i took off my skt flair but i just noticed if i had it on this thread would be almost entirely skt fans lol
and after reading adams' reasons for leaving, guess i cant say im surprised. pretty much everyone in this thread had concerns about the same thing. mikes story was coming to an end and everything else they could come up with from now wouldnt be in line with what the show started out to be

SKT best KT
And yeah, I think Season 8 will be a complete disaster. Donna, Harvey, Alex, and Louis are great, but they weren't the central premise of the show. It's just gonna be random relationship drama and superficial law firm lawsuits until the end of Season 8/ the series.

Weird...
Well, Suits is chasing television as USA Network is in the same basic boat as HBO, which is that it doesn't have a future to replace its last best franchise and all the marginally good ideas are being snatched up by Netflix and Amazon. I think Suits is also in a weird place where it can't pivot back to its roots as a light-hearted comedy with Mike leaving, it can't really go darker in its themes in an oversaturated market without getting ridiculous, and it seems a bit cheesy to go deeper into the drama. I mean, the existing story lines are at a place where Harvey and Louis need not even be lawyers any more.
Here's hoping the show can delve beyond romance into legal themes like having Harvey and Louis schmoozing with New York's legal, political, and financial elites. Suits has always been at its best in the dark corners of criminal defense, protecting people in dubious circumstances from overzealous prosecutors.

Suits was best for me any time Harvey and Mike teamed up to kick ass together, and Louis had my emotions spinning between super happy, super sad, and super angry.
|
The only thing Louis is is super annoying, Mike/Donna/Harvey made the show. They're gonna need to fill the massive hole that Mike is leaving, best of luck to them..
|
Louis always had a special place in my heart though
Also, it looks like Katherine Heigl will be joining the show:
Katherine Heigl joins 'Suits' in the wake of Meghan Markle's departure
To fill the void created by the upcoming exit of Meghan Markle, USA Network's is bringing in a new face for season eight of 'Suits.' Grey's Anatomy alum Katherine Heigl is joining the Aaron Korsh-created "Blue Skies" drama as a series regular. Heigl issued a statement saying, “Joining Suits was the perfect organic way to not only collaborate with an EP I admire deeply, but to also become part of a show and cast that I am an immense fan of." Wochit-All
USA has tapped Katherine Heigl to replace Meghan Markle on its long-running legal dramedy Suits.
The Grey's Anatomy star will play Samantha Wheeler, a disruptive new partner at the law firm when production begins on Season 8 this April in Toronto.
“I have watched Suits from the very beginning and feel incredibly lucky to be the newest member of the Pearson Specter Litt family,” Heigl, 39, said in a statement.
In his own statement, Suits creator Aaron Korsh proclaimed, “I cannot wait to have her come play with our entire cast and crew. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Harvey, Louis, Donna and Alex as the mysterious Samantha Wheeler is a direct threat to their status quo."
The Emmy-winning Heigl, who left Grey's Anatomy in 2010 to concentrate on her then-hot film career, has since starred in a pair of short-lived TV dramas, NBC's State of Affairs and, more recently, CBS' Doubt.
On Tuesday, USA announced that Markle's final episode will be April 25 and that Dulé Hill, a veteran of The West Wing and Pysch, would replace the departing Patrick J. Adams. https://ci-www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2018/02/01/katherine-heigl-joins-suits-wake-meghan-markles-departure/1085823001/

This episode featured some alternate universe where Mike causes Rachel-level petty drama with Rachel being the voice of reason, and Donna makes a Louis-level screw-up with Louis setting her straight.
Also, I feel really bad for Paula and Harvey. They were happy and Harvey was sincerely trying to make things work, and then Donna's kiss really screwed with him. The line about how Donna made him into the one thing he didn't want to be (a cheater, because of his parents) was really sad.
Also, why isn't Mike ready to be senior partner yet? I know that it typically takes more time but he's quite atypical, and Donna gave no reason at all.

But the episode was weak. Far too much drama, not enough lawyering. And nailing Jessica to the cross just feels like a shitty out.
|
Yeah I'm not fond of them throwing Jessica under the bus for good, but that + her move to Chicago is preparing for the Jessica Pearson spin-off, which is decent timing since Suits is probably going to get worse with Mike and Rachel gone. (I assume the spin-off will be at the same time/ after the time period of Suits, rather than a prequel, although a prequel would be pretty awesome imo.)

loving the new episode! why does harvey seem to be so unsure of himself lately?
|
In what way? What do you mean?
|
he isn't as sure of himself unlike the previous seasons where he just kicked ass. maybe its because he is name partner now.
|
The show is bending over backwards to make Spector Litt into good guys even though we always knew they were supposed to be neutral in corporate litigation, dedicated more to doing the best for their clients rather than the "good".
I do like the exploration of Litt as cuckolder and not liking it. Harvey remains as headstrong and impulsive as ever.
Mike needs a Mike.
|
Mike's Mike was Oliver, but with Mike and Rachel leaving the show, I think the writers' first priority for character development is making Katherine Heigl a good fit.
