Not useful magic, necessarily, because flaming swords don't do very much (unless you're pyrophobic like Sandor), but magic nonetheless. If it can kill White Walkers and block their weapons, that is enough to be useful. Nothing indicates that Beric's cheap parlor trick sword does anything against white walkers. Although any fire is obviously useful against their footsoldiers. Of course. But in a world of half remembered magic, legends and massive walls that defend against forgotten things, I bet a cheap trick wasn’t created just to show off. Maybe that is what people use it for not, but maybe someone really needed a flaming sword a long time ago. This is just speculation though :-)

Totally forgot. Thankfully I asked for Sunday night off and it was given.
Wish HBO would act like AMC and other networks and allow people to buy the Season on iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon in advance or while it was being broadcast so people could catch each episode after it airs. No idea why they don't which is stupid IMO.

because they have their own direct to consumer sales model, they don't want a middleman.

That's the opposite of what I had to go through. I found no way of subscribing to HBO Now on its own using my pc. I had to subscribe using the Roku stick on my tv. I can watch it now on any pc by logging on to hbonow.com but there was no way to subscribe on that site. People have to subscribe using itunes, google play, roku and the like. It's a really silly way of doing things.
HBO Go is only available if you have a cable subscription. Streaming services count.

I get my HBO through Amazon and watch it using my PS4. Definitely convoluted setting it up but it works fine.

Except to get to have HBO Go one already has to have HBO. Those that would go through Google Play, iTunes, Amazon would have pre-purchased the season meaning They have spent the $$$.

HBO wants people hooked on HBO, not Game of Thrones (or any of their other exclusive series). Which might seem stupid in the modern age, but that's what their top brass wants, and that's what their top brass gets.

Some of the miniatures painted up including Jaime and the Mountain.

You could try local streaming apps like PPTV or LETV, I don't remember which has it. But it's censured (no sex scenes, much sadness). And it comes months after (censuring takes time). Just torrent it :D

I think it's kinda stupid to want to fight piracy and on the other hand not make this stuff available to people who actually want to pay for it. Whatever HBO the way of the high seas it is then if you won't take my money..

Was looking into how to watch this in good quality from Germany.
For Germans the best way is to get the sky ticket entertainment test abo, it will cost you 2 euros until August 31 and would cost 9.99 per month starting from september 1st, but you can just cancel it before then.
Episode 7 is set to air on August 27th, so every German can watch the full season 7 for 2 euros .
Added bonus of having access to the previous 6 seasons and a bunch of other shows included in the entertainment package.
Edit: https://skyticket.sky.de/ just pick the entertainment package on the bottom left.

If you can't watch it legally on time in your country just find an illegal stream to watch and then buy the DVD/Bluray w/e when it comes out. You support the show and still get to watch the episodes on time. HBO's own fault for not providing adequate services.

Here HBO costs a little over 4 euro per month and we get 6 channels. Pretty sweet.
