And to the question, I have ever actual been lucky enough to try any of them but from what I have observed LT is kind of a schematic fir standard maps. But I find Kulas Ravine as the more entertaining watch as spectator at least, due to the easy expand, and the possiblity to try out heterodox builds.

Kulas Ravine is awesome as well! Actually every 1v1 map is good so it's really a tough call;p I like Desert Oasis slightly less, just because so many people opt for all-ins there and i remember only 1 fun game i played there

I love how close steppes of war starting positions are. it makes timing pushes really sexy but the well defended natural means you can get to the juicy midgames too ^_^

Metalopolis and Scrap Station - don't like dark lighting palette (daylight Metalopolis would be good). Don't like KR palette too (KR from alpha battle report looked much better IMO). So... Lost Temple.

As for blistering sands I'm guessing everyone that voted for that is a zerg player lol. I voted for metalopolis. Quality map, well balanced, good placement, no backdoors.

Lost temple is great too, the way that the dynamic changes completely depending on whether you are front to front, back to back, or cross map with your opponent. It plays like three different maps depending on how you get placed, plus you have cliffs overlooking the expos, raised areas in the middle, etc. I don't understand how any one likes Desert Oasis or Blistering Sands. Horrible, horrible maps.

Btw, I wonder whether SC2 in general would be better without towers, they look cool at first but then it seems like they often shut down all sorts of deceptive tactics that would be otherwise viable. They're analogous to glass walls in FPS games -- at first you add a few so that people can look through, see where the enemy is, and make predictions about where they'll go, but if there's too much glass/visbility then you start to cripple a player's ability to trick/outmaneuver the opponent.

I dont really like most of the new maps, they are pretty much forcing people into certain playstyles too much (close 2 player maps for quick games on the one hand and maps with ridiculous walking distance to force a macro game on the other hand). Instead of those obvious "hey we want to do this type of map" maps there should have been more subtle maps which allow for more variety in play imo. same exact vote and reason, although the Ravine does seem pretty good so it was close between the Ravine and LT but LT is just soooo classic and has a different game with different starting positions so its REALLY cool.

Only map where I'll load up vs the ai just to check out all the adverts and stuff such as the iPistol and NUKE NOODLES. Toss in the statues of Arcturis and I am sold. By far my most beloved map. I'd love to see a city type map in the day time however.

However, I think it is a bit terran sided as well. Yeah, as far as the map goes, those cliffs right along your mineral line at the natural really seem to be quite a bit terran favouring. With just a few rines/vikings and a tank you are totally screwed as zerg. Since you don't get vision when you get attacked, you have to sit there like a bitch and take it while terran comfortably lift-expands to his high ground expo. If every terran would take advantage of this, I'd be pretty fucked. Same applies for LT, but at least marines and vikings can't kill your mineral lines off, so terran gotta get a tank out, so its a little bit better for Z.

I am suprised at the statements that it is easy to take an expansion on Kulas Ravine, though. It is so easy to abuse the fact that there are two ways into your natural. That said, I do tend to wall off one of them with pylons for that reason. While I agree that Desert Oasis is the worst map out of the 1v1 mappool, I do not think everything about it is bad. Infact, since the ground distance is so significantly longer then the air distance, I find that it really encourages unorthodox play. Like GTR, though, I am waiting for Twisted Peak to be included. While it received a lot of criticisms when it was originally unveiled, I think that map has a lot of potential. But we will have to see how it does in practice first.

VOTE: blistering sands Because there's nothing more fun than defending a "choke" for your bases that leaves you on low ground with no funnel into your units and miles out of walking distance if you get dropped.

I like all the maps so far because I really feel that I have to change up my playstyle a bit depending on the map which adds another dimension aside from the race matchup. About the only map I really hate is the 2v2 only one (can't recall it this late at night and dont feel like looking it up) that encourages pure turtling...*yawn* boring as heck mass unit gameplay.

However, I voted Metalopolis. The double, wide entrances to the natural almost makes me take my vote away, but there is sufficient high ground from your base and from the "third natural" that as Terran I can generally take advantage of that to make the lack of walling not matter. The placement of the high-yields I absolutely love and the overall structure of the map leaves a little to be desired for maneuvering in the middle, but the amount of high ground and the effect it has more than satiates me and the (imo) balanced support for air/drops brings the whole thing together. Kulas Ravine is a really close second as I like the inclusion of the rock natural/second natural and the relative insecurity of the regular natural (at least with the state of the current meta-game where one-basing for a bit is more viable than in Brood War). The usage of rocks overall on that map is just great. My only real issue with the map is that mains feel a bit overly secure and the I feel like the positional imbalances with Terran walling on that map are second only to Blistering Sands. Quick shout-out to Scrap Station as it makes for very interesting and different games courtesy of the close "crow flies" base distances, although I can't in good faith vote for it with the island base generally being so Terran-favored, but otherwise it's a really interesting experiment unlike Desert Oasis.

Also this seems like a decent place to ask, why isn't shakura plateau in the 1v1 pool? It seems like another solid 1v1 map and it could have some interesting games based on whether you spawn cross map or on the same side etc.

- is relatively small, - does NOT favour super fast ground rushes, (which are boring to watch IMO) - emphasizes flexible playing style (island expos, open natural expos, three central Xel'Naga towers). You HAVE TO scout your enemy or get surprised and taken out by a switch to air ... which many "fast action aggressive players" like to ignore.

I've been wondering how this map would play as a 1v1 map. No changes, just 1v1, and of course players can't spawn next to each other. Turtling would be almost certain but there's still more expo's outside of the main base area. I think it would cater to some HEAVY macro oriented play. I personally haven't seen very much 200/200 3/3/3 armies colliding. Just makes me curious. And with the choke remaining so large, anyone who does go for the early expos could still be very vulnerable to harassment. Lost temple was so imba in sc1 but in sc2, it's actually a pretty decent map, securing itself the top spot.
