It also settles the debate if Destiny 2 is a game for everyone, nope. Bungie seems to have made an agreement that Streamers be the preferred player they create content for. But congrats to the authors of French history and literature. Winners of the day from this mess of shit.

It's to unlock the content, Bungie has literally locked and time gated content that players paid for. Which more than likely is just another copy and paste forge. I can barely even wrap my head around the puzzles and solutions here to even explain them. The main mechanic of the room is that players stand on different floor symbols and shoot other symbols on the walls with specific Black Armory weapons (the sniper, bow and MG) in a specific order. This builds on past cipher puzzles that have appeared with other forges, but those have been largely ignored by most of the community because there wasn’t much point to them other than unlocking an emblem or two. But now, all those puzzles are essential in solving this riddle which unlocks content for the entire community. The puzzle has found past solutions in French songs, classical poetry and actual history, with the final code everyone is stuck on based on the jewels embedded in French King Charlemagne’s real life sword. I’m not kidding. All of this to unlock one of four forges that is probably going to be 5% as interesting as any raid. Fans have been complaining that Bungie designed this content for streamers. Bungie and defenders have fired back saying that anyone can attempt this puzzle, though Bungie literally linked to the Twitch directory page the moment Niobe Labs was launched telling players to watch the “best and brightest” attempt it. But it’s hard to view this as streamers’ fault, necessarily, because after 19 hours of this, the remaining ones look like they’re on death’s door and I am genuinely worried this might kill someone. Streamers are getting more viewers than usual, sure, but Bungie has put an insane amount of pressure on them to unlock this for the entire community, since despite what they say, only a scarce handful of players even have a prayer of solving this riddle. Community members like Datto, Gladd, Teawrex and others are the “chosen ones” for the community because people like them have solved all Destiny’s past mysteries. But as we approach a full day of attempts here, this is well beyond anything we’ve seen before, in a bad way. The problem is that even if this is content for streamers, it isn’t enjoyable to watch. We are essentially at a phase where people just have to guess at a password, and the way Niobe Labs is set up is that you have to go through a full six waves every time you want to make an attempt or two at the code, a 10-15 minute process where you have to re-fight all the old enemies and re-enter all the past codes to move forward. It was interesting to watch for a few hours, maybe. It is now absolutely painful here at hour 19. This is now the third time since Black Armory launched that the community has logged on to play only to run into a brick wall. The first was the insane power requirement of the original Volundr Forge which locked out a huge chunk of the community (and many still haven’t beaten it after essentially being initially turned off). The next was the unnecessarily lengthy Izanami Forge unlock quest that no one wants to beat on more than one character ever. Now we have Niobe Labs which is quite literally preventing the community from doing anything meaningful until someone solves it, even though many cleared their schedules yesterday to experience new content, only to find that once again, they’ll have to wait. This isn’t even a debate between casual vs. hardcore players at this point or what’s endgame content or not. This is just not a good way to roll out stuff. I do not mind the week to week schedule which stretches out releases over the course of a season as it’s a reason to look forward to each new development. But it’s something else entirely when you keep slamming into these gates time and time again, and fool me three times, which is what we’re at now, and I don’t blame those who are ready to walk away entirely. This is just not how anyone wants to see new content released, even most of the ultra-elite this is supposedly being crafted for. Source

Forcing people to repeat all previous waves was a horrible idea and so was locking new content people were expecting behind it. Compare how this mystery was receives with something like the mystery's that have been added to WoW, where you have a community working on it for days. Because it hides a nice reward without tens of thousands of people breathing down your neck wanting to experience new content. Now its just another epic fail in an already disappointing game release.

Not an easy campaign for casual players to mow down in 12 hours. "for the Annual Pass we want to give you a new way to pursue the end game" "we are definitely adding to the end game" "the nature of trying to surprise people is that sometimes you are going to land things and some times you are not" So far I'm happy with the Annual Pass... but its hard to make a final call on the $30 i spent until August. Players were informed this is what is coming... a layer of $30 of end-game-content over 9 months. Bungie even acknowledged in the video i posted that some of their "surprises" will miss the mark. Of course, if you never take chances you'll never fail. Making a final judgement on the $30 Annual Pass a few weeks into it is jumping the gun. I can't say for certain whether I'll be happy with it or not.

I think my playtime may decrease further for the next season, though, as the lack of a new raid and the staleness of the primary game mode for the expac (Gambit) combine to make me completely uninterested.

When we first launched our partnership with Activision in 2010, the gaming industry was in a pretty different place. As an independent studio setting out to build a brand new experience, we wanted a partner willing to take a big leap of faith with us. We had a vision for Destiny that we believed in, but to launch a game of that magnitude, we needed the support of an established publishing partner. With Activision, we created something special. To date, Destiny has delivered a combination of over 50 million games and expansions to players all around the world. More importantly, we’ve also witnessed a remarkable community – tens of millions of Guardians strong – rise up and embrace Destiny, to play together, to make and share memories, and even to do truly great things that reach far beyond the game we share, to deliver a positive impact on people’s everyday lives. We have enjoyed a successful eight-year run and would like to thank Activision for their partnership on Destiny. Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce plans for Activision to transfer publishing rights for Destiny to Bungie. With our remarkable Destiny community, we are ready to publish on our own, while Activision will increase their focus on owned IP projects. The planned transition process is already underway in its early stages, with Bungie and Activision both committed to making sure the handoff is as seamless as possible. With Forsaken, we’ve learned, and listened, and leaned in to what we believe our players want from a great Destiny experience. Rest assured there is more of that on the way. We’ll continue to deliver on the existing Destiny roadmap, and we’re looking forward to releasing more seasonal experiences in the coming months, as well as surprising our community with some exciting announcements about what lies beyond. Thank you so much for your continued support. Our success is owed in no small part to the incredible community of players who have graced our worlds with light and life. We know self-publishing won’t be easy; there’s still much for us to learn as we grow as an independent, global studio, but we see unbounded opportunities and potential in Destiny. We know that new adventures await us all on new worlds filled with mystery, adventure, and hope. We hope you’ll join us there. See you starside. BUNGiE Source

The cynic in me sees that as a sign Destiny was doing so bad Activision was glad to be rid of it. Still, I look forward to what this will mean for the game and more importantly their business model going forward. Does Destiny 3 still happen now that Activision is out of the picture?
