FBW cup is a new tournament that will be running twice a month exclusively for foreigners. It will emphasize a smooth and consistent tournament experience for the players as the main focus. This topic will serve for all upcoming and current FBW Cups and the OP will be changed to reflect that.
- Date: Saturday, May 19th at 3:30pm EDT (7:30pm GMT)
- Check-in starts an hour prior to start. Tournaments will take place on every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month.
- Where: Channel "FBW" on USWest.
- Due to there still being reports of chat glitches (albeit rarely) it is encouraged to join the FBW discord as it is the easiest way to contact admins if a problem is to occur. For convenience, on tournament day a channel called #FBW-Cup will be created for all inquiries. More information will be posted closer to the time. The discord link is: https://discord.gg/XtGJnvX
- Format:
- Single elimination
- BO3 until finals. Finals are BO5.
- Starting maps are pre-determined for each round and will be displayed on the challonge bracket. Loser picks next map. Maps cannot be replayed in a series.
- Prize:
- Each tournament will have a default $15 prize pool with open donations. Prize distribution is split 50/30/10/10 with no third place match required. Pool may increase for future tournaments.
- Rules:
- Turn rate: Dynamic. Other turn rates may be played if agreed upon by both players.
- Player eligibility: No Korean or Chinese IP addresses.
- Disqualification time: Players who do not show up for their matches 15 minutes after start time will be disqualified and removed from the tournament. Players who do not check-in will be removed from the player pool when the tournament starts.
- Banned bugs: Allied mines, cargo glitch, any bug which allows your units to remain stacked while attacking, flying drones & templars, and terran sliding buildings are all banned and will result in disqualification.
- Disconnects: Matches that result in a disconnect will be replayed unless disputed by a player who holds a large advantage.
- Race Restrictions: There are no restrictions on race. Random, race picking, and switching races between a series are all allowed.
- Casting & Replays: Players are not under obligation to have their games casted live. However, winners MUST upload their replays to challonge or send them to me in whichever medium is most convenient for them as soon as their match is finished.

Want To Help?
- Casters - Anyone is free to add their stream to the event and try to cast matches. Players are not responsible for allowing observers into their matches. If you're interested in streaming, PM me and I will give you admin privileges on the challonge bracket so you may download the replays as soon as they are added. Players are allowed to stream their own matches at their own discretion.
- Admins - At the moment I will be handling all issues and helping the tournament run as smoothly as possible, but I am hoping that I can find at least two other people to help with issues and workload during event days.
- Liquipedia - People who are good with wikis are needed to keep an up to date and thorough entry on FBW Cups.

These are the same rules that have been used for ICCup and all ICCup tournies for many years.
I think it is implying non-air units, as in, workers and ground units that cannot normally be stacked no matter how much you mouse click them in a location. Which is regarded as a bug or glitch, where as air units in BW naturally and intentionally stack even without control grouping them with another unit. They just don't stack as well without help.
Edit: Also to clarify, the new Protoss recall trick is not going to be banned for now. This may change as we see its effect in play and what stances other events use. For now, the only stacking glitches that are banned are ones that have always historically been banned from all foreign and Korean events.

I'm trying to be mindful as much as I can about not getting in the way of other events. Unfortunately, I think Have At You is usually on Sundays, so I am trying to not force anyone to find a new time to host their events.

im against banning shift-queue sliding (if it is sending a worker out somewhere, then shift clicking on a mineral patch, which will result in delayed worker sliding to that patch). but your the boss ^^, gl hf everybody

Hmm, I am not emotionally invested in the bugs & glitches that are banned at all. I just copied what ICCup had as it was the real last platform for StarCraft tournaments and I never knew anyone who had a problem with their rules. I'll look into what ASL bans and try to conform to that maybe. I think it is important to write down rules as a reference point but I don't want to impact anyone's playstyle because I wrongly worded my intentions. Just play the way you do in any other tournament.
Also I love you too gypsy. A lot.

Lol Faust, thats what happens when you copy paste smth without reading it. I was talking about it to admins of iccup on couple of occassions that they should fix that statement but they have really hard time making any changes on their site, including adding one word to rules. And I had to deal with complaint on me, because i stacked 11 bcs into one, preventing them from being smashed by yamatos and apparently there are some people reading rules.

Yeah I read it and I explained my interpretation of it already a few posts back.

I agree with Baku. Leaving from a base by clicking somewhere far and shift click back on a mineral is a legal move. You take a gamble where you get a free pass through units but you cannot touch that worker anymore before it get back.

This is cool. Hope we get some casters for it.

Would like to cast. 100%. PMed

No worries, I'm definitely revising the rules before the tournament starts.
I asked a Korean friend if he could find and translate ASL rules, but he couldn't find them. And then I went around looking at other tournaments and the rules they used. They should be updated by the end of the day and will be more clear and concise while removing some of the more confusing or wrong ones.

Prize pool is up to $41 so far with a week to go. Thank you a lot to seriosity and m4rkym4rk for the donations.
I got the list from Competitive Rules - which are rules that have been used by KeSPA, Teamliquid events, as well as ICCup. These will be the same exact rules enacted for this tournament. These are also the same exact rules that are currently being used by BSL here. If there is any confusion on what these rules specifically mean, please PM me.
To clarify a few points, you may shift+queue exactly as Bakuryu described. You may obviously stack air units too lol.
Edit: Prize pool up to $200+... thank you a ton ty2fan. I'm not sure who you are, but your donation is generous to say the least. I was planning to match the highest donor before the tournament started but unfortunately there is just no way I can match that at the moment. It means an incredible amount to me though, and I'm sure to the community as well. Thank you.

How coverage will work
Really quickly want to go over this due to the nature of the tournament. Due to the rules and the priority on quality matches, casts will not be done live and there is no dedicated caster. However, I will be spending a large amount of time doing what I can so that these tournaments will still be fun for everyone to watch. Also, it is sort of part of our mission statement that ANYONE can cast this, and players may stream their games. The idea is a tournament that will give back and help "grow" the foreign scene, which includes helping streams out and people getting their feet wet casting.
Players: Please try your best to upload replays to the challonge bracket. This is the only way that viewers can tune in and see the matches. Without the help of the players, this event will be difficult to bring to the viewers.
The player on top of the bracket should upload the replays to avoid spoilers from replay text.
Follow these quick easy steps if you've never uploaded a replay before:
1. Click on the pencil icon of a challonge match.
2. Go to attachments.
3. Upload your replays here.
4. You're done!
Casters:
Contact me! Please let me know your challonge account name & e-mail associated with the account.
Once this is done, you will be given admin access so you can view and download attachments from the bracket. All matches will require replays to be uploaded so casters will be able to cast any matches they want as they see fit. If they want to focus on one side of the bracket, they can. If they want to cover both semi-finals, they can. All you have to do is click a match on the bracket, click the paperclip icon, and download the replays and you're ready to go. Also, do not hesitate to add your stream to the teamliquid event when it is running so people know you are streaming.
Viewers:
Be sure to tune in. This event will not have as centralized of an experience as other tournaments, but to remedy this my plan is to release the replay pack after the event as well as make a post after each tournament of "best 5 games" with a short summary of each. If there is any feedback or suggestions, please let me know. It may take a few weeks to get things "perfect" so there can be some growing pains along the way, but I feel quite strongly that this tournament is headed exactly in the direction I want.
Gentle reminder that this tournament does not allow Korean or Chinese IP addresses. I will be removing players who currently reside in either of these locations before shuffling and starting the bracket. I will be sending out PMs tomorrow for people who signed up whom I believe to live in either of these places to clear up any confusion.

That sounds awesome, lets show some good games
|
I'm excited. I'll be playing, and then when I drop out (probably 1st round) moving on to cast. Should be a blast!!
Thanks Faust and FBW for organzing, and all badasses for donating! <3

Starting soon. Posting a copy of the info I posted on discord just as a reminder:
TOP PLAYER OF THEIR BRACKET UPLOADS REPLAYS TO CHALLONGE BRACKET - players are not obligated to have casters in their game. In exchange, please upload the replays to the challonge bracket so casters may still partake in this event. Everyone would like to see some StarCraft and with the way this tournament is directed, it can only happen via the players. If you see that your opponent didn't upload and was supposed to, do so for them instead. Ideally the top player will upload to prevent spoilers. See how here: https://goo.gl/aNfohQ
Seeding Information: As this is the first tournament in the series, there is unfortunately no way to seed players without manually putting in data. The brackets will be completely random for the first FBW Cup and shuffled once at the start of the tournament. Upcoming FBW Cups will continue with whatever seeding algorithm placement thingy mabopper challonge has.
Also, please everyone refer to the original post again if you haven't as I added a reminder.

Why is the Foreign BW Cup OP translated to Korean? Doesn't that kind of like ... make it not so "Foreign" ? lol
|
Good luck to you all! Let's see some big stacked recalls. Rest in peace, Terrans.

I think it's to clarify it's a foreigner only event in case koreans were seeing and reading it.

This is really unfortunate, but this is going to have to be put on hold for probably the next month or so do to my health and the available time I will have on the weekends. I hope that July will be a different story and that I can continue hosting events for the foreign community.
