It's funny how things go sometimes. After ten months without announcing a new recruit, here we are unveiling our second signing in just as many weeks. I am extremely proud to announce that Song Hyun Deok (aka "HerO") has joined Team Liquid.
We have been working with oGs on acquiring HerO for quite a while now. The idea first came to us about four to five months ago. I remember thinking how well HerO would fit our team, and how cool it would be to become the first foreign team with a Korean on board. Liquid has always tried to be on the forefront of bringing the Korean and Western scenes together, and this would continue that tradition. Unfortunately, things didn't unfold as quickly as I would have hoped, but the wait has undoubtedly been worth it.
For those of you unfamiliar with HerO, he does not lack credentials. He first displayed his prowess to the foreign scene in the FXO Invitational #1, where he defeated formidable opponents such as LoWeLy, SjoW, Sheth, Mana, LaLuSh and TheStC. More recently, he denied DongRaeGu a spot in the July Code-A tournament by defeating him in the final round of the qualifiers, smashed through tgun, LaLush, TheStC and Vines to earn a spot in NASL Season Two, and is now awaiting the RO32 games in Korea's WCG qualifier after a strong run through the preliminaries.
Even so, I realize that it's likely many Liquid fans will never have heard of him before. The fact of the matter is, it's extremely hard to get noticed in Korea. Not only is the level of play incredibly high, but the opportunities to break through are limited to the monthly Code-A qualifiers against every other pro-gamer hopeful in Korea. Incredible players like DongRaeGu and Puma have languished in "Code-B" for months, only to astonish viewers once they were given chances outside the GSL's unforgiving system. While he still has a long way to go and a lot to prove, I believe that HerO is a player of that caliber. As a part of Liquid, I believe that he will seize the opportunities given to him.
HerO joining Liquid is so much more than just picking up an emerging talent, or globalization for its own sake. At the heart of every Liquid recruitment is my search for people I can believe in. I chose HerO because he was the one Korean out of many who truly matched the Liquid ideal. As much as I appreciate the deals between Complexity - MVP and SK-Gaming - oGs for being very beneficial to both the players and teams involved, they just don't match my personal philosophy for Liquid. I want all my players to really feel like they are a part of something bigger, to be people who will proudly carry the responsibility of upholding the Liquid name.
During his time as an oGs member, HerO displayed all the attributes I desired. He understood the value of improving his English so that he could better communicate with Liquid players, and became good friends with Jinro and HuK during their time together at the oGs-TL house. It was their strong recommendations that brought him to my attention in the first place. Furthermore, he realized the importance of the fans outside Korea and competed in foreign tournaments while trying to engage the international community. To that end, I'm more than willing to help. In his very first competition outside Korean soil, HerO will be joining the rest of Liquid at MLG Raleigh.
As always, I would like to thank all of Liquid's fans for their continued support. It is truly appreciated. I hope that you will show Hyun Deok the same kind of passion.
Welcome, Liquid`HerO!
- Liquid`Nazgul
*I would like to thank Froz, the original Liquid`Hero, for graciously allowing HerO to take on his ID. Froz has changed his ID to Liquid`Froz.
Song "HerO" Hyun Deok has been officially transferred from oGs to Team Liquid. As you all know, oGs and Team Liquid have a close relationship where they share the same practice house. Rating HerO highly as a player, Liquid approached us about acquiring him.
After discussing the matter with HerO, we decided it would be a good opportunity for him to compete abroad and accepted the transfer. Though he has transferred to Liquid, he will remain at the oGs-TL house and practice here. We hope that HerO does well with Team Liquid.
Hyun Deok, don't forget that oGs is always with you!
Hey HerO! It's great to have you on Liquid. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your history with gaming? How did you become a professional StarCraft 2 player? A ton of people are going to want to know everything about you.
Hi, my name is Song Hyun Deok and I'm twenty-one year old Protoss player. I started playing Starcraft 1 when I was sixteen, playing just for fun at first. But as I played I realized I was the best in my school and started playing with more interest, which led to me dreaming of becoming a pro-gamer. When I was seventeen, I qualified as a semi-pro through the 21st Courage tournament [Note: The Courage league is the system through which KeSPA - the governing body of Korean Brood War - gives out semi-pro licenses]. After that, I participated in the draft and was recruited by Lecaf OZ (now Hwaseung OZ).
I particpated in the GSL Open preliminary for fun, but there I met coach Kim Seong Gon (oGs.Gon) who had been my captain and teammate during the Lecaf OZ days. Through him, I joined oGs.
What made decide to make the move from oGs to Liquid, and do you think you'll be able to adjust well? What has your relationship with Liquid been like prior to this announcement?
Well, because of the cooperation between oGs and TL, players like Jonathan and Chris have lived at our house. Personally, I thought of them very highly. They were foreigners who had come to Korea with a goal, and that seemed so cool and new to me at the time. They are the first foreigners I've gotten to know, and they're great people I've grown to love.
I heard this later, but Jonathan and Chris recommended me to Victor. To be honest, when I was first told to consider joining Liquid, the first thing that came to mind was that I would feel so sorry to Manager Park Sang Ik (oGs.TheWind) and Coach Kim Sung Gon (oGs.Gon). But both of them told me that this would be a great opportunity, and that even though it would be a loss from the team's perspective, it could be a turning point in my life. Because they thought about it from my point of view and respected my feelings about it, I was able to decide with a lighter heart.
Personally, I'm so thankful to Victor, and Jonathan and Chris who recommended me. The competition is tough in Korea where the reliance on GSL is high. It's true that I thought it was exhausting. I was really afraid that it would end up for me like Starcraft 1, where I did well in practice but couldn't produce any results.
Thank you Team Liquid for giving me the opportunity to gain experience, expand my horizons, and succeed.
As a Liquid member you will start participating in many international events. Which international events do you look forward to the most, and what Liquid players are you looking forward to being reunited with?
Personally I'm really looking forward to the MLG tournaments. I'm going to compete at Raleigh very soon, and I'm giddy because it's my first international tournament. Watching MLG from afar, I've always wanted to compete. When I saw Moon Sung Won (SlayerS_MMA) earn his Code-S spot at MLG, I thought to myself "I can do it, too!"
Also, the response from the fans overseas is huge compared Korea. I've always been envious of that environment as an observer, and I'd like to play for once, drawing strength from those kind of fans.
I'd like to meet all the Liquid members, but if I had to pick one, I'd say Hayder. We had a lot of fun together, and he taught me a lot of English. Whenever I didn't know something he'd just laugh and help me out. I was sad when he had to leave. I made fun of him a lot for not eating meat when he was in Korea, so I'd like to apologize to him here.
Like you mentioned before, you'll be playing at MLG Raleigh in a few weeks. Are you in good condition going into this tournament? Also, Korean Terrans dominated the last MLG, and more may be on the way with MVP and Bomber receiving invites to the next tournament. Do you think you can beat those kind of players?
My condition's alright, and I'll do my best to prepare. MVP and Bomber are good players, but I think they're players I'm capable of beating. I'm not too worried.
You already have a fan club on Team Liquid, which you've posted in. How closely do you follow the foreign community? Do you read Team Liquid very often? Also, we hear that your English is quite good. Can we look forward to you speaking in English at foreign tournaments, like MC and DongRaeGu?
I visit TeamLiquid pretty often, as for my English... I'll try harder to get better. Honestly, I was never one for studying, but I liked English. I'd like to use English at foreign tournaments like MC or DongRaeGu, but I'm not confident enough yet, so I need to try harder.
You are now a Liquid` member, but you are going to keep living at the oGs-TL house, practicing and living with the same people. Will joining Liquid` make for any changes in your everyday life, or will things pretty much stay the same?
I don't think it's going to affect my everyday life. The oGs players and coaches think of oGs and TL as one team because of our cooperation. Since I'm Korean, I don't think it will change too much.
Who are you closest to in the oGs-TL house and who are your usual practice partners? Who do you think is a good player who hasn't gotten much exposure?
I'm friends with everyone, but if I had to pick I'd say MC and Inca who I've learned a lot from. I practice a lot with oGsJ (aka Luvsic), oGsJookto, and oGsTheStC. I think oGsJ is underated.
How about some personal questions? What's your favorite food?
For my favorite food, it's actually a problem because I like to eat everything. I guess it would be whole roasted chicken? I like poultry a lot.
Movies? Anything you've seen lately that was interesting?
I really love watching movies, I like them all regardless of their genre.
Recently, we were all watching Scream 4 together, and after the movie I started feeling mischievious. So I hid and waited for TheStC to give him a scare with some stabbing motions, which really, really scared him. After that, people at the house teased me a lot.
Okay, to wrap up, say something to your foreign fans!
That's pretty difficult...
[At this point, the interviewer talked about "special tektics", White-Ra, MC, and the fact that having imperfect English can often be a good thing.]
"Hellow everyone i'm always thanks for fan if not have fan ,, maybe i'm not here Always thanks and expect me i will give you grace ??"
Is that okay?
Perfect.
Okay, thank you.
Thanks for the interview!
T_T
Make sure to catch Liquid`HerO's first appearance as a Liquid player at Tuesday, Aug 16 2:00am GMT (GMT+00:00), as Team Liquid takes on Complexity in the Gosu Coaching Premiere League!
Originally I intended the announcement to be a fun game where someone could win a Liquid shirt but as it turns out, it took on a life of its own. Currently the TL.net thread stands at ~1600 posts and the Reddit thread has 982. Unfortunately, as it turns out, not a single person guessed what the announcement was.
It is obvious that he is a deserving winner of our shirt. I apologise for overhyping the event, that was not my intention at all, but what I can say is this: it is the first item of a chain of news items.
so this was quite unexpected.. obviously can tell since no one guessed the correct answer lol i've always thought HerO was a great player (i have him on my gstl team), i hope he can finally shine through Liquid

Not what I was expecting, besides didn't DongRaeGu crush him recently in the GSTL?
But the more Koreans at MLG the merrier, StarCraft 2 is becoming increasingly global and I'm glad TeamLiquid are also pushing this, albeit later than the other teams.
Originally posted by Liquid`Hero: "Hellow everyone i'm always thanks for fan if not have fan ,, maybe i'm not here Always thanks and expect me i will give you grace ??"
YEAHHHH HERO!! I really think that he deserves to have his time to shine and I'm ecstatic that Liquid has opened the doors for him. He has so much potential from what games I've seen from him. Grats to Hero and TL! ^^
Wow so shortly after you recruited sheth into your team, I really didn't expect it. I hope he can bring us some fun games and comes to some foreign events!
Wow, that's awesome, can't wait for MLG. Eventhough I have to admit that I'm a little bit disappointed that it's not a Terran. But of the non-Terrans HerO is definitly surpassing all expectations.
Must admit I'm one of those who doesn't know HerO too well, though I'll definately be checking out the replay pack tonight to see what he's capable of ^^
Congrats to both HerO and TL as a whole though. Great news to see the team expanding to become more competitive. I shall look forward to seeing his debut, and then his participation at Raleigh

Not at all. Without a little hype announcements can get lost in a sea of mediocrity.
I can't believe people call him Bisu. He is very good, but overrating him like that is just begging for disappointment. Definitely a nice pick up though. Since he was an OGS before I wouldn't imagine much changes besides him flying to foreign events.

calling him Bisu because of his looks... what are you smoking
Alright, great news for TL! And I don't think Heosat overhyped this at all, it's big news.
EDIT: He does look a bit like Jaedong. Too bad he's not a Zerg player though. There is going to be some fierce competition for the title of Best Protoss on TeamLiquid.

I hope he actually gets results... because Liquid hasn't been doing well in anything lately. Why the switch from OGS to TL? OGS has far more members and superior to practice with
Edit: Doesn't really say WHY he switched in the interview... was it for international opportunities?

This deal seems great! I'm excited to see how HerO does at MLG Raleigh and feel as though Liquid is continuing to be the vanguard of the foreigner SC2 scene by continuing the merge of east and west. Keep up the good work, Nazgul!

You mean besides Ret winning the Blizzcon Qualifier and HuK being the only foreigner to actually compete with the koreans? HuK has one bad tourny and suddenly TL hasn't done anything? Some people are just... weird....
YESSSSSS sooooo awesome, been routing for oGsHero for so long, now that he has joined team liquid makes it all the much better. Looking forward to seeing lots more of his play in foreign tournaments.

Dreamhack summer 2011 Huk won, the 2011EU blizzard Invitational ret won, they have been doing well, every team has a slump but i am sure liquid will gett back to winning soon , herO will still be in the oGs-TL house like jinro and huk, so nothing will change.
Wow...in SC1 foreigners had their few tournaments to shine in, but now with all the foreigner teams picking up koreans, its like the best bet for a foreigner to win a tournament is now to signup for Go4SC2 #42342 or Zotac cup.
While its always cool to watch the very best, I do feel sorry over all the foreigners who are slowly getting pushed out of the scene.
Still happy for Liquid, but looking at the broader picture, alot of these foreigners and their organisations may be gone in a few years simply because they missed to hop on the korean-train.
This is such great news for Tl and the western E-sports Scene, this made my day! i hope HerO gets a code S spot in MLG'relaigh.as usual Liquid WHAITING!

They said that you had to be specific in your guesses. "Liquid signs a Korean" isn't nearly specific enough, and since nobody guessed "Liquid acquires oGs.Hero" they are free to give their shirt to whomever they feel deserved it the most. It was a really entertaining post, so I definitely agree with the decision. There's no need to have this discussion.

Use your brain... He switched so he could compete in foreign tournaments. This switch doesn't mean much else for him, he will still live and practice with the same people.

He most likely would switch due to the foreign opportunities being on TL offers him and the closeness to his old team. I doubt he is going to experience that much of a change in terms of practice though, considering he is still staying at the oGs-TL house.
And Liquid hasn't been doing that bad as of recent, with Ret winning the Blizz invitational and Huk dominating over the past few months.
thats great news. No offense, but I think it's hilarious not being capable of speaking English at tournaments. I mean English is his second language, but everyone speals English today. I guess it's the school system in Korea which can't be of high standard?? But again it's cool he wants to improve in that field too. Some tipps which helped me a lot: Go watch a lot of movies to improve conversation and read books to get used to more formal English. This alleviates the learning process, because it's rather fun instead of work (also called passive learning).

I hope Hero will start going crazy, I've watched few games of him in the past and they were kinda non memorable.

Dude, English isn't that needed in Asia. It's more ridiculous how the English education is pretty much the same in France or Spain as in Korea; I never thought I'd meet a young person in central Europe who's incapable of understanding English, but in France they apparently exist.
Nooooooooooooooooo!!! Now my "Liquid`Mac" signed macbook pro no longer contains the signatures of all TL members (minus Nazgul, who's the manager so he doesn't count <3...and now Hero )
Well...here's to hoping I see him at a future event in my area.

I'm not sure what you mean. He's part of TL now and as TL has a cooperation goin with oGs he will still stay at the oGs house just like HuK and Jinro.
But now I have another question, is HerO allowed to play for oGs in the GSTL? Afaik the mercenarie rule is only for foreigners?
oGs participates in the GSTL as oGs-TL, so TL players can play for the team in the matches. HuK has won some games for them already.
Welcome to Team Liquid, HerO! Hope everything goes well.
Last time I checked they played as oGs and HuK was allowed to play due to the afformentioned mercenarie rule. Maybe some TL offecial can shed some light into this.

Also, I don't care if they speak in terrible, halting english. The fact that they try gives them major brownie points.

Seriously? Then which team did good? Because there are only so many tournaments each month. I guess IM was really doing bad than as they only won one MLG and one GSL in the last months... -_-
PS: Also forgot HuK was best foreigner at last MLG.
Would have been cooler if he still was in the GSL, so we would have had 3 Liquid players this season to start with. Hopefully he can get Code A soon. Nice pick, even though Liquid is lacking Teran performance atm I personally love to see another Brotoss joining the team.
I was very impressed when he took out DRG in Code A, but haven't seen him so much after that. Will be cool to see him play at MLG, hope we get to see his PvT. Since he was pretty confidient against MMA/Bomber ^^
I was expecting a player signing, but not this. Pleasantly surprised! After reading his interview I can already see me cheering for him! HerO FIGHTIIIING!
This is really great news, I am loving the expansion of Liquid... Sheth and Hero are both totally deserving guys. This will really strengthen the team internationally.

I've been an observer of e-sports for a long time and I can say without second thought that Teamliquid is the best thing to have ever touched e-sports. Liquid's approach and treatment of their players is so refreshing. love their team philosophies and culture.

See? THAT'S how you make a team trade. You do it like this - professionally and not rushed. When everyone has communicated fully and has been satisfied sufficiently, the trade goes so smoothly, and everyone supports it. Great work

With all the signings and collaboration of/with Koreans by foreign teams happening lately it was kinda obvious TL would sign an oGs player
So one more Protoss player for me to cheer for - Protoss fighting (back)!
@Liquid'HerO: To improve your English the most just watch movies/TV series in English with subtitles (to catch "how" it's done), read some books (to catch on correct grammar) and talk to people in English even if YOU think your English sucks (most of the time it won't and it's just your imagination) - every native speaker will apprecciate your effort on trying. Now go and kick some serious ass!

I don't think you've got anything to apologize for. As you said, the thread quickly spiralled out of control, and you didn't overhype anything. It's us the community that went apeshit with the theories =) I think we all enjoyed theorycrafting about the announcement almost as much as looking forward to you guys revealing it! It just shows that this community is really passionate about TL and it's events and always wants more of them.
Sick pickup by Liquid yet again. I have a good feeling he will do well at Raleigh.
And on a side note, I love how everyone's saying he looks like Bisu, but is it just me or does he have like 'Jaedong' eyes with like 'Bisu' hair? I can see that death glare already xDD
On August 10 2011 22:07 Kipsate wrote: uhm question, is Hero still a part of ogs like ogstl(as in like Huk?).
You realize the team logo for GSTL is the liquid horse + the oGs name right?
HAHAHA. I like him already just based on TheStC story^^ Gotta say I don't see a huge practical difference between this and other Korean player deals though. gl HerO.
I was kinda hoping it was froz coming back when i saw the title. One of my alltime favorite Terrans there^^
Great addition! HerO is one of the players with highest potential yet to be revealed. Hope he finds his place and feels well as part of TL and develops his ability to the fullest as a Liquid member.

what? Huk just won 2 tourneys and ret just won the blizzard thing.... I would say that is quite the opposite of lacking results. As for hero he is not lacking either, he qualified for season 2 of nasl which is really hard. ~~~~Hero Fighting~~~~

Great news and another solid diplomatic acquisition! Here is hoping Sheth and Hero make a big splash in the scene. Man he looks really handsome in that picture.
God HerO says, "If I do not rid you of the trouble, I will give you grace for victory over it". Grace: Simple elegance or refinement of movement. With his broken English he has foretold the end of his nervous performance!
"...and I'd like to play for once, drawing strength from those kind of fans. " we will be your pillar HerO! welcome!
Ahhh crap! I was so gonna post liquid recruits ogshero (I had a feeling it would be him if it was anyone) But I decided the hedge my bets instead by saying liquid recruits korean player from ogs...
LOL at him hiding and jumping out and scaring stc after watching scream. Really scared him?! Super cool for hero, can't wait to see him in action in Raleigh.
I'm hoping Hero can improve his win rate and live up to the hype. He really seems to have nerve issues from his previous efforts. He looks pretty boss in a liquid jersey though
YESSS!!! i love hero, i hope i get to see more of his games and get a whole lot of his replays now that hes in liquid, so hard to get reps of koreans u like when they dont play well in/ outside GSL
Even the koreans saying that Hayder is a funny guy! He needs to open up at events so we can see if they're all trolling us! Nice pick Nazgul! HerO seems like a good choice as joining a foreign team can be quite difficult when you don't know any of your new teammates and maybe even have to leave Korea. For HerO it's an easy transfer. He knows many of Team Liquid already and can stay where he's used to. Also with the friendship between OGs and TL there are no problems concerning the management and it went smooth and friendly. I hope he really wants to learn english to a point where he can speak it at least semi-fluently and has the personality that fits the brotherly atmosphere that comes along when liquid players meet up at MLG or elsewhere (see Huk wrestling Nazgul). Also I've just seen the OGsTL logo for the first time and damn that looks nice! + Show Spoiler +
Good luck Liquid`Hero!! I will watch out and cheer for you! Welcome to the Liquid`Family!
woo TL! Awesome news to hear! HerO has always impressed me with the play I've seen(though it really hasn't been much), I look forward to seeing more from him now that he's with TL! :D

Oh no, I wanted to watch HerO in Teamleague and so I bought a flightticket to Korea some days ago. And now you're telling me, you're sending him to mlg!!! (The same week... )
I hope I can still cancel the flight!
Beside from that. I'm really happy. HerO is not only a very good player but his games are also very entertaining to watch (even my 65 year old mother is a Fan of him, and that's surely not for his looks as she knows only about his games but not how he looks like - never showed her a picture yet. I'll translate her this interview though ). He is surely a good addition to Team Liquid and Team Liquid will do good for him too as Team Liquid will provide him with the possibility to get more exposure!
"I am not a hero. I am a mere defender of the office. You know who's a real hero? Hiro, from Heroes. That's a hero... Also, Bono... [and HerO from Team Liquid]."
This is awesome another great pick up for Liquid! Congrats to both Liquid and HerO I'm looking forward to seeing him dominate at MLG Raleigh and hopefully I'll be able to get his autograph as well ^^ I'll also be snagging some of those games from the replay pack and throwing them up on my YouTube channel tonight
Joining a foreign team will mean a hefty lifestyle switch for HerO though. He'll have change his T-shirt and push his bed maybe three feet across the room to fit in with the Teamliquid players. I hope it's not too much culture shock for him!
I've wondered this for a while. Why hasn't oGs and Tl merged already? The 2 teams are one in everything but the name (and they've even got the name down now, with oGs-TL going about)
On August 11 2011 00:10 FIRETRUCK wrote: Who gives a retarded child's shit?
Starcraft fans do. This is site for fans of high level Starcraft, among other things. We're interested in who plays for what team, and what they get up to Starcraftwise. Teamliquid in particular, of course - the name of the site is a clue. If you're not interested, you probably don't belong here, and if you feel the need to come up with stuff like that, you definitely don't.
This is awesome! I also really like that he was already friendly with a lot of the Liquid guys (Johnathan, Chris, and Hayder from what I can tell), and it makes the pickup have a lot more sense since Liquid prides itself on being like a family!

hopefully u give a shirt to the first person in that thread who said that TL was gonna sign a korean. epic post is good but that's not what the game was
This is exciting. For one as me that havent really much focus on the korean players at all except the handfull of really big players Im glad as it will broaden my view and mind GL to both HerO and TL!
Next related announcement -- Sase signs with oGs to add more Swedish to the oGs house in Korea? He said in yesterday's interview he's there in Korea for good...
Sweet pick-up! TL is doing fantastic lately. I think it would be cool if they picked up another Terran next, since Jinro's been slumping and TLO is still recovering from the wrist.
EG signs PuMa- moths of deilberation, behind-the-back signing, betrayed coach, lots of money for the player,,,
TL signs HerO- HerO really wants to go, the coaches encourage him to see the world, HerO is best friends with everybody, and there is sunshine lollipops and rainbows all around.

Back in the first versions of GSTL they ruled we couldnt but now we can o.o I duno if its because of the mercenary rules or not, my point was more that regardless of why it is, it is very much one team when it comes to this competition.
Was hoping for Liquid'Sase but this is literally the second best thing! Hero fighting! Was so sad when he got knocked out of Code A qualifiers last time but at least now we get to see him at MLGs!

For a long time, it was primarily community site, but the progaming team was revived with SC2

I'm guessing that the winner of the shirt would have had to specifically guess Hero? Since I think there was a bunch that mentioned TL acquiring a Korean player.
Anywho, awesome job TL! Its amazing the talent that is hidden in the Korean Code B and below. Welcome to TL Hero! GLHF!!

My mom's cool. But she doesn't play SC II. Only watching. If she would play, she would play in grandmother league!
EDIT: Damn, I forgot that I haven't got a biometric passport!
Awesome news! HerO is such a promising player, I'm sure he will do great in foreign events such as MLG. Also thanks for the replay pack, I look forward to learning a lot from his style.
This is so cool. Obviously I'd rather see a Protoss get picked up by Liquid, because that's my race, but this is awesome to see such a good player getting exposure. GL TLAF`Liquid and GL HerO!
While I, as everyone else, find this to be an excellent pickup, I don't think this was worthy of the hype it generated, because Hero was already part of oGs. People have been making jokes about him having to push his bed a few feet down the hall and get used to the "new environment," but I mean what is the actual significance of this? Why was there more mystery hype for this than when Huk or Sheth were picked up?
Congratulations Liquid and congratulations Her0. Awesome news for both parties but Nazgul, please sign another Terran. How are Jinro and TLO expected to have a chance in the 3 way tag team match between teams of each of Liquid's races. We all know that that is the next in the string of announcements and I don't think 2v3v3 is fair. And if TLO race switches again (34% chance) Jinro will be alone.
definitely the right way to announce this :-) thewind's endorsement in the same post really makes all the difference for me, and i'm glad to see oGs and TL still being super close :D
Woot! Koreans reppin Liquid, das right. Nice to have a Korean signing by a foreign team without all the drama and controversy. TL shows the rest of the scene how to do things!
Great pick up cant wait to see him play ive heard he was always one of those great players we just never got to see, so can't wait to see what he can do
mini bisu!? awesome! :D i was thinking(hoping)YellOw but im too much of a yellow fanboy :p good luck for everything HerO. DO US PROUD! :D and by that i mean, just act like every other awesomely kind TL player and play your heart out
disappointing, after the hype thread i expected a bit more then an un-accomplished korean joining. Good luck and all i guess, but it s not really exciting news + im a bit sad Liquid became another team with korean on his roaster
I think this is great news, generally I have felt a bit negative about the Korean-Foreign team agreements so far because I feel that those teams will just have one player far beyond the ability of the rest of the team but with TL it's different. They already have GSL competitors and great diversity in the team so it doesn't seem like it will be foreigners plus a korean but just a good mash of great players. Also, yay a protoss!
Lol at all of the Bisu comments, I think he has hair like Huk personally, just a bit lighter.

Actually all of Team Liquid are Korean as they have all played a game of StarCraft in Korea before. Tyler might be the exception as he's only played SC1 in Korea.
Props to NAZGUL and THEWIND for making it happen Hero fighting! And yeah he kinda looks like bisu so I guess yesterday's trolling attempts were not that far-fetched
Isn't this the second Liquid`Hero on the TL roster, I think that there's been one before this one... yeah, yeah it was Froz that joined liquid under the id Liquid`Hero.
Im really glad to hear about this. Considering all the drama going on with some other teams, players being signed, etc etc its exceptionally nice to hear about this being done with class and zero drama between Liquid and oGs.
Welcome aboard Hero (herro ^^) and I will be sure to cheer for you when I see you at the next MLG!!
Edit: I ask that more TL members consider using Google translator to talk to Korean pro-gamers. Many are attempting to reply to foreigners in English and I think we should attempt to learn, if not translate into, Korean. Thank you.
Cool, I always love new members, especially a Korean. He kinda looks like me too lolool. But I think I won the t-shirt because i said they recruited and old bw hero!
i'm kinda disappointed, to be frank. Not in the announcement in and of itself, don't get me wrong. i'm disappointed in the fact that TL and oGs might as well just go ahead and merge like FXO and fOU. They're basically one team as it is. You're not *really* acquiring anything. You can say "oGs and TL are just partners, we're not that close." And maybe you're not, i don't know all of the specifics, but in my mind i've already equated TL and oGs as basically the same team.
That gained me a ton of respect for oGs's management. It really shows that they truly care more about their players than just making their team as strong as possible. Good luck to HerO, oGs, and Liquid!
Gratz to HerO, and ice move by Liquid. It's nice to see him part on such good terms with the oGs staff, and I wish all of them the best of luck in the future!
Haha liquid picks up the most handsome starcraft 2 player in korea (no homo)
Awesome! I always thought ogshero was really good, he got pretty unlucky in his laslt run in code a, but maybe he will have a chance to get a code s spot at raleigh , i think he can do it.
I think this is a very good move for liquid, it allows them to aquire a korean player without having to change his practice environment at all , wich is what has made him a great player in the first place.
Out of all of the Korean to foreigner deals so far, this one is the most ideal from the players and the teams perspective IMO.
For instance compared to puma's EG deal, where he joined a team where NO ONE else is in korea, and although he may still have practice partners he doesnt have a practice house, teammates or a coach anymore, and that really sucks, i could see his skill declining pretty rapidly in the months to come. Also he doesnt even get to compete in the teamleague anymore, wich was where he was shining and showing great games before, now he has literally no exposure until he goes to foreign events. And even then i doubt he will beable to keep up with koreans who live in teamhouses and keep up with the rigorous practice schedule.
Goodluck to Liquid Hero, cant wait to see him abroad!
i thought it was gonna be MC because of his activities in international events so more reason to get him. Anyways GL Hero, hope to see you in MLG and stuff
I've seen some of HerO's matches before, he is pretty good! I remember being pro-hero, so I'm glad he is on a team where he is more likely to get face time
This is awesome. With the addition of Hero and Sheth, and the way that Hayder is playing as well as Huk, and Jinro. And the newest taste of blood for Tyler at MLG (which I think will motivate him into practicing at lot more, along with the addition of new players and new ideas). I think Liquid will swiftly make a rise to the peak of foreign preformance, if not compete with Korea.
I play zerg and HerO is the only protoss I have a mancrush on <3 from the time I saw him play a beautiful game against TheSTC on some tournament, I've been a fan since then. So good for him :D
He kinda looks like jaedong lol. But I've heard about him and I cannot wait to see more of this guy and am glad he left on good terms with his team and is still practicing in the OGS-TL house.

Great news!! Especially if he's been scouted by TL a while ago. Means a lot in terms of interest towards the kid. Blizzard Qualifier is NOTHING compared to the Korean scene. Did you see Code A today? Naniwa and Thorzain got ROLLED hard. HuK is the only one on Liquid that is actually performing to par. I can definitely see ogsHero performing as well/better than Huk though, but the rest of TL, he will probably roll them hard.

You mean besides Ret winning the Blizzcon Qualifier and HuK being the only foreigner to actually compete with the koreans? HuK has one bad tourny and suddenly TL hasn't done anything? Some people are just... weird....
Edit: He still has the same practice partners...

Is this the future of ESPORTS? Koreans parading around the world and winning every single tournament?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Why do you say it like that ? Koreans aren't the problem.
If Foreigners would play enough, and actually care - they woul've been as good as Koreans are.
There is no excuse.
Koreans train harder - They are better.
It's that Simple.
Exactly. Let's be honest, besides a handful of foreign players, the majority are pretty lazy compared to the Korean players and it shows in their sloppy gameplay.

I wouldn't say ThorZain got rolled, he had 3 very close games one of which he actually won. Naniwa may have been beaten pretty badly but he played arguably one of the best players in the Code A brackets and will only improve, which is why he is in Korea in the first place. I look forward to seeing how he does in a month or so.
huge love ot oGs and Hero <3 .... he is our hero now to...so glad to hear/read this, team liquid signing so much good players realy keeps me happy and and a huge fan ! Liquid'HerO fighting

Great deal for oGs, they get to keep using HerO in GSTL and as a practice partner and no longer have to pay him.
Great deal for Liquid too, I feel like more and more foreigner teams are going to recruit Koreans in an attempt to copy their practice styles and catch up.
Sick signing for TL. They're really powering at the moment with Sheth joining and Ret doing so well in recent tournaments. This is off the back of GosuHuk's amazing European tour as well. Great news for the team.
It is very exciting to see TL expanding! I hope the whole team continues to grow and maintain the strong influence they have over the community. TL is a great thing, and I hope HerO understands that and helps to maintain that. c: c: c:
Amazing news! Liquid continuing to be a top notch team. No drama, no community outrage, just picking up solid players through normal channels, and working to make themselves everyone's "home" team. Liquid Fighting!!!!
Was more excited when I thought FroZ was coming back. Say what you will, I maintain he had the most raw skill out of any foreign player to touch a copy of BW.
This is amazing news! Congratulations to HerO and to TeamLiquid! I can't wait to see him at MLG and other events. Here's to more Foreigner/Korean integration!
What does oGs get out of the deal other than losing a member? Team Liquid will skyrocket Hero's foreign fame and it will be a huge boost for TL as well... but oGs I dont see anygain?

They don't need to gain anything, they are looking out for the best interest of the player more than anything. Its pretty admirable of them if nothing else.
Edit: They don't really lose a member either, he will still live in the same house with them, practice with them and be able to participate in the GSTL with them.

it's almost as if nothing happened.
Hero still stays in the same location (ogs/TL house in Korea), still practices with the same people
the only difference is that he's wearing a different uniform.
oh well. you got to do what you got to do, I guess.
He also gets to fly to foreign tournaments a lot more often. And with this many Liquid players having experience staying in Korea, there's a lot of potential for them to fight as a standalone team in the GSTL soon (unless they've said something otherwise already).
Hero looked pretty good in GSTL. Now more and more koreans switching to Foreign teams so hopefully this will increase skill levels in Foreign teams. Last GSL code A matches that featured 4 swedes were pretty embarrassing to watch in my opinion.

Yeah, and plus he gets a huge bump to his fame. HerO was one of those players that people knows is really good (like theStC) but would be hard to name as being a damn good player. Probably because of no GSL fame yet.
Congrats to Hero and TL - another new recruit is always exciting. The best part is going to see Hero in more foreign events. I wander if he will keep GSL on his agenda.
I am looking forward to seeing his face at MLG Raleigh =D it's about time TL started boosting their roster. All that remains now is - more Bo9 team leagues please.
1) Thank you for the kpop star link. xD 2) Hero's Special tactics were spot on, and the interviewer did a great job to make that analogy about talking to an audience in another language.
This whole interview and news was great to read, and it makes me happy Fighting. d:- D
An Excellent revelation, really good to see the Liquid team growing stronger every day. Good luck to hero and TL growing their skills and bonds, best of luck to all of them for the future.

Instead of LOLing you should try reading the thread where it explains this has been in the works for 4-5 months.

I don't see how that has anything to with what I said??? Your point is TL isn't performing in anything lately because there are Koreans who are better?

PP vs XX is the worse 2v2 match-up I feel but maybe they could teach me some tricks :D

are u just joking or there will be 2v2 in gstl?;D

I'm not allowed to remark on recent trends regardless of when they were set into motion?

You can hardly call it "joining the bandwagon" when TL set it in motion before the bandwagon began...
Wow, didn't catch the news until it was mentioned on live on three (or was it inside the game?!)... I think it's awesome to see so many collaborations between teams and international players. Wish you and Hero the best of luck in the future.

Agreed. Another thing to note is that Liquid didn't try to swoop in and pick him up after he'd already made his breakthrough, such as Puma did in the NASL.
seriously awesome. mostly cause i thought he was a terran for awhile. yay, a protoss... a baller protoss. Wish ya luck hero

This recruitment will be awesome for teamliquid!:D had no idea Hero was the one who were coming! But thought some one of the oGs Members would eventually get transfered to tl
The "About TL" page should probably be updated since it doesn't mention Hero at all. Also welcome! I've been enjoying Hero's stream for the past couple of days, good stuff. Gotta love more Toss players
