Results and Standings for the Round of 32
Once again we return to a group stage for the round of thirty-two. Each group consists of four players; the group selection event determines their placement in each group. Each group must go through a double elimination format to determine which players will advance and which players are eliminated. If a player can get two wins before he gets two losses, then he advances to the next round. If he can’t, then he is eliminated. Two players from each group of four will have the chance to continue to fight for this season’s title.

Results and Standings for the Round of 16
The number of remaining competitors has been halved as the tournament continues into the Round of 16. Beginning with this round, the tournament becomes single elimination. The players who finished first out of their groups last round will be paired against a player that finished in second. Each pair of players will play a best-of-three match to determine not only who will advance to the next round, but who will earn seeds into the following MSL.
Thumbs Down Since there are four maps, there will be one map in each best-of-three match that will not be played. The players who finished first out of their group are given the opportunity to give a “thumbs down” to one of the maps. What this means is that the player will get to choose one of the four maps that he will not have to play on during this round. This allows the player the advantage of getting to remove a map that does not fit his play style or that he thinks may be imbalanced in a particular match-up.

Bisu vs Sea is the matchup i'm looking forward to the most in the ro16. the TvZ's could be interesting if the unpredictable zergs (Hyuk, hero) play well.
|
All four of the KT players are still in the MSL. Rather impressive. It'll keep them in playing shape for the proleague finals.
|
how were the match ups decided ?? cause if i was kal i would have protested he's like in his worst state this year and when he was in his peak he got demolished 3-0 by jaedong and effort

wow.. i'm looking forward to every game since there are no mirrors. sucks for the players that have to play their teammates, but i can't wait to see the mind games. i'm so pumped!

Person who came out second in his group had to play JD.
Winner of his group got off much easier in only having to play Roro.
Poor Kal

Poor Kal thanks good to know but with so much hubris about jaedong smashing kal i'm gonna shut up now for fearing to anger the gods of starcraft but frankly though kal is really unlucky damn did it again damn hubris

Interesting how Violet and Hyuk won their pool groups and both now have to play their (generally considered) better teammate in the round of 16.
|
Confused about why people are upset Stork isn't in the Ro16 when it was well-advertised he lost to s2 in the MST. Not a close game, btw.
The brackets look super imbalanced, but maybe that's just me.
|
|
I don't know if anyone noticed but Jaedong is actually the only player still in this whose team didn't qualify for the playoffs
|
effort apparently likes Triathlon's ZvT more than Light likes its TvZ
|
this is gonna be a good round of 16. violet vs flash and hyuk vs fantasy will be awesome. and jaedong vs kal of course.

How does the Ro8 matchups work after this? What has to happen to ensure that Flash, Jaedong, Bisu, and Effort avoid each other so that they could all be in the Ro4?

Odd-Eye 3 and Triathlon are the hated maps. 3 of the 4 who thumbed down Odd-Eye 3 are playing terran opponents but I can't understand the Triathlon one. Is the map just terrible rather than unbalanced?

Maybe they just don't want to spend practice time on a map that isn't used for the Proleague playoffs/OSL

anyone else find it ironic that the one protoss, + Show Spoiler +, that is still technicaly in it has the absoluste least number of votes on the first page? I mean even Tyson got more votes.

Well the ro8 looks fantastic: flash and jaedong, effort calm and fantasy, sea, light and forgg. Kinda tragic that there are no Protoss, but it's a great spread of talent otherwise. And given that the msl seeds the ro8 via kespa ranking, it will likely be a great semi-finals and finals.
|
Anyone realize that there are no more protoss left in the Ro8? 5 terrans and 3 zergs. I wonder how the protoss are doing in the OSL
|
With these maps we could definitely have 4 terrans in the semifinals. fantasy should beat Calm and Light > Effort and Sea > Jaedong wouldn't be huge upsets considering the map pool.
|
JD vs Flash finals once again...... the re rematch.. when are they going to meet in the OSL??? Much more epic proportions.. and no potential power outage..

when are the Ro8 gonna be played?

Are you telling me that any protoss player has a 50% chance of getting into the ro8 just because the game is so balanced?
|
FREEAGLELAND26780 Posts
To be honest, I think based on matchup the only protoss with a better-chance-than-not of getting into the Ro8 was Stats, and he damn well would have if he didn't cancel storm. Kal was fated to lose against Jaedong, Violet was not going to beat Flash, and Bisu is too stubborn to change his PvT.

That's why there's more toss in the top 10 elo rankings than there is zerg, right?
|
Game is balanced, the players just aren't. The top protoss players, stork and bisu, have been slumping for a while. And jaedong and flash nearly never slumps.

Don't worry, he'll come back in time for his next all-kill.

When do we accept that race balance in this game is long dead. That's why there's more toss in the top 10 elo rankings than there is zerg, right? What's so magic about 10? In the top N (1-20), there are
more zerg than protoss for N = 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 more protoss than zerg for N = 10 equal for N = 1, 3, 9, 11, 14, 15, 19, 20
Good job on picking the right number.
Not saying that this implies imbalance, of course.

Why you gotta open old wounds :c

Can't see LighT beating Jaedong over a bo5 series, especially the way Jaedong played against Sea. I think its safe to assume JD will be make it to another starleague final.
Flash vs Fantasy is going to be an epic match, though. I really can't pick a winner between the two; Fantasy is arguably the most in form terran at the moment and Flash is just Flash. Can't wait!

Damn nice ro4! too bad I'm not able to watch any of the games live... not even the finals Fantasy and Flash go go! either one of them I want to win.
|
Looks to be a good Round of 4 this season.
I think Sea has a shot to beat Jaedong to be quite honest.

+ Show Spoiler + JD and Flash finals again! I'm amazed. These two are really the best in the world. There's never been a case where two players have met in the finals in consecutive MSL/OSLs even once let alone twice.
|
Yeah certainly JD and Flash are the top two players, nobody can argue against that. The way Flash disposed of Fantasy in the final game to make the final was just awesome, especially having lost two in a row.
JD vs Flash is going to be another epic final. I am hoping JD plays the way we all know he can do in zvt, if he does, imo he will win it.
|
3rd straight JvF in a row, amazing. Hope it doesn't end up like a failure liek the other 2.

Although sort of irrelevant, jangbi and bisu met up in a back to back final in MSL then GOMTV. But I guess this is the first back to back to back final in the MSL.

Great thanks! We should hype the greatest BO3 final ever!
|
LEEEE JAAAEEE DOOOONNGG!
While no name will ever match with the perfect screaming-ability that is MAAAA JAAAAAE-YOOOON, Jaedong is still a blast to watch and yell in triumph.
I am looking forward to a diverse entertaining series with JD trying to distract Flash's octo-core brain from its unreal typical TvZ. I never think anyone will beat either of these players.
Has there even been a drawn final? I feel like it could happen. No minerals left, JD having only a single drone and evo chamber vs. Flash's floating buildings. You heard it here first.
|
No thread for the finals yet? Can't believe it.... This is F v J people....
|
woohoo dream final incoming soon

Just thought I'd post this here (it spoils the results so don't look at it if you don't want to be spoiled) + Show Spoiler +Flash on the left, Jaedong on the right.

Would anyone mind giving a rough translation of this?

What's the name of the next MSL:
|
GGs, I hope Flash goes down as the greatest BW player ever, the game has evolved so much since Boxer dominated the scene. I dont think Boxer in his prime would have the same success as Flash at this point of time. + Show Spoiler +P.S. Im always glad when Flash beats Jaedong
