The question is the following:
If Blizzard is controlling the LANs through the use of a "special edition" SC2 that frees up LAN, they will also be controlling the map pool for these competitions. How will user-generated melee maps become part of this pool when they will certainly not become part of the ranked map pool until Blizzard officially adopts them?
We know that all content generated through the SC2 engine is property of Blizzard, but even if a user-generate map becomes quite popular, what says Blizzard is going to allow it into a tournament pool? Secondly, why is a player going to practice a map that is not yet officially adopted by blizzard?
All this seems like an uphill battle, even for the most talented map makers out there.
Will Blizzard hold a user-generated Melee map competition?
Thoughts...
*oh and btw my map pack is available below * ... not.

oh that was juicy, i luv u;
"What can be confirmed is that Blizzard is that there will be a post-launch patch that will address tournament functionality soon after release. This patch will have features that address the needs of location-based professional tournaments."
Didnt blizz hold user-generated map contests for W3?

probably the same way they did for the sc1 and w3 ladder
by not implementing anything.
hopefully they do do something, but I really really doubt it

D: If no user created maps r going to b used in tournaments... wtf that just absolutely sucks...

Well, how did ICCup get their maps launched? They use pretty much only custom maps, they all came from somewhere.
I'd love to see a tournament where for example, you get to your ace match, or even the 3rd game in a best of 3, and a custom map is used. Throw the players off a little bit, get the map some publicity. Have a different custom match for each round of the tournament. Get to the grand finale and have custom maps for the championship in order of popularity from a TL poll.
Maybe this is my pet project, once we have a game, or at least beta to work with again.

Well its not that "absurd". Did the SC1 ladder map rotation include user generated content?
A lot of this has to do with the infunctionality of the custom game creation/join tool. Players are not going to practice a map that is not going to be in tournaments soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo that means that tournaments will be what make user-generated content popular... however that would take them introducing a map not normally played.

They will make ability to everyone of us can create tournament with user specific maps. So one day we will se dota like tournamets without problem.

The WC3 ladder map rotation did include user generated content.
After a while, SC2's ladder map rotation will as well.

Since Blistering Sands seemed to be the most popular map at the time when the beta was up, somebody should make a map like it with long main-main distances, much closer nat-nat distances, third and fourth bases hard to hold onto, gold guarded with DRs, watchtowers, and a really good center part of the map.
That would ensure a user created map in a tournament. People need to make maps like BS and LT - those r the best ones in the beta popularity wise for 1v1 melee (LT being the most popular 4 spawn 1v1 map)

i hope blizz realizes that user tournaments are extremely important and supports them fully, and even allows tournament directors to "buy" ad space from blizzard and blizzard will have it in their upcoming news or something. or that people can make pay to enter prize pool tournaments and have blizzard handle the money part of it. or something like that. instead of complete control.
