indeed the best at the time those MSL's were played. Trying to rewrite history is just stupid.

I support putting their names in red+crossing them out of future posts. the after-talk was right where in all of the hall-of-fame style places they should still BE there, just with a red X through them and a statement about what they did, disgracing them.

Pete Rose is not in the Hall of Fame. Is the commissioner trying to "rewrite history" by keeping him ineligible?
Damaging the integrity of the game attracts repercussions in this sport and in other sports.

Pete Rose is still in the record books and the World Series that the Reds won with him are still there too.
I just wanna say it's really unfair for not writing savior's name on the history wins. He won by talent and skill back then and the fact that he damaged the image of korean progamming doesn't have anything to do with it.
Your basicly offending all the players that got defeated by him in those msl's and CJ team.

MBC's new format for the Ro8 has entered its third (and last) season. The brackets from the Ro16 have been discontinued, and the matchups are now determined by KeSPA ranking. The matchups are a Bo5 format, with both players able to thumb down maps they do not want to see played twice.
That should be okey for everyone and functions as backup too (if some mysteries way OP decides to remove post or account gets hacked). I think there should be backups rest of [R&S] threads too, unless tl.net has good backups.

Whatever you think about them now, does not change the fact that Savior and Luxury won those seasons and were indeed the best at the time those MSL's were played. Trying to rewrite history is just stupid.
Pete Rose is not in the Hall of Fame. Is the commissioner trying to "rewrite history" by keeping him ineligible?

Pete Rose is still in the record books and the World Series that the Reds won with him are still there too.
And you can still click the R&S threads for the three MSLs Savior won and his name is still there as the winner.
Why am I even arguing about this? I've already said I'm going to put the names back after the season. I am doing what I am doing and you are not going to convince me otherwise with rhetoric about being "juvenile" or trying to "rewrite history" or turning the R&S thread into "something like WWE."
EDIT: Too_MuchZerg, at least spoiler that so that you don't mess up the page.
Throwing in the 2 cents.. (don't really care what you do since it's something minor anyways )
It seems pointless to "?????" the names in a thread specifically designated for R&S. Results and standings should just be results and standings. Not for punishing or blacklisting the cheaters. As it doesn't really punish them at all and just annoys forum regs + newbies who just want to look at the MSL history. Taking down Savior or Luxury's MSL or OSL picture is one thing, but you can't (and OGN/MBC can't) say "oh yeah no one won Lost Saga, Jangbi just got a silver." There's other ways to show your anger/displeasure/disapproval/whatever.
Put a line through them or something or [X]Savior(Confirmed Cheater) which gives the same effect while still actually fulfilling the role of a R&S thread. -------------------------------------- My argument is just based off the principle of a RS.

qft
you're not punishing hwasin/lux/savior/yarnc at all, you're just making it harder for people to follow the thread.

I'm kinda glad you've taken a stand, I think most people should be carrying the names through the dirt as the default, rather the exception.
The 9 are scum, and should be treated as such.
Yea yea blah blah blah blah
Savior still won those tournaments and whether you like it or not was still an extraordinarily skilled player. Period...the end.

You could just go write the names Savior & Luxury on the sidewalk and then stomp on them really hard with your shoes of righteousness, and then take pictures so the internet can see that those players have made you so upset that you don't even want to be rational anymore.

Then get comfortable with the idea that anyone with an ounce of taste and intelligence thinks your actions put you somewhere on the Child <-> Joe McCarthy spectrum.
OK. Let's take a look at what makes you so qualified to make statements about maturity. First, let's take a look at your posts during the OSL finals:

It's nice to know that you know the history of SC:BW better than TLFE writers.
Anyway, thanks for your feedback on my R&S thread!
Whoops, you edited your post too slow. Tough luck!

this doesn't change the fact that you should put their names back in.
You're not punishing the players. You're not "upholding the integrity of e-sports" or anything like that. You're not fixing anything or exacting justice of any kind. All you are doing is making harder for the guy who reads this thread a year from now to try to learn about this particular MSL and he can't figure out who lost to Flash in the Ro16.
I understand you will not do the same in the next R&S thread but THIS thread will still be missing information about the Ro32 and the Ro16 and that's unacceptable (unless you mean that for some reason you're just waiting till after the finals to go back and put hwasin/yarnc in, in which case forget all of what I just said).

After two seasons still not back
Did you seriously bump the thread for this?
EDIT: As a courtesy to people looking for past results, I added Hwasin and Yarnc back into the article. However, as the results of Savior etc. have been re-added in more recent R&S threads, I see no need to cease my protest of the men who did more to kill SC:BW than anyone else.

Well after this post this thread can "die" again but this time less people wondering why there are players missing (who doesn't know what happened that time). I just wanted you to fill your promise and you did (almost) and that I thank you. + Show Spoiler +

I do. They won those seasons. Every thread should be complete. Someone glancing through the history in this thread shouldn't need to go hunting to see the winners of those seasons. Either remove the history section completely or add savior and luxury back in.
I think it's nonsense to leave out Savior and Luxury. At the very least put an asterisk next to the ???'s, and put Savior and Luxury in a footnote with a blurb about the match fixing. The main purpose of this thread is to provide information, after all, and the victories were legitimate.
The tragedy isn't that those players won those MSL's, it's that they threw PL matches. Why hide the facts?
I think putting a foodnote after the ???? might be the best approach.
Just having ???? does seem to make the list somewhat incomplete.
On the other hand people should not be allowed to forget what those people did, and newcomers shouldn't read about their win without getting some introduction into the scandal.
