Maybe this isn't precisely a pro house in the Korean sense, but it's pretty damned big news. Fnatic and Root are coming together in Florida to have a practice house of sorts where they'll be practicing SC2 8 hours a day. This is pretty big news. Catz and Drewbie have been living together for a while, and ROOT.SunDevil has said that SC2 practice was definitely a consideration for them moving in together. I think they've both been improving recently, but with two more top North Americans living with them, they should advance much more quckly.
Honestly, I'm super excited to see what comes out of these guys. I've never been a big follower, per se, of any of their careers, but now I will be.
Anyways seeing as sc2 is online (for BW prohouses were key) and it isnt quite the formal korean progaming house mentality its more of a vacation for nerds than anything else. Awesome, except flordia is a bit hot in the summer. imo a canadian summer training house and a winter house in florida would be ideal, but then again starcraft is an indoor sport so not too much of a big deal.
isn't NASL gonna be held @ south California? why FL? if it was upto me to set up training house, i would set it up in LA where most of Koreans live in United States. Also, where NASL will be held. seem most logical to me.

because catz and drewbie were already located in FL.
This is great news, hopefully it will lead to great results for these players. I'm curious why more of the bigger teams aren't doing this. I knew EG had something like this going on in Arizona, so I guess I thought this was normal.

SunDevil said in a post on another forum:
They decided not to go to LA to live, for now at least though. When you see the format of the NASL I think you'll understand why they are staying in Florida.
That was a while ago, I guess now we know that it's just because a big chunk of it is online.

FXO's got something going on in Singapore as well, but it hasn't totally come together yet and it is "complete opposite of a Korean team house and is a more comfortable environment". Hopefully that doesn't mean they won't be practicing full time over there.
I hope those rumors about TLO's stockholm property search being for a pro house are true.
This is a great trend that seems to be going on. FXO in Malaysia, this Fnatic/Root house, and whatever TLO seems to be cooking up in Sweden. Plus, there's already a mini-EG house in Arizona w/ IdrA and Machine (someone else is moving in, too, but I can't remember). I'm certain there will be a full EG house in Arizona or California soon, as well.
Houses like this can only make these guys better players and improve the overall quality of SC2 outside Korea.

A 40+ year old soccer referee who likes to watch adult movies ? =p
Really happy to hear this. Team houses have always been the main thing to give an edge to Koreans. The sooner that Western teams start forming team houses, the sooner they will catch up.
Team houses are a big aspect of what I think makes Korean's prone to have a better average quality of player. Not just practicing together but living with other people who you can shoot the breeze about Starcraft with to supplement practice would really benefit all players involved. ROOT could become a top team (better then they are now at least) if this is followed through on.
From what I heard, this is not a team run thing, its just
Catz has a house, he wanted roommates, drewbie hopped on and of course thats awesome, two root leaders playing together and stuff, then more players wanting to play full time/boot camp before mlg, so kiwikaki and tt1 go down there to boot camp for dallas, once thats over tt1 is staying, kiwikaki goes back to canada, and then fenix joins in somewhere in between all that?

The article seems to imply that this is definitely some kind of practice house. The reason it's not exactly a Korean pro house is that it's an alliance of two teams, they don't have coaches or cooks, etc. But they are there to practice, and the way I'm reading it, they aren't just staying there for a few weeks or anything(though ofc it's not fully permanent either), so it should function like a real western pro house.

Idk about CatZ and drewbie but TT1 and Fenix have the chance to go there because of the support they get from Fnatic.
Great to hear this!! with this i think that US players like TT1, Fenix, etc. will have a better chance vs korean players, especially in NASL and TSL 3 (fenix). No doubt great news!! :D
This is exactly what NA Starcraft II needs, as well as ROOT and Fnatic. I wish them all the best and look to see what comes out of it in the coming months.

This is a step in the right direction. Players living together allows for an environment that will stimulate thought and hopefully push each other to become better gamers mechanically as well as mentally. Hopefully, more teams will follow suit so players outside of Korea can finally catch up to the Koreans.
On March 16 2011 10:47 Corvi wrote: what happened to the eg house btw. does it still exist?
More or less. Machine lives there right now, Idra is moving in, and I think two non-EG people live there(Inka, of course formerly of EG, and some weird guy).

It's in every Foreigners interest to do something like this. It has been said time and time again about how playing and "living" Starcraft as much as you can is what really separates Koreans and Foreigners. I think this is a great step with NASL coming up and the best of luck to Fnatic and Root :D
On March 16 2011 12:29 LoLAdriankat wrote: Another step towards foreigners being as good as the Koreans.
Yeah this is really big for north american eSports. So we have these 4 in a house in florida, and idra and inka and some other EG people in a house as well. Anyone know any other SC2 eSports houses in NA?
This sounds great, I've always felt that the skill level of top NA players was lagging a bit behind the top EU players but I'm sure this will help level the playing field.
Thought Idra said in an interview he was going to move in with Machine and someone else in EG? Is that consider a pro-house? Well, as long as people are living together and playing starcraft competitively, it is!!
me and kiwi just got here(2-3 hours ago) kiwi is staying till mlg then hes going back home but im coming back, dunno for how long ill be staying tho
fenix will be joining us after mlg dallas and apparently joshsuth is coming over here 2 days before mlg dallas to do something(dunno if im allowed to say wat it is so i wont!)

If I only could get my brother into sc2 competitivly, I could call my parents house a progaming house! xD
So very cool; awesome that there is also racial split .. 2 T 1 P 1 Z should allow for some awesome practice regimes
The age-old argument for SC2 has been that Korean training > Foreigner training.. and that is the difference between Koreans and Foreigners.. Initiatives like these should close the gap! go go!
8 hours? Make it 12 and you'll have the possibility of keeping up the Koreans, assuming you have the approach to the game itself as they do, aside from practice~
Great initiative though, hopefully we'll get more of these practice houses where people can live and breathe StarCraft. EG practice house in Arizona, TL practice house in Sweden (gogo!), lets keep it rolling people!
OMG! I just realized they are moving to FT. Lauderdale! =D They r going to be right next to me! 15 minutes away! =D I actually thought that they were going to move to Orlando, but South Florida? OMG! I am so exited!
I'm a bronze terran player, if a pro house ever forms in Los Angeles, can I join and sweep the floors and take out the garbage and maybe make Silver one day?

This isn't bw. I don't think you need 12 hours to be able to compete at top level play. And from what I gather koreans don't play for 12 hours a day anymore in bw they did because they were forced but sounds like they don't play 12 hours anymore ^^.
i thought TT1 was going to the foreigner house in korea. artosis mentioned the players locking up their stuff so he doesnt steal it all during his tour video

Where in Fort Lauderdale are you guys located? Just give me the city! I'm assuming that you are living in the greater Fort Lauderdale area and not in downtown.
I would guess Plantation, Hollywood or Coral Springs as the likely places.

You don't want to live here, especially on a pro-gamer salary.
It would be a great idea to make the house a reality TV show, I am sure some network would pay for it? Maybe ESPN 2? The MGL scedule run nicely through TV playback season... and it would help offset some costs ..
I like this move because it not is going to increase the pro picture in NA, but i think someone mentioned that fenix is from peru? if this is correct, this then means that we have guys from outside NA coming into NA, which could promote either, a few new players into the mix, or bring some other pros into the NA region. Im really excited to see how this plays out.
Very nice, I'd like to visit sometime when it is up and running just to meet the Florida based SC2 players (ordering pizza/food for all of course) and watch them play and chat. Sounds quite nerdy, I know. :\
Let's set up a meet and greet. There are tons of cool things to do in Florida. Ft. Lauderdale is a beautiful place. I'm sure your Florida fans would love to hang and show you around.
wait until I tell my friend, he will be -very- interested about this. Hopefully Fenix will get serious and also improve his english, would be unbearable to be with a translator behind you everywhere!
Cooool....I've always really loved root, maybe this will help them take it to the next level. Id like to see root in code s I like fnatic too. Big grats to them all
