Western Wolves' SortOf
- The big bad wolf -
This is a fan club dedicated to Rickard Bergman; someone whom you might know better as the Swedish Zerg player SortOf, who most recently showed very good results in the Swedish qualifier for the World Championship Series, falling in the finals to ThorZain in very close fashion after crushing through players such as SaSe, Naniwa and Seiplo in the lower bracket.
SortOf is a player who has been lurking around in the European scene for quite a while; silently stalking his prey in weekly online cups and unexpectedly dashing out of the woods to win yet another tournament seemingly without too much trouble. His success has slowly grown greater over the last few months and his exposure in the community has been steadily increasing. Participating in the MLG Summer Arena, SortOf impressively defeated IM's First 2-0 in the first round, a player who did extremely well in the stacked Korean qualifiers for TSL 4.
Despite not reaching very far in that tournament, we know that Western Wolves are prepared to send SortOf as their representation at big, prestigious events and that tells us that we will probably see him a lot more in the future. SortOf has had his best results on his home soil in Sweden, winning NärCon, a swedish IeSF qualifier, by defeating the likes of Naniwa and Naugrim, taking second at the E-sport SM, a swedish national championship and now yet another silver medal at the WCS qualifiers.
Apart from this recent LAN success of his, a piece of trivia is that SortOf has won 15 playhem daily cups, taking second in six and third in three. This clearly shows his consistency and skill which will probably be shown even more in future tournaments as soon as he feels completely comfortable on the main stages.
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? Well, you should all be because this here is a badass.

The Direwolf killed everything in his way including the Kingslayer but eventually falling to the King of the North himself
|
Looking good for a start of fanclub. Maybe some media/interviews would be a good addition.
Loved his play this weekend, amazing!
|
Yeah, but I think that by the time of the next Dreamhack he will have become a full-grown and bloodthirsty Fenrisulv. : )
Edit: Good advice! Will check for some of that!

Just a question for a more experienced TL poster; how do you format the text to add colour and different font sizes? Is it regular HTML code or is there some sort of (hah) tab for that?

Thanks! I'll add that to the description! I was just waiting for somebody else to make the fanclub since I'm inherently lazy myself, but it never was made and I thought he deserved better than that. ^^

So tomorrow, SortOf plays in the first group stage of Assembly Summer. His group also contains HerO, Elfi and Fuzer so even if HerO obviously is a HUGE obstacle, SortOfs chances of advancing to the next stage look promising. : )
Let's see him kick some Ass(embly)!
|
|
Hahahaha SortOf you are one sick SIR! gg!
He beat Hero 3-2 ending the game with a sick spread + neuraling HerO's mothership and depleting it's energy by vortexing twice.

For sure But he really needs to win with as big of a margin as possible. Best thing would be if he 3-0's Kas. If he does that and then Titan goes 0-3 against TheStC then it's truly an open playing field.
TheStC is at 6-2 Titan is at 5-3 SortOf is at 3-5 Kas is at 2-6
And in my last post ofcourse i meant ro8 not ro4
SortOf 3 - Kas 2
I believe! But omg SortOf has to win with 3-0 to advance to ro8

We have very, very big things planned, no worries.
If you don't follow other games we are a big foreigner org, our SF4 player won EVO2k12, we have the #1 World COD4 team, Top Fifa players, best European Halo team etc
So proud of SortOf, I picked him up about 6 months ago, and i've watched him grow during that entire time, it's been a truly wonderful experience, he's the nicest, most humble guy I know, and he deserves all this success and support he's getting!
|
|
Sigh, Moon turned out to be one tough cookie Nevertheless, beating Hero, Kas and then getting revenge against Titan was nice, hope to see more wins from SortOf very soon!
|
I missed the match but maybe that was for the best anyways
There's no shame losing to MooN though. He is a beast right now and his apm is off the hook as always.
But this was a really successfull result for SortOf nontheless. And more will come!

"Sortof is the underdog"
really? Sortof is like thousands times better than demuslim. He's so underrated. They just dont know it yet
|
that's pretty much the definition of an underdog ;o
|
No, the definition of an underdog is the player who is most likely going to lose. Its not the same as being underrated rofl.

Its not the same as being underrated rofl. you mean player who is THOUGHT to be the most likely to lose, as perception is reality in the minds of someone making judgments on a player's skill.
so being underrated can lead to people THINKING that he is the underdog, which is the whole point that was being made.

Come on SortOf! You're way better than Slivko!
|
Feels like when he said "Good luck you're gonna need it" to Slivko SortOf jinxed himself.
imo SortOf didn't play like his usual self but that's just how i feel.
|
Jävligt synd att du förlorade mot slivko men grymt kul att se dig ta dig förbi gruppspelet, kul att ha svenskt hopp så lång in i turneringen :D
|
Show him your support guys, he's feeling very down about this weekends results!

Sign me up. Great guy, great player.

Hey SortOf!
We've all seen what you can do, and you know what you can do as well. When it comes to bigger tournament stages, it becomes just as much a game of nerves and keeping cool. A lot of players go in full of confidence all gung ho and over eager and end up losing just because of that.
I did so myself at my first big tournament (European MtG Championships). I got over eager, bombed out and of course managed to sweep clean house in the non mattering side tournaments afterwards. I beat myself up over it so much after i got home. I never ended up going to any more big tournaments after that so I still beat myself up over it today.. knowing that the NEXT time I'd be much better equipped to handle it.
What I'm getting at is that with your amazing skill and talent you WILL be going to more tournaments, and now you have more live stage tournament experience under your belt. You'll be able to look at how you reacted to being on big stages from both IEM and earlier WCS Sweden, and you'll be able to adjust accordingly. And once you do, your opponents better watch out!
Good luck out there, use this "failure" to get even better next time!

Sign me up. Great dude, good skills, stream is fun to watch, interacts with the watchers.

Just gotta say, that game vs xvchkgwekrtg just now on stream (ZvP on Ohana) was insane. I've never seen someone take such a beating throughout the whole game and still win.

It was a rough event, he did manage to win esport SM during the day, and you can still cheer him on vs MC in the NASL ro16 for a chance to make it to the NASL Finals in the USA!

The last time I saw him play really good was at Dreamhack Open Stockholm where he was top 8 and second highest placing foreigner. He seems to have fallen off a bit since then, unfortunately. Hope to see him do well in challenger, obviously.
|
Man, keep fighting and make sure you atleast stay in challenger again
|
Thought he had it there vs Grubby... Really close second game.
Keep fighting though, Challenger isn't over yet.

SortOf is forfeiting his challenger group to play in the DH Winter qualifiers, source; twitter

Might be a smart move considering we don't really know what Challenger League is going to lead up to next year. I think the qualifiers will be super-hard, though, seems to be a lot of big-name Koreans signed up. Time for a return to top shape? My fingers are crossed.
EDIT:
Awwww, he got knocked ut first round by Zanster. No shame in that in itself (Zanster has been playing really well lately) but it sucks that he prioritized a qualifier in which he lost immidiately. :/
Hope to see him back on track soon. Keep fighting!
|
Qualified for Challenger league. Awesome.

Beating all dem tosses. Practicing with NaNiwa payed off as NaNiwa is beastly in PvZ so SortOf hopefully got some out of it.

EDIT: Well fought today!

|
SortOf is going to practice in Korea for WCS
|
Good for him. I hope he may be able to participate in GSL Season 2 qualifier.
|
nice hope it gives him a boost in his skills
|
From DH Summer, yesterday
|
Surprised there's so little going on here, maybe people don't remember that Mr. Mechanics has a fan club?
Some good games in GSL Code S, took a game off of sOs! Hope to see you tackle another GSL soon.
|
For his first GSL, vs 3 very strong players, I think he did well. Doesn't look like he was nervous or anything. I hope he will do well at DH coming up and perhaps give it a shot at GSL again in the future. I personally like his interview, very humble and modest. Such a nice guy.
