Can anyone clarify wildcard format? It talks about top 8 from ASL 4, but then lists Bo3 with Killer/Rain and SK/Mind, with winner going to a Bo5. Where do the other 4 from the top 8 come in?

Flash, Larva and Hero are already qualified for Ro16. The wild card will be for the other spot, left vacating after Bisu started military service.

this. Mind, Soulkey or Rain making it through is all good though I'm hoping Mind does. He practiced really hard for the last ASL and has always been a force to be reckoned with imo if things fall into place.
Are Calm and Action likely to qualify? I heard a lot of praise for Movie. Is he a micro extraordinare? Is Shinee planning on playing the qualifiers? Was there any talk of allowing Savior to play in ASL5? Is Beast in good shape now? I thought he was really high on the ladder, is he not as good in tournaments?

Thanks. ASL5 hype!
Depends on their qualifier bracket Movie is fantastic when he played in SSL, even when he was rusty. He had good micro from what I recall. Shinee will likely trying, what does it matter? No and good thing too. I don't believe any of the pros would participate if he tried. Beast was good during the sonic era but I doubt he'll qualify. Way in over his head imo.

Haha. English streams are wishful thinking. We will probably get towatch an official Afreeca stream in Korean, probably for 2 days out of the 3, and players' Afreeca streams.
(Which, just so no one misunderstands me, I think is unbelievably cool compared to how it was - not - before.)
I'll be at the Wildcard matches and will ask about streaming / posting footage from them.
Im planning on going to all 3 ASL Qualifiers too, so if you have any requests I'll do my best to make as much content as I can. Excited to see if a foreigner can make it through to ASL.
Guys cheers! Qualifiers are soon! Someone make a countdown. TT1 told me the Protoss players that we should root for are Rain Snow Best and Shuttle. I hope a Protoss player upsets Flash. I don't think a Zerg will.

If I remember correctly FlashFTW was permitted to re-stream & cast a small portion of the ASL 4 qualifiers, so yes it might be possible to cast an English stream. But that depends entirely on if there's an available korean stream.
Also, is there any information on the location of the wild card or if it will be streamed at all? In-studio seems unlikely considering the GSL is the same day, so I'm wondering if it will be online-only or in a PC bang.
On February 20 2018 11:49 GTR wrote: it is at the studio, you can get through 2 bo3's and a bo5 in 3/4 hours max.
So the only question left is an english stream.
Does seem a bit odd to give the wild card so much attention and give the location qualifers less, so I have to wonder if the qualifiers could receive more coverage compared to previous ASLs.
Hey the wildcard matches are in 16 hours with exciting players like Rain Soulkey and Baxter(Killer). Is there gonna be an English stream or restream? Or posted youtube videos on youtube afterwards? Thank you.
If people are interested, I might consider doing an English commentary VOD (can't do live stream since I have second work after work tonight) for wild card matches.
Looking forward to seeing this. Cheering for Soulkey. I think it can be a rival to the height of Flash, as it happened in the last WEGL. Saudações do Brasil!

Sure, I shall do LIVE English commentary for at least Rain vs Soulkey bo5. Then maybe we can go back and commentate the previous matches??? If Korean VODs are up that fast.
So I was told that I can't do ENGLISH COMMENTARY stream on Twitch because I will get BANNED on Twitch even though there is no legal cause for this. Is that true? Am I not even allowed to stream at all?
Question for all, since I may get banned for streaming on Twitch for English commentary, could I do only AUDIO ENGLISH commentary (w/ Korean audio on too since I can TRANSLATE) and no video and not get banned?
for people that complain tastosis talk about random crap in their commentary, it's 3 minutes in and the korean casters are talking about their holiday experiences in japan lol

As long as you don´t restream part of the original audio it´s ok.

Can't I use FAIR USE law in all this and restream with video and audio + my English commentary? It is a legal law in USA.

I think it's fine during the openings of the game to talk about random stuff to keep the stream lighthearted and open. But sometimes tastosis will begin talking bout random stuff in the middle of the game during a lul when I'd rather be talking about plans moving forward in the game.
those last 2 games were great. Crisp macro, good decisions overall etc... Biggest issue was sometimes the micro but it's ok, having to avoid qualifiers and jump into Ro16 is pretty big.

Hey guys, after a brief reading/research, looks like South Korea has its own fair use law in place that occurred in recent times.
With all these evidence, I have reason to believe I can restream and provide my own commentary for education, research and criticism purposes without trouble. And I have both Korean version and American version of Fair Use law behind me if this is true.
Please either back my claim or prove me wrong otherwise so I can decide if I can restream Seoul, Busan and Gwangju qualifier english commentary restreams for ASL 5...
Those games were so close. Rain basically won on his last ditch attempt twice. What I didn't get was Soulkey's refusal of going up to more than 4 expos. Or expand at all even if an expo had been taken out. He just went all-in every time instead of dragging it out. His army positioning was often weak as well. It always puzzles me how he controls and positions his army in ZvT so perfectly and then does the exact opposite in ZvP. That being said, Rain did a fantastic job with his corsairs in general, not just in the last game.
This is my first ever starcraft commentary, and english is not my first language so don't expect much, but at least it's on Youtube and not afreeca TV! :D
So I think in 17 hours the first Seoul Qualifier starts. And I heard some people like Rapid are going to the qualifier. Rapid said he will ask to cast the qualifier in English. I don't know if it will be an official English cast they post on youtube or not.
In ASL4, 12 players qualified in the Seoul Qualifier and 6 in both the other qualifiers. So get ready for the biggest qualifer in 17 hours.
In ASL4 Seoul Qualifer players like Hero, Sea, Last, Best, Jaedong, Effort, Shuttle, Light, Larva, and Rain qualified. So be ready it is gonna be a supper stacked qualifier in 17 hours.
I wonder if Scan might have a chance of qualifying. Love or hate him it is fun to either root for him or against him. In ASL4 he was one game away from qualifying. I think he beat Stork to everyone's surprise in the ASL4 tournament.
I tried to explain some of how the qualifiers work incase players didn't know. 24 players qualify from the 3 qualifiers. And 4 players are already seeded into the ro16. So 12 players will advance from the ro24 into the ro16 with the 4 seeds.
Cheers to an awesome ASL5. This is gonna be perhaps the biggest bw tournament for months.

Nada will never rise to the top again imo. He practiced hard afaik for last ASL and didn't qualify. He may try again this time but even if he qualifies, I don't think that he has what it takes. His time, sadly, is up.

I knows that. I remember the ASL4, he lost 1 2 with Zerg player who lost 0 2 at the Ro24 of ASL4. NaDa lost Zerg player in the BlueStorm map which was very imbalance for Terran. I think that is NaDa's destiny.
In 2017, I watched Nada and Boxer who livestream, they still keep their old style, it was very classic. Their many games have only micro, almost just 2 base for a game. It's exciting and funny.
I'm willing to stream immediately after work for the entire duration of this qualifier today on Twitch if people can give me assurances I won't get banned on Twitch. Just like ASL4 Qualifier English live broadcasts I've done on Twitch last year, I will commentate in English and translate what people say in Korean to English since I'm a Korean-American.
And if people aren't convinced I could stream in first place, I will use the full extent of USA Fair Use law and Korea Fair Use law (yes, there's a Korean version that I posted on page 7) so I have two possible claims for restreaming on Twitch in English.

The issue with restraining is that AfreecaTV and Twitch are different companies. So you're taking content from one company without permission and streaming it on a competitor. Even under fair use its not a great message to send. AfreecaTV allows anyone to restream any afreeca content on AfreecaTV explicitly so that might be your best bet for a legitimate option.

Your voice sounded really deep (or maybe ASL makes your voice sound higher pitched, dunno), but otherwise it was pretty good. Kind of a shame Soulkey was knocked out though; he's one of the few Zergs with a 50+ winrate against Terrans.
Also I'm not sure if it was answered later in the stream, but Fantasy is in the military still, although he is on the ladder.

Almost made it look imba. Sharp pulled a nice EMP on the bunched up sairs when he pushed the natural, but that engagement with all the dwebs and stasises was too much to bear. Great play!
And I wonder if Sharp was forced into too many goliaths and not enough vult/tank for his big push when he saw the stargate/fleet beacon. Did he expect carriers or is this a normal response?
Tomorrow, 6 slots left for: Last Mong Piano Shinee Sharp Scan Leta Sexy YoungJoo Midas Jaehoon Tyson Britney Pure Lazy Noble Pusan Rock Movie Action Beast ggaemo July Sacsri Check Hyuk Soma Killer
Zoe Summers
DNP: Jangbi Free Nal_rA Reach Zeus Nada Iris Firebathero
Few terrans so far... Mini is really good at pvt, I'm not surprised he won vs Last. That style is hard to play against and his starting builds were somewhat "lucky" (12 nex slowly scouted and no marines produced, 8 gate mid vs FE initially and scout on first try). Those things matter. Either way, really strong performance from Mini.

Well, Mini's PvT is really strong. Even Flash have trouble vs him on stream. That plus favorable opening builds. I still think Last is mad scary. Losing to Sky however, thats an upset. PvT...
Last is definitely a different player now than during KeSPA days. But you can't expect him to perform like Flash.
I think it's likely of the 6 slots we'll see at least 4 or 5 terrans qualify today, with Last, Mong, Sharp, Piano, Shinee, and Scan still to qualify. If 1-2 zergs can squeeze through as well, we could have the most racially even ASL in history!
I'm still blown away by the fact that Last was forced to play in Gwangju. Maybe he's just really bad at fighting non-standard playstyles (사파/sapa). On a sidenote, I can't believe Where made it in so fast, when we all know he's going nowhere past Ro.24.
Also I'm still kind of bummed that no amateurs made it in yet.

any idea who 현지섭 is (terran who beat piano 2-0)

Thanks for the stream, it was an amazing experience to see the qualifiers in person! Also as previous poster said, I really hope you were not banned from Twitch for this, or the videos removed, it seems they were...
I got an email at 3:26 AM (while I was sleeping) from dmca@twitch.tv with a takedown notice received from "AfreecaTV Co.LTD" in accordance to Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). As a result, Twitch took down all offending archives, highlights and episodes related and gave me a 24 hour ban on Twitch.
I could contest the ban but probably not worth going to court over, not that I have a winning case nor do I have anything against AfreecaTV in particular (they are hosting ASL after all).
I did mention during my livestream and even on VOD that I'm going based on USA Fair Use law and South Korea Fair Use law (2 separate laws), and that if anyone had problem with the content, they can personally contact me, PM me, or alert me for discussion. No one, especially from Afreeca, has ever contacted me or PMed me so I assume either a random Twitch user (maybe a Korean viewer) or someone reading TL thread just reported my stream or someone actually from Afreeca sent a formal letter to Twitch.
Either way, I sincerely hope there will be some sort of English casting for ro24 by someone else since I'll lay off low for Afreeca restreams.... or I decide to stream on Afreeca itself (which I won't).
The only regret is that there won't be any archives in English at all for ASL5 Qualifiers....

Anyone know if other casters like Jaeyun also faced similar consequences? I know he casted some qualifier matches on his personal channel.
Also does ASL5 have any English commentary plans? I know Artosis & Tasteless were locked down with IEM Katowice, so I'm assuming there will be some kind of English broadcast (most likely on Afreeca) like previous ASL's.
edit: looks like Jaeyun's VOD is still up...don't want to directly link it but you can watch some of his analysis.
Flash is a VIP though. Maybe it's a benefit of being a special BJ? But then again, I assume what QuickStriker said is most likely. He got probably reported by some random dude.

Damn, that sucks man. I really enjoyed your stream and was lucky enough to catch some games live.

That's unfortunate. For what its worth you did an awesome job streaming/casting; really enjoyed it.

I saw your 2 first stream in between sleeping, those were very good. I can't believe Afreeca did that although there were 0 English stream from them, it makes no sense at all. Could you upload the videos on youtube or something ? Now i feel bad for asking you to reduce the size of your Fair Use law overlay the first day maybe they didn't see it because of that ^^;

I can't say if that stream fell under fair use or not. But I do want to point out the overlay has nothing to do with it. If it is fair use, it is with or without the overlay. If it isn't, it isn't with or without the overlay.
But I did enjoy the stream, so thanks.
Also I would like to point out that Afreecatv didn't lose out because of that stream in my case. I ran afstar1 and KU's stream at once. For his audio, and the higher quality afstar1 video.

There is. The korean one is on afreeca of course and there is an english one as well according to a user here. Just look up the last few pages.
You can also find highlights and such but they aren't in english. Regardless, ASL is Afreeca's tournament so we'll have to respect their decision, especially considering that twitch is their competitor.

The English one was taken down by Afreeca.
I wasn't talking about Quickstriker's/KoreanUsher's cast.
//I tried to change the error on liquipedia and moved Pusan from T to P and Mong from P to T. Hope I did it correctly.

I have VODs of CadenZie's games and streamed Scan's matches on his channel.
I hope everyone enjoyed the videos and streams I was able to do from the event. As always if anyone has any feedback or suggestions I'd love to try to improve the experience in the future.
Finally got my Twitch account back this morning and looks like all ASL5 videos (both VODs and highlights) are deleted. Sorry guys, hopefully next time there can be other ways to make it friendly for both Afreeca and viewers.
If anyone from Afreeca (or whoever reported me on Twitch) is reading this, please contact or PM me and maybe we can talk out efficient ways for ways to potentially stream without being in trouble. I'm willing to dual stream Twitch/Afreeca if that's what it takes.

I liked his play as well back then but he looked a bit shaky in the qualifier.
which part of his play was shaky to you? I saw the highlights, he seemed a lot better than anticipated. Not sure how he stacks against his old self though.

In the first qualifier he did some pretty questionable stuff with his units micro/position-wise, which lost him both games against Best. And I wouldn't call Best a PvZ expert. He would have lost those games under normal circumstances. Considering Calm only recently came back he is looking pretty good though, I agree with you on that part.

Try asking for permission ahead of time next time, though starting out your relationship with a company by pirating their content and forcing them to DMCA you isn't a great first impression.
A girl playing SC 1 in 2018 and playing ASL 5 preliminaries in South Korea and managing to win at least one game is simply amazing. But anyway following the Broodwar scene is a precious gift.
