I didn't realize that demi humans are supposed to grow that fast, but I'm not complaining. I mostly wanted to see their month long development and to me, it seems like they pretty much became "close" in a single episode (him buying her, beating that bunny then the dog creature etc...) yeah agree + Show Spoiler +I think that in particular really shows that the author only cares about how his MC looks in theses situations and came up with it specifically for that reason rather than actually play them out.
The trauma -> bunnyfight -> dogfight stuff was included because he wanted to show that the MC still treats her decently because she's a slave/kid, rather than an adult woman. But other than that it feels completly irrelevant to the story. Or at least it feels that way to me with them establishing it, dealing with it and getting over it in all but one episode.
Nor do we have any inside on what the other 3 heroes are actually doing. You call them assholes but to this day I really don't know if they're assholes or if they're just that stupid and going full Dunning-Kruger while being oblivious to the situation. But that's sort of the point? Shieldbro our protagonist is shunned by the world and actively tries to avoid contact with it as much as possible. At this point in the story he even struggle to fully trust Raphtalia. Just like nobody else wants to see or hear his point of the story, we as the viewer dont get to see or hear the others side. Right now all we know about the world and the other heroes are what shieldbro know, which in my mind makes perfect sense from a narrative perspective considering it's a story of an outcast that dont want anything to do with anyone. + Show Spoiler [from manga] +What the other heroes have been up to and are doing is slowly revealed as he opens up to the world and starts interacting with it. hence me starting the conversation with stating that I'm kind of okay with it now and see why they would ignore the other heroes and the racoon girl in the first 2 episodes. Or even first 3 episodes because #1 was essentially double episode.
It's not how i wanted it to play out but I can kind of see why the author did it this way and didn't want to "waste time" on other characters.

Personally I find it pretty nice that for once there's a show where the it makes sense for side-characters to be "ignored" due to the story's structure and theme rather than just negligence/laziness.
+ Show Spoiler [small spoiler] +It's a neat little narrative tool that as the story progress and he soften up to the world more is revealed about all the other characters.

Not to mention that Mob Psycho is back too! That harem sister anime seems ok so far, pretty standard. Then we got slime isekai, run with the wind, SAO and black clover from last season or more.
Have yet to try this neverland anime, and not sure if I want to watch another season of Kakegurui. Anyone here watching "it's our fight senpai"? lol.
edit: think only thing I would've liked is to see some more combat that involves character development in the early episodes for shieldbro. Neverland is very good so far. I think it's definitely worth it to at least try it.

I didn't have much hope for Kaguya because most adaptations tend to be shit, but they've absolutely nailed this one somehow. Good voicing, excellent direction, and enough attention to detail to show that they actually care about how the material is presented. The eyecatches are taken from the tankoubon end of chapter doodles. There's a half second throwaway yeti joke. I'm also surprised that one joke in ep 3 got approved... Somebody even had the foresight to work a gag into what would've been a repetitive intro.
My only gripe is that "how cute" was executed better in the manga, but that's tough to replicate.
The ED is clearly rotoscoped but they put some decent effort in cleaning it up so it actually looks good. It's pretty fitting too.
All in all, amazing adaptation. It's enjoyable even though I know exactly what's going to happen.

The ED in question: https://upload.moe/files/kmlktm.mp4
Its cool because the song and her poses are mostly references to things in the manga and it is said they have EDs planned like this for each of the other council members.

Wow, did Kaguya have an amazing ED for episode 3. Oh, I think, she is just lazing around on a desk then...it happens. Completely blown away. The animation for the ED is amazing. I never read the manga, and the narrator seems so irritating and unneccessary, but Kaguya is certainly shaping up to be one of the best this season.
|
yeah Kaguya has been pretty good so far. I'm not too much into that new ED aside from the dance being amazing but I guess you have to read the manga to get the references and all that. The OP is much more my kind of thing and it sounds & looks so good. Reminds me a bit of Death Parade. Maybe not that good but somewhere up there.
On the other end of the spectrum, SAO got a little bit better this time around. I swear the episode before suddenly looked like poop out of nowhere. Maybe A-1 being too busy making sure Kaguya ep1 delivered? But most recent SAO was a bit better again. Not amazing but at least not derp.

omg SAO was something else today... and not in a good way
Neo and I were watching it together and we just kept laughing about how ridiculous the situation was. + Show Spoiler +Them hanging on the outside of the building for minutes. Kirito holding onto his sword with one hand and with the other holding a knight, completly clad in (gold) armor. And they're hanging on like that for minutes, talking about god and the world without a care in the world. [for people not watching it, they're probably somewhere between the 40th and 50th floor] And then the sword loses grip, the situation basicly swaps, she now holds him and they continue. And then climb upstairs. Like 40 floors by swinging around a pole stuck into the wall, landing on top of said pole and then pulling up aforementioned female knight clad in armor. And when I say pole I mean pole. A round object to stand on and to then pull knight up to. Not some kind of platform you can actually stand on or anything like that (because then Kirito couldn't make a cool flip around it)
Clearly best SAO has ever been so far

Toad are you telling me this isn't the SAO that solves all the previous issues with the series and makes it godlike as the fans have always promised?!
|
oooh, I forgot! Sally Amamaki, the meme idol girl who speaks english because she's from LA and then came to JP had a role in Kaguya. She voiced the french girl in ep4.
and another tweet from her got deleted, but i posted it on discord which autoimplemented it so I can still screenshot it:
this girl

Clearly best SAO has ever been so far See, just more proof that you can't trust SAO fans. Alicization baits people into thinking "hey maybe SAO isn't actually bad", and then it turns out that yes, it actually is bad.

+ Show Spoiler [Mob Psycho ep4] +I honestly didn't expect the twist in the end. That's interesting but what a cliff-hanger...Will be interesting to see how he fares without his powers, just as he started to grow his personality.

^ Mob Psycho continues to deliver every episode. One of the best anime this season and one of the best all around imo. Also, slime-isekai is still fun to watch . I can already predict how this next arc will end, but it's nice to have a relaxing anime where you can tell how things will somewhat go, even if its a bit predictable.

Clearly best SAO has ever been so far hehe. I didn't read your comment, just figured that something ridiculous has happened and then figured + Show Spoiler +the pole climbing+crazy stamina+that huge swing at the end to get to the ledge was what you guys were talking about but sure, let's also focus on all that stuff prior to the climbing lol. I didn't pay it as much attention since this is the usual stuff and I'm sure other anime have pulled off things that are just as ridiculous.
Honestly, one of my biggest pet peeves in anime is the fact that characters will sometimes do stupid meaningless crap. Like, let's say their goal is to grab x and it's right in-front of them. Logically, you'll just grab it asap and get the hell out of there. But some characters will do something totally different and that changes the whole situation, typically making it worse. Basically, they take unnecessary actions or are too slow when their goal is right there. + Show Spoiler +Example is this last fight between Kirito and Eugeo with Alice. All they had to do was use the mini-dagger that was given to them, and Kirito even immobilized Alice but of course Eugeo had to be slow and take his damn time. Like seriously, this whole wall breaking and them hanging on the outside bit wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for that in the first place. Granted, they wanted to show those dark creatures and such, but surely there must've been an easier, better way to do it.

About speaking French in Kaguya, they must have hired a French voice actress for a few words as there were proper French words with unmistakably French accent spoken earlier in the episode for some minor speech, but for some reason they decided not to go with whoever they hired for the lengthy "insults" which sounded like garbled nonsense.
As for SAO, nothing really makes much sense. I still can't figure out why the wall exploded and reassembled itself on the previous episode.

They were not meant to be understood.

yeah the conversations in the beginning were proper french. Both the guy and the girl. In the guys case the french was far from perfect but his character can't speak french to begin with so that was clearly wanted that way. Kaguya herself spoke pretty damn good french. From my pov as a german who had french in Highschool comparing it to usual english or french or german performance in anime. The things after that, like slaughter said, were ment to be gibberish. Supposedly gibberish in the manga as well because they didn't want to write out harsh insults in the manga and same reason for the anime (I'd assume). We'll have to see how it turns out from now on to really judge sally's french I think.
|
I find it odd that speaking foreign languages often sounds so terrible in anime. These VAs are all really talented people. Is it just a case of the production not giving enough care/time for the VA to nail the language being used?
|
yeah ikr. With all the money that goes into the production you would think they would just hire someone for their VAs to practice the 2-3 lines or whatever it is they have to say to make sure it at least sounds decent. Rather than, you know, VA trying to mimic Siri voice without any input from a real person whatsoever and recording has to be done in 10 minutes because lol, noone in JP understands that anyways.
There are also a couple VAs who grew up abroad and hence have good german/english etc but seems like people just don't care and so they don't get hired for those roles any more than someone who can't speak the langauge
|
I imagine the average Japanese viewer can't tell the difference between good french and bad french
|
I'm not really talking specifically about the French stuff, just in general. I don't know these languages but it's pretty obvious in most cases that the foreign language they try speak is just absolutely awful. The English is often unintelligible. It's just weird since I'd expect these VAs to be able to speak a few phrases in a passable way if they practiced. They don't even know the language, just how to say that phrase.
