KESPA rules say that players cannot pause on their own no matter what. In a case a player does pause the game, whether it was a mistake or not, the player will forfeit the game.
If there is a problem that requires attention, the player can type "p" and the referee will pause the game. If there is a problem with the keyboard then the player will raise his hand.
Nal_Ra seems to have paused the game while trying to adjust his sound settings. Instead of F10-O he pressed F10-P... and lost the game.

You don't want to know what we do to you here if you forget to wear headphones while playing starcraft.

Yeah that's harsh as hell. My guess is they want that because it's usually on Tv. I dunno if it's live, but if so they could enforce it to make sure everything on the show runs fluidly.

yeah wtf is their problem. It was probably in the beginning of the game as well and no battles were fought anywhere and still they couldnt oversee this?
GOOD I'm GLAD HE LOST THAT SOB!~. No, that'd be pretty fucked up if it happened to any other player besides ra or mumy, if they really think it was disrupting the game so much to pause, they should have justre-played it instead.
Yeah I was watching it on TV and i was like oh thats gay....especailly because it was an important game considering that the score was tied at 1:1 and due to that KTF was down 1:2
Chojja won 4th vs Stork but Reach lost to Jju's 5 pool in the 5th game on RH3 so KTF lost total score of 2:3
A rule is a rule. It must be there for a reason.. maybe pausing was abused early on. It could happen couldn't it? A player is losing.. pauses the game.. it might not happen often but it would seriously stop the flow of the game. A no pause rule would be a little overkill..I think the idea behind the rule is to minimize pausing as much as possible. Sure it sucks when it happens to somebody you like.. but you have to make rules as objectively as possible. With something like the hatchery bug you in the heat of the battle it *could* happen by mistake. It sucks, but that's why the referees try to determine intentionality. Something like pausing the game however, will never happen as long as you stay away from the option menu. Especially in this case. Nal_Ra had the entire preparation time to adjust any sound problems he might have. If it were a rookie in his first match I'd feel sorry for him, but a seasoned veteran of televised gaming?
Of course it sucks.. I'm a fan of Nal_Ra and wish this hadn't happened, especially when they were talking about the new T&P 2v2 team and how after that match it would be the new fad. (Apparently KTF had some new strategy planned out)
why not impose a penalty? Step away from the keyboard for 10 seconds when opponent unpauses. I think that would be enough of a slap to stop random pauses...

That would be no different from quitting the game.
They should pause near the start of every game and say "Wait"
Then it would be just like playing koreans on PGT.
This does seem kind of harsh. So I guess they can only pause if something is really wrong. If it was so early in the game I dont see why they didnt just give his opponent the chance to start over if he felt he was fucked over from the pause.
when i saw the title i assumed it was to do with the MSL final and was like oh no wtf happened someone die?
now that i've read this i'm just as outraged i guess you could say. sure the rule is there for a reason, but it's not major. imo rules should be broken in such circimstances, or the rule should be more flexible regarding real life circumstances i.e. put it to refs decision if the player paused the game.

They just replayed the game.
I didn't watch this game, but how early was it?
at that time there is no rule about it.. i think the rule has made...since april [because of the game of Anytime i paused during match i cant remember the reason, and the rule was made]
it was the worst day for KTF fans.. i know a rule must be there for some reason, though T_T

yes there were that kinds of rumor [it was said by old progamer who is in army now, i think half is joke, but dunno] but the coach has been changed since the begiinning of this year.

Garimto? There's a rumor topic in here claiming that this is true
I just realized this, but if the players aren't supposed to pause, why don't they just disable the pause function on the OGN comps/games/maps/something?

It sucks because it was a mistake.. but like I said earlier.. its really Ra's fault too. Why do you think there's such a long time between games? It's so the players can set up. That includes messing with sensitivity, sound, whatever. He had the entire prep time to prepare, then chooses to change it at the start of the game. It was a stupid mistake that resulted in a huge penalty, but the players know the rules. (The rules are shitty imo, but they're there.. and probably for a reason).

Is it possible to disable access to a command like that, much less disable it for the players and then not for the referee/observer?
well...i would like to know about why it is forbidden. Also, there are many many fpsvods of pros that change settings at the begining of the game. Also , they put their earphones when the game starts

You'd have to have a hacked or modified client. And that's illegal.
As for the pause rule, I believe it's enforced because that pause is like a "cheap kidney shot". The pro-gamer is madly macroing, and then his special timing is thrown off by a simple pause. How many coaches stomped around when there was lag or disconnections?

Yes they can, they are just being bitches with rA T_T.
i don't think that changing the code just so players can't pause is worth the trouble(contacting blizzard, paying programers, etc), but there should be for certain some exeptions, like in this case.

i cant remember his ID, [in Korea we call them their name;] but he was a zerg user and one of twins.
couldnt he do it in game anyway? control-m to turn off musics , control-s or just change volume on headphone? what sound settings does he usually change

???
many pros adjust their sound settings during the match.
yeah... and they get about 10 minutes between games (when the commentator are babbling on) to get the settings right. To then do it again during a game, with the risk of doing something like this, is just retarded. Just cos many ppl do it doesn't make it a good idea.

fuck blizzard they wont care, because the game is shown on tv + they dont have to tell about it
programmers? kids from dt's website can make such a hack in matter of minutes I think..
